Purpose

This series of clinics has focused on helping you to re-open safely.

During the clinic today, we will focus on what has changed since indoor facilities in England have been allowed to re-open.

Today’s clinic is our first since facilities have opened and we hope you will share what has gone well and what you have learnt. It is also an opportunity to ask further questions.

Using our operational experience including our health and safety knowledge, we have developed a Re-mobilisation Action Plan that may help your organisation and managers to ask themselves the right questions and implement appropriate action.

What can open? - update

From 1st August:

• Indoor ice skating rinks• Bowling alleys• Beauticians (close contact)

To Remain Closed:

• Saunas and steam rooms• Soft play• Spectator sports (paid for) and contact sports

Scotland and Wales:

• Dates to be confirmed – hopefully today!

What have we heard?

What we have heard:

• Many facilities permitted to re-open have not done so yet

• Approximately 350 swimming pools out of a total of 1600 opened

• A Parliamentary report has said the Government must work with councils to ensure necessary funding is in place to preserve leisure facilities. The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has published its report into the impact of Covid-19 on the sector following an inquiry.

• The majority of those that have re-opened have said it has gone really well and customers are delighted to be back!

• From 1st August (16th August in Wales), the government is pausing shielding of clinically vulnerable and clinically extremely vulnerable people, meaning they can return to work

It is a comprehensive self-assessment that can be completed in any sports and leisure facility - it allows you to internally and confidentially assess your facilities position, be given recommendations on how to improve, take action and then apply for your accreditation.
