The Lieutenant Governor assumes the same responsibilities as the Governor in the event that the Governor is temporarily disabled or incapacitated.
1) Qualifications- (same as Governor.) Must be at least 30 yrs old when taking office; a US citizen for at least 15 years; resident of the state for at least 6 years.
2) Term of office- 4 years (same as governor)
3) Election- elected by majority vote of the population. (same as governor)
4) Formal duties: none unless assigned by the Governor or legislature.
Only formal role is President of the Senate and he/she presides over sessions of the senate.
In the senate:
A. He/she can make committee appointments.
B. Assigns bills to committees
C. Recognizes members of the senate who wish to speak.
