Get to Know Arts to Grow

Mission to Help Children Achieve Their Full Potential

ATG engages children in the artistic process by providing highly tailored and professionally

taught arts education programs to youth who have limited access to the arts. Arts to Grow

collaborates closely with schools and community groups to match performing and visual arts

programs and Teaching Artists with the specific needs of each group of children. ATG serves

the community and society by helping children develop their full potential through the arts.

ATG serves at-risk and less advantaged youth who have little or no access to arts education.

Our evidence-based programs provide high quality arts instruction that enables these children

to live up to their potential and achieve success. Enabling for success: that’s our mission.

Studies have shown that arts education benefits not just arts awareness, but also reading,

language, math, social and critical thinking skills, as well as self -sustained motivation and

personal confidence. These abilities make our students ready for the challenges they’ll face

every day in their real world.

ATG’s effectiveness is based in creating a deep impact on each child; we are committed to

helping each one feel empowered, confident and excited about learning.

Who Is Arts to Grow?

Major benefits of arts education are seen in reading, language and mathematical skills,

critical thinking, social skills and individual motivation. *

Students who take four years of arts and music classes while in high school score 91 points

better on their SATs than students who took only one -half year or less. **

27% of teens at high risk of dropping out stay in school when exposed

to the arts. ***

There’s a connection between community culture and child welfare:

low-income communities with high cultural participation are more

than twice as likely to have lower truancy and delinquency than those

without. ****

At the Cypress Hills LDC/IS 302, David Freeman’s students learned basic rhythmic hand

drum techniques and ensemble playing. Freeman observed his students developing “a

respect for themselves, for others and for the music.”

Assistant Principal Rebecca Fagin at Mott Hall II Middle School noted, “What is so amazing

is to see these adolescents come out of their shell and feel good about themselves

physically. To see (them) express themselves with confidence and pride is no simple feat.”

At PS 75, PTA After School Program Directo r Marge Hudson has stated, “Our association

with Arts to Grow is helping us address an ongoing resource shortage for our low -income

families… We are hoping for a long association with Arts to Grow.”
