The heat of July has melted into August. A new
month has arrived despite the world being closed
down. Social distancing and wearing masks in public
have become the new normal. Rallies across the
south have cancelled leaving open spaces on our cal-
endars. The heat of the day with threats of thunder-
storms makes for shorter riding times. Of course, we
are now in hurricane season with lots of churning in
the Atlantic.
At least, the Georgia Ride In is still on the books for
October 8th through the 10th. You still have time to
make reservations at the Gateway Inn. There will be
three days of great mountain riding with lots of scen-
ery, twists and turn. Take this down time to get your
bike ready, such as, new tires, brakes, wash and wax it
to a shine.
Hope to see you all soon.
Ride Safe!

Goofy’s Adventures
Goofy’s Scorecard—2020
Hey, Chapter S, I want to go visit with someone
else this month. I regret not going with Carlos for
the summer. Miss Janel stays at home way too
much! I did get to go for ice cream on
National Ice Cream Day with the Chap-
ter. Janel kept me in the trunk on the
ride there so that I did not get too much
sun. But it was fun hanging out with every-
one that day.
One day we went antiquing and Joe found a
clock. After a cleaning he got it running. He
said it was a 365 Day clock and doesn’t need
winding except once a year. Janel showed me
how to make a paper piecing quilt block and I
hung out with my big Cousin Goofy on the
bed while Janel worked on a large puzzle of a
beach scene.
As you see, July was rather boring. I
refused to wear a mask in public so
I stayed home with the dogs. Lucky
for me, Archi the Doodle, did not shake or
try to tear my arms or legs. So, now it
is time for me to travel with anyone
else! Please!

Pro Tips for Riding in the Rain (From Rider Magazine 2/12/09)
1.Choose a rainsuit that incorporates a breathable membrane such as Gore-Tex, Reissa, Hipora or similar material.
2. Pack your rainsuit on top, not at the bottom of your saddlebag.
3. Watch windshield wipers of oncoming cars to see if it’s raining ahead.
4. Put your rain gear on before the rain starts.
5. Wear bright colors for increased visibility to others.
6. Transfer wallet, keys, and other essentials to waterproof outside pockets.
7. Your windshield should be low enough to look over, not just through.
8. Use four-way flashers in heavy rain or fog.
9. Increase your following distance, and watch for tailgaters.
10. Avoid standing water as it can hide potholes and debris.
11. Check tire pressures periodically. Underinflated tires are more likely to
hydroplane.
12. Tap rear brake in advance of normal braking distance to alert followers.
13. Gently apply brakes periodically to wipe rotors of water/mud/debris.
14. Watch out for painted lines, arrows, etc. as they can be particularly slip-
