Every emotion is necessary and obvious… so is anger too. But, everything
depends on the depth and intensity of emotions and expressions. I read
somewhere that Anger and Danger are the same and have only one letter
difference. Anger leads to danger. The purpose of anger is to destroy, and
that is what it does. Anger weakens the body-mind and ruins
relationships. Anger not only harms your body and mind but is also a
potential threat to the safety and emotional world of others. If not
managed properly, anger leaves a deep imprint on you, your loved ones
and the ones who become the innocent victim of your anger.
Story
Once upon a time, there was a little boy, who had a very bad temper
His father gave him a bag of nails and said that every time he got angry, he had to hammer a nail into the fence. On the first day,
the boy hammered 30 nails into that fence. The boy gradually began to control his anger over the next few weeks, and the
number of nails he was hammering into the fence slowly decreased. He discovered it was easier to control his anger than to
hammer those nails into the fence. Finally, the day came when the boy stopped losing his temper at all. He told that to his father
and the father suggested that the boy should now pull out the nails every day to keep his anger under control. The days passed
and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by fence.
“You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in
anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times
you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.”
Moral of the story:
Control your anger, and don’t say things to people in the heat of the moment, that you may later regret. Some things in life, you
are unable to take back.
Here is one of the way, how you can control your anger:
The “APOX” Technique
A = Awareness that you are upset and then accepting it, and stop beating yourself with a guilt trip about your feeling of anger.
P = Pause: Count to 10, relax, short-circuit the automatic rage response by taking control of the situation.
O = Options: Think of various options you have to respond, what the consequences of each would be, then choose.
X = Express yourself in the way you have chosen.
