CURRENT OHIO LAWS ON TEXTING WHILE DRIVINGIn Ohio, all drivers are banned from texting and
driving 5
took effect March 1, 2013, had a six month warning period prior so if you get caught texting and driving, you will receive a fine
Fines for violation of the anti-texting law are up to $150
for novice drivers, up to $300
Raises car insurance
It is a secondary offense in the state of Ohio
WHY IS TEXTING WHILE DRIVING UNSAFE?
You are not only jeopardizing yourself 6
It completely diverts your attention, forcing you to multi task which research has proven that no one is a master of multitasking
If you test someone while they are texting or distracted on their phone, they will miss a lot of things that are in their visual periphery
Texting while driving makes a driver 23 times more likely to crash
Answering a text takes away your attention for about five seconds. That is enough time to travel the length of a football field
HOW DO THEY JUSTIFY IT?
• Reading a text is safer than composing and sending one 7
• Holding the phone near the windshield creates better visibility when texting and driving
• Increasing following distance will help decrease the chance of rear-ending the car in front 8
• Texting only at a stop sign or red light is completely safe and legal 9
• FALSE!

#X
#X is a shorthand way to text your friends to let them know you are about to get in a car and that you will respond to them as soon as you get to your location 10
The idea is to be able to text this to your friends, and have the conversation paused, and started up again as soon as you arrive
#X Before You Drive
