The SLC can give you practical advice on:

• planning and writing theses, exegeses, journal articles and conference papers

• reading critically, more efficiently, and with a purpose

• managing time and setting goals

• taking useful notes

• improving academic writing style

• improving English grammar and speaking skills.

• brushing up on referencing skills

Is this for me?

Yes… …because life as a research candidate often involves new or more advanced skills, such as:

writing the biggest thing you’ve ever written

writing a document of ‘publishable quality’

reading more, and a greater need to analyse, critique and evaluate what you read

organising and keeping track of a forest of paper (real and virtual)

managing your time when you may have many commitments

keeping it all ‘real’ and keeping your friends and family!

and more…

Research writing groups

Setting up a group:

1. Get a group together (your supervisor may be able to help)

2. Contact us

3. We will attend the first session to:

• show the resources available in our Research Writing Group kit

• help you to discuss ‘housekeeping’ issues such as how often you’ll meet

• help identify one or more potential peer-facilitators

• model the process of critiquing texts

4. We will train peer-facilitator/s

5. We are available for ‘mini-workshops’ around particular writing issues or to trouble-shoot any problems on request

6. We offer ongoing support for facilitators.
