DUAL RACE MEETING NOMINATIONSEFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
Please Note:
Any horse that’s been nominated for consecutive race meetings (eg Sat/Mon, Sun/Mon, Sun/Tues) and is drawn at both nominated meetings, but the trainer does not wish to start at both and has not withdrawn the horse before final acceptances of the second meeting, then the horse/s concerned will now incur a
14-day scratching penalty.
The Harness Racing Office and Handicapper/s will not assume that a horse gaining a start at its first nominated meeting should automatically be withdrawn
from its second nominated meeting.
Please contact the Harness Racing Office if further clarification is required.

RACING AHEAD HARNESS - October 13
Make your bet matter
New TABtouch initiative to boost WA Race Club fundingWestern Australian metropolitan and regional race clubs are set to cash in on an estimated $1M in additional funding within the first 12 months of a new partnership with TABtouch – the wagering arm of Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA).
“ Race clubs are set to cash in on an estimated $1M in additional funding ”
RWWA has announced the TABtouch initiative which will provide race clubs with an opportunity to earn additional revenue through on-course wagering turnover and TABtouch accounts.
“This project was created in collaboration with the racing industry to increase funding directly to race clubs to assist with maintaining facilities and other race day functions. Revenues from TABtouch help fund the WA racing industry and to have race clubs advocating for the TABtouch brand will lead to a brighter future for all,” said RWWA General Manager Wagering, Michael Saunders.
Under the initiative, TABtouch will recognise race club members with existing TABtouch accounts and give their club a portion of all betting activity on any racing or sporting event . Over 1,000 members from 15 different race clubs have already been matched to existing TABtouch accounts, with many more to be identified over the coming weeks.
Furthermore, new location based technology implemented across all Western Australian racecourses, will enable any TABtouch customer betting on-course to be identified (whether they are a race club member or not). A portion of any bets placed while on-course will then be paid out to the respective club.
There has never been a better time to bet with TABtouch and support your local race club.

BOTRA NewsAnEmailreceivedfromAldoCortopassi-“AfewPointsofInterest”.
It is time to see some on course stabling (like Menangle) to help young trainers get started in the harness racing Industry. The industry has bent over backwards to help young drivers, but if there are no trainers to progress into the industry, what will they have to drive? On course stabling would help clubs like Byford and Pinjarra as well as their communities.
I have watched a lot of racing from all over the world and notice that the mobile barrier starts are slower than in this State by comparison, or is it that the mobile barrier takes too long to get moving. I believe it should start moving as soon as the outside horses start to move up into position at the barrier, this would then cause all the other runners to move into position and would stop a lot of false starts as these horses will be in a better gait and striding faster in the correct position at the mobile barrier.
The whip issue continues to drag on. The new rules however, make the driver look untidy and worse, the action of slapping the horse with the reins and the whip can be seen to be dangerous. Not being able to practice the skill of lifting a horse to the line by bridging the reins with the correct whip action (sometimes not even striking the horse) needs to be readdressed. The new rule has led to many offences and loose reining still continues often by the same drivers, but somehow they avoid penalties (look at the Gloucester Park winning photos and slow motion on video replays). If a rule was introduced that allows a driver to bridge the reins and correctly use a modified whip a nominated number of times it would avoid the strong prospects of an accident waiting to happen with the current rules causing drivers to not have full control of their horse.
I believe it is time to re conform race tracks, a good example is the Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Club track at Kellerberrin where the enclosure of the surrounding areas and facilities and presentation of a good race track with a sprint lane, make this venue very popular. My opinion is that tracks like Wagin and Williams should move to Narrogin leading to RWWA having the ability to reinvest savings by servicing one track instead of three, back into harness racing revenue. As a driver/trainer who travels everywhere to race, it is time to look at the big picture and do what is best for the industry as a whole and not favour small groups which cannot accept change. RWWA has the responsibility of a major business with huge overheads and needs to make the right decisions for sustainability of the harness industry in Western Australia, even though this will upset certain industry interests.
As a trainer/driver I believe Wednesday night or afternoon trials should be introduced. With the implementation of more Sunday meetings, it is difficult for the trainer/drivers to trial horses on that day (to lift bans or adjust gear etc.) and trying to do so may lead to an OHS issue because of late nights from previous Saturday meetings. I believe the Metropolitan club should take some of the responsibility and conduct Wednesday Night or afternoon trials.
