About the Play

This is the story of what happened in the hotel room next to the hotel room where Fay Wray was whisked out into the Manhattan night by King Kong. There's always a backstory, and in this case, it’s a door-slamming farce meticulously coordinated with the events depicted in the classic 1933 movie.

There will be one 15-minute intermission.

Kong’s Night Out is produced by special arrangement with

THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY, INC. of Woodstock, IL.

Carol M. Rice (Director) is the Artistic Director of Rover Dramawerks, as well as one of the co-founders. For Rover, a few of the plays she has directed include The Cupcake Conspiracy, Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?, Written in Time, Epic Proportions, and Shakespeare in Hollywood. She also recently appeared on the Rover stage as Margo Euston in Crisis and as Stephanie Dickinson in Cactus Flower, and as M’Lynn in Steel Magnolias for the Company of Rowlett Performers. Also a playwright, Carol is proud to say that Rover produced her world premieres of Around the World in 80 Days in 2008 and Murder at the Orient Burlesque in 2011. Some of her plays are published through Next Stage Press (nextstagepress.com) and Brooklyn Publishers (brookpub.com). Despite her absolute love of theatre, her favorite roles are Wife to best friend Jason and Mom to Stephen and Scott. (And she likes baseball. GO RANGERS!) Jason Rice (Sound Designer) has been on the Rover board since it was founded and is the current Board President. He has designed sound for such shows as Towards Zero, Suite Surrender, Other People’s Money, Written in Time, Adventures in Mating, Mary’s Wedding, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), and Night Must Fall. He has received awards for acting and sound design, and he has written several custom murder mysteries and one-act plays. Jason has composed music for both live theatre and video, receiving the Aegis Award for his original composition for Matt Kaufman’s film short Willoughby. Some of the plays he has directed for Rover include Rocket Man, WRENS, More Fun Than Bowling, Premiere!, The Runner Stumbles, and War of the Worlds. As much fun as theater is, Jason’s favorite role is Daddy to Stephen and Scott. “What’s my motivation for ‘Because I said so!’?” Danielle Shirar (Daisy) is delighted to return to the Rover stage in Kong’s Night Out. She has previously been seen in Four Weddings and an Elvis, Bloody Murder, and Something’s Afoot. She would like to thank her stellar cast and crew for making this show such a fun experience, her family for their unwavering support, and her late father, Frank Shirar, without whom she would never have been inspired to tread the boards again and again. Mark Stoddard (Walter Winchell) has inflicted himself on several of the best theaters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area from time to time over the last thirty plus years, a couple of which managed to survive the experience and are still in business. He stopped doing live theater when he discovered he had too short an attention span for it and now indulges his muse doing voice work for radio and TV. Louis Tarmichael (Little Willie) is a math teacher by day and caped crusader by night (but don't tell the cops). His talents include sword fighting, vocal impressions, knowing the lyrics to every Disney song ever written, and being really good at math. If you see him in the wild and tell him a pun, he will give you a high five. He is survived by his beautiful wife and adorable daughter. Joseph L Taylor II (Fight Choreographer) would like to thank you for blessing us with your patronage at Rover Dramawerks. He would like to personally thank Carol and Jason Rice, Darise Error, and Rhonda Durant. “Thank you for coming out and seeing what we love to do and I urge to share that love with everyone you come in contact with on your travels. Don't forget to donate!” His favorite fights he's directed are in this production of Kong's Night Out.
