Executive Summary

Goyla Block is in the Abdasa Taluka in the Kachchh District of Gujarat. It is a

N-S elongated irregular polygonal block with an area of 2.619 km2 (261.9 Ha)

having dimensions of approx. 3.6 km in length and 1.77 km in width. The

block is divided into two non-contiguous blocks (Goyla 1 in the north is 1.467 km2

area and Goyla 2 in the south is 1.151 km2 area). The Goyla block has been

part of regional exploration conducted by Commissioner of Geology and Mining

(CGM) through a Rapid Reserve Assessment Survey (RRAS) in 2009. The Goyla

Block was further explored in detail by Gujarat Mineral Development

Corporation (GMDC) in 2014-2015.

Cement grade nummulitic limestone occurs in the Go y l a B l o c k i n t he

Eocene - Oligocene Fulra Formation and Oligocene - Miocene Maniyara Fort

Formation, which are part of the Tertiary Platformal sediments of Kachchh.

Maniyara Fort Formation is exposed over most of the block, while nummulitic

limestones of Fulra Formation have been intersected only in diamond core

drillholes. Manyiara Fort Formation has shale, clay and sandy litho-units

interbanded thin limestone units. The multiple beds of greyish white to

yellowish grey micrite supported nummulitic Fulra Formation limestone define the

mineralised body. The cumulative thickness of the Fulra Formation limestones,

range from 12 m to 15 m. The cement grade limestone has a number of

partings of clay and shale. The overburden in the area, belonging mainly to

Maniyara Formation, range from 5 to 15 m most ly . However, towards the

southern part of the Goyla Block, shale and clay lithounits belonging to Khari Nadi

Formation, overlie Maniyara Fort Formation, thus contributing to development of a

thicker overburden of upto 35 m.

Goyla Block has a relief of ~23 m, with altitude ranging from ~30 m to ~53 m

above the MSL. The topography is gently rolling with a moderately elevated

landform at the southwestern and northeastern parts of the block. A

thin 1 – 3 m veneer of red brown soil overlies the Maniyara Fort Formation in

most part of the block. The block is located at about 32 kms from the Arabian

Sea coastline.

GMDC organized the topographic survey using Total Station theodolites.

DGPS surveys have been carried out to define the boundary of the block. 66

diamond core drillholes, totalling 2887 m have been drilled within the Goyla

Block in a 200m x 200 m grid. 674 half split core sample composites from 1 to 2

m length each were pulverized to 150 microns at site and sent to Inspectorate

Griffith’s (IG) wet chemical laboratory at Gandhidham in Gujarat for assay.

Element suite determined at IG's laboratory include SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, TiO2,

CaO, MgO, P2O5, Na2O, K2O, Cl, SO3, R2O3 and LoI along with specific gravity

on Dried Air basis using IS standard procedures.

Geovale Services finalized the Geological Report of the Block based on the

data provided by the CGM and GMDC. It carried out the 3D Geological

Resource modeling of the ore body, using GEOVIA SurpacTM software. The ore

body modeling process involved developing a geological database from the

drillhole database, which has been validated by classical statistics and geo-

statistics. Surpac allows the data visualization by creation of sections along

desired directions and defining ore-waste contact by manual on-screen

digitization. The two stage solid modeling of the ore body by wire-framing the

digitized cross sections and block modeling (50m x 50m x 2 m blocks) on the

basis of geostatistically derived parameters allows estimation of 3D ore volume

and block wise grades. Resources and grades have been derived using krigging

interpolation methods.

Though the specific gravity ranged from 2.2 to 2.6, a bulk density of 2.25 has

been used as advised by the CGM, Gujarat for the tonnage determination of the

limestone ore body. A cut-off grade of 37% CaO and cut of width of 1.0 m

thickness of limestone band has been applied to determine the resource volume

and grade for every Surpac block.

In Goyla, GMDC carried out General Exploration (G-2 Stage) exploration. The

Geological Resource o f l i m e s t o n e i n t h e B l o c k has been classified

based on the Minerals (Evidence of Mineral Contents) Rules, 2015 notified

by the Ministry of Mines. The total Geological Resource established in Goyla Block

is 68 Mt of Indicated Mineral Resources (UNFC – 1997, 332 category).

Table 1 summarises the grade wise Indicated Geological Resource (UNFC 332) of

the Goyla Block (also separately shown for the two sub-blocks).
