OBJECTIVE

A Gesture Controlled robot is a kind of robot which can be controlled by your hand gestures not by old buttons.

You just need to wear a small transmitting device in your hand which included an Accelerometer. This will transmit an appropriate command to the robot so that it can do whatever we want.

INTRODUCTIONA gesture is a form of non-verbal communication.

A robot is a mechanical device that can perform tasks automatically.

A Gesture Controlled robot is a kind of robot which can be controlled by your hand gestures.

This project contains two parts mainly:-

Gesture Device

Robot

Gesture Device Contains Basically Four Modules-

ACCELEROMETER

Accelerometers are available that can measure acceleration in one, two, or three orthogonal axes.

The basic principle of operation behind the accelerometer is the displacement of a small proof mass etched into the silicon surface of the integrated circuit and suspended by small beams.

COMPARATOR(LM324)An electronic circuit for comparing two electrical signals.

For the purpose to change the analog voltage into digital we use comparator which compare that analog voltage to a reference voltage and give a particular high or low voltage.

ENCODER(HT12E)An encoder is a device, circuit, transducer, software program, algorithm or person that converts information from one format or code to another, for the purposes of standardization, speed, secrecy, security, or saving space by shrinking size.

Here we are using encoder for converting parallel data into serial data.

The HT12E is an 4bit encoder which encode the input data applied on it .It is mainly used in interfacing RF and infrared circuits.

RF TransmitterThe word RF stands for Radio Frequency.

The radio frequency has ability to cross obstacles plus it provides good coverage of 30 meters.

The corresponding frequency range varies between 30 kHz & 300 GHz.

In this RF system, the digital data is represented as variations in the amplitude of carrier wave. This kind of modulation is known as Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK).

DECODER(HT12D)A decoder is a device which does the reverse operation of an encoder , undoing the encoding so that the original information can be retrieved.HT12D converts that serial data into parallel which is received by the rf receiver module. The input data is decoded when no error or unmatched codes are found.

MICROCONTROLLER 8051The Intel 8051 is an 8-bit microcontroller which means that most available operations are limited to 8 bits.

A Microcontroller ( Sometimes Abbreviated c , Uc Or MCU ) Is A Small Computer On A Single Integrated Circuit Containing A Processor Core, Memory, And Programmable Input/Output Peripherals.

We Use An 8051 Microcontroller For Our Circuit To Give Them A Decision Capability.

ACTUATOR (L293D)It is a motor driver.

The Actuator's are those devices which actually gives the movement or to do a task like motor's.

To get interface between motor and microcontroller . We use L293D motor driver IC in our circuit.

Advanced Robotic ArmAdvanced robotic arms that are designed like the human hand itself can easily controlled using hand gestures only. The ARM controller will wear the sensor gloves and the robotic arm will MIMIC the movement of the controller. Advanced robotic arms like these can perform complex and hazardous tasks with ease. Proposed utility in fields of Construction, Hazardous waste disposal, Medical science.

Virtual realityCombination of Heads Up display, Wired Gloves, Haptic-tactile sensors, Omni directional Tread mills may produce a feel of physical places during simulated environments

VR simulation may prove to be crucial for Military, LAW enforcement and Medical Surgeries.
