Job Search – Finding the right job in Federal Government
Do your research on the different agencies and then target your job search. - Each agency hiring on their own- Start atUSAJOBS.gov and check the job pages of agencies
Identify the job you want and carefully review the job announcement. - Qualifications- Required documents and steps
Carefully follow the application instructions. - Target your resume to the job announcement, demonstrating how your skills and experiences match up.
Patience is a virtue and no news may be good news. - The process typically takes longer than the private sector- If you need to make a decision and haven’t heard back, follow up!
Be prepared. Keep all of your records, awards, transcripts, writing samples, references and a current resume handy for the next steps, such as an interview and/or background investigation.

Political Campaigns - A good way to get started in a political career is to volunteer for a political campaign. Volunteering can help students make important contacts that can lead to an internship on Capitol Hill.
District Offices - Many members of Congress offer internships in their district offices which can also lead to positions in Washington, DC.
The Congressional Budget Office - This congressional office offers summer internships that provide experience with the federal budget process and policymaking.

United Negro College Fund (UNCF)–Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowships- For the IIPP Fellowship Program, underrepresented minority sophomore students are recruited from across the nation to apply for participation in a five-year sequence of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, and graduate study.
