• This region has high, rocky ridges, which are sometimes called folded mountains.

• The valleys between the ridges are great land for farming food, such as apples.

• Because this land is higher than where we live in the Piedmont, the Appalachian Plateau is colder than where we live.

• Many Cherokee Native Americans used to live in this region.

• They called it “The Enchanted Land.”

• The Blue Ridge Mountains have many canyons and gorges.

• This is Tallulah Gorge. This is a popular spot for people to visit.

• Almost 60 percent of the land in Georgia is part of the Coastal Plain. That’s more than half of our state!

• Temperatures in the Georgia Coastal Plain are warm.

• A lot of this region is marshy.

• The soil is often sandy.
