TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY WELCOME HOME! Getting Involved There are several ways to get involved on campus. Below are some general areas that students can be- come involved as early as the first week on campus. Your building’s Hall Senate is a student government which provides programming and events geared towards residents in that community. They are also great mediums for advocating changes within the halls.You can be involved as a representative from your house or by serving on the executive commit- tee. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is the parent organization for the Hall Senates. RHA serves in a unique capacity as the central student government for all on-campus residents. RHA is the combi- nation of a programming body and a policy forming body all wrapped into one organization. RHA is comprised of students elected by fellow residents.This organization is a great opportunity to get in- volved in Residence Life on a larger scale! To learn more about RHA, visit http://rha.truman.edu. There are several opportunities for employment within your hall as well. Each hall has scholarship, work-study, and institutionally paid employment opportunities available. Possible options for work in- clude, but are not limited to: Residence Hall Desk Attendant; Night Monitor; Hall Staff Assistant; or Re- ceptionist/Clerical workers in the Residence Life Office. Applications for these jobs as well as other on-campus employment are available at https://trupositions.truman.edu/jobs. Working for Residence Life provides the convenience of living close to where you work, as well as providing a flexible schedule. Talk to your Hall Director when you arrive on campus for more information. Greek Life strives to provide guidance and support for students’ out-of-classroom involvement. Stu- dent Affairs staff works in partnership with 30 Greek organizations to develop programs and policies that encourage a sense of belonging, promote self-governance, challenge students to gain new skills and knowledge, and enable students to participate in positive individual and societal change. You can learn more about the Greek organizations on campus by visiting http://greeklife.truman.edu. The Student Recreation Center provides programs and services for en- hancing the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.The Fitness Wellness Program offers wellness workshops, personal training, and a myriad of non-credit classes from step aerobics to martial arts. Intramural Recreational Sports sponsors healthy competition in individual and team sport activities.The Student Recreation Center contains many areas for self-directed activity: a three-court hardwood floor gym, jogging track, aero- bics/dance studio, auxiliary court gym with multipurpose floor, and a weight room and fitness area filled with state-of-the-art exercise equipment. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is a central resource for Truman’s 250+ active student organizations.These organizations are grouped in the following categories: Campus Media Cultural Departmental/Professional Greek Governing Boards Greek Social Fraternities and Sororities Honorary Recreational/Sports Religious Residence Life Environment Service Special Interest Student Government/Political Each semester begins with an Activities Fair which is an opportunity for students to learn more about Truman’s student organizations. As part of the overall Student Union program, the CSI provides programs and services in the areas of campus programming, student organizations, leadership develop- ment, and recognition programs. The CSI is housed in the Student Union, and advises the student activities fee-funded Student Activities Board that provides entertainment for the student body. In addition, the CSI advises the Funds Allotment Council.The Center for Student Involvement also coordinates volunteer opportunities through the SERVE Center. Athletics is committed to enhancing the University’s commitment to a lib- eral arts and sciences education by providing a positive experience for over 450 student athletes. Truman State University is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and is a charter member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Athletics sponsors 20 different sports teams. Men’s sports include football, basketball, swimming, soccer, tennis, baseball, cross-country, indoor/outdoor track, and wrestling.
