Biogradska goraThere are 26 plant habitats with 220 plant species. Biogradska gora is home to 150 birds and 10 mammals species , and also 86 types of trees. Streams and the lake itself hide three trout variations and 350 insect species.

This beautiful park stretches over 5400 acres of land surrounded by mountains higher than 2000 meters including nine glaciers and one glacial lake - Biogradsko.

Most prominent features of this Park are its wild and untouched forests with some trees being older than 500 years old, large mountain slopes and tops, smaller glacier lakes at 1820m above sea level and an easily accessible Bio-gradsko lake located at the very entrance to the Park.

The entire area is renowned as a unique geological and morphological re gion and as such is very attractive for scientific research.

National Assembly of Montenegro has declared the part of the Prokletije massif for the fifth and the youngest national park in 2009.

Total area of the park is 16.630 ha, with mountain peaks reaching over 2000 m above sea level. From a tourist`s point of view, most significant features in Prokletije are vallies formed by glacier flow of the alpine type, together with numerous cirques in higher parts, representing significant glacier morfological elements.

Specific geomorphological and ecosystem characteristics of this mountainious region of Balkan make it similar to the Alps. There are also numerous glacial lakes in the Prokletije mas-sif. With the exception of Plavsko, all other lakes are typical examples of natural phenomena known as “mountain eyes”.

Durmitor national park covers 39.000 square km that include 82 kilometers of Tara river canyon that rises 1300 me-ters above river level.

There are 18 glacier lakes in the Park as is the highest moun-tain peak in Montenegro – Bobotov kuk with 2522 meters above sea level. The Black lake (Crno jezero) is the most fa-mous of the 18 glacier lakes of this mountain. It is covered in snow during winter, and visited by numerous bathers in the summer. Since 1980.

National park Durmitor and Tara canyon are protected by UNESCO. In 1977. the canyon was given a special status of a world ecological reservation. Canyon of Tara is the larg-est of its kind in Europe and is populated by more than 1500 plant species and 130 bird species. Another tourist attraction is a natural phenomenon in the Ice Cave, which contains sta-lactites and stalagmites all year round. During the summer, you can enjoy hiking, biking, fishing or rafting, and during the winter - skiing.

Lovcen National Park streches over the central and the high-est part of the Mt. Lovcen massif, with the area of 6.220 ha. It received a special National Park status in 1952. Lovcen mountain area is rich in traditional architecture. There are many old houses and trashing floors, as well as cottages in the “katun” - summer cattlemen settlement. Nearby view-point offers a spectacular view of Boka Kotorska bay and Ka-tunska nahija, which was described by Bernard Shaw, as “The Sea of Stone”.

The most impressive monument in the NP Lovcen is the Njegos Mausoleum, built on Jezerski vrh, a location chosen by this eminent poet and philosopher as a place where he wanted to be burried.

Due to its location, at the border of two completely differ-ent natural entities, sea and continent, Lovcen is influenced by both climate types. On the other hand, the orography of the Lovcen brings the influence of mountain climate. These differ-ent influences resulted in very rich and diverse flora and fauna.

There are 50 fish and 3 snake species living in the lake. As for local fauna, there are three very rare and protected plant and tree species and numerous other valuable plants in park.

BarBar is an important and dynamic trade centre of Montenegro, but is also a town of rich cultural tradition and history.

Some of the highest achievements of Montenegro’s culture originated from Bar. The oldest written documents and the most important work of medieval Montenegrin literature and history can be found here.

The town also served as the seat of the oldest religious institution of Montenegro (the Bar archbishopric).

One of the world’s oldest olive trees grows here, the Old Olive of Mirovica, which is more than 2000 years old. The rich cultural and historic heritage of Bar belongs to different epochs and civilizations. It would be very difficult to list all the remarkable monuments in Bar.

Žabljak

Zabljak is the city on the highest altitude of the Balkans. It is located at the altitude of 1456 m. Located in the very center of enormous mountain of Durmitor.
