Picture in Dacorum• One of ten Local Authorities in Hertfordshire• Largest population of all Hertfordshire's Districts - 144,800• Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring and ten small villages• 65.5% of the borough's population is of working age, 15.8% of the

population is of retirement age, 18.7% of the population are children

• Mix of rural and urban settings• Dacorum as a whole is quite well off – affluent areas and pockets of

deprivation

• Indices of multiple deprivation (IMD) score for Dacorum is 10.9• LSOA level deprivation is more apparent with ten LSOA’s demonstrating an

IMD score between 20-30.

• 47.7% of people do no sport, 42% do at least once a weeK, 33% do some but less than three times and week and 14.9% do three (or more) times a week

• 58.40% of people in Dacorum would like to do more sport (2012/13)

Get, Set, Go Dacorum is targeted at specific wards and Lower Super Output Areas (LSOA’s) across the borough, using sport as a mechanism for dealing with six key priorities, in the areas where we know the problems exist.

•Health inequalities in the most deprived communities

•Obesity

•Child poverty

•Rural exclusion

•Health inequalities and access issues for ethnic minority groups

•Access issues for people with a disability

Six priorities for Get, Set, Go Dacorum

We will;

•Run individual and family sporting activities

•Provide equipment and support to communities

•Build a network of community sport leaders

•Create a network of sports volunteers and ‘buddies’

•Work with existing community and voluntary sector groups

•Work with a range of partners including housing providers

•Link the project with Health and Well Being initiatives

•Link the project together to support services such as debt advice, counselling

•Invest in local sporting infrastructure – Dacorum Sports Network website

•Ensure staff are trained to a high standard

How will we address the six priorities?
