getting noticed by a ux hiring manager
DESCRIPTION
As part of San Francisco Design Week, IxDA SF presented a multi-speaker evening featuring IxDA SF members sharing insights and stories from both the design candidate and hiring manager perspectives. In addition to giving a talk as part of the event, I organized and hosted. Speakers: Danielle Arvanitis – featured speaker and IxDA SF member told a tale of the trials and tribulations associated with hiring into a UX team and shared insights on making sure it’s the right team. Sharon Cardinal (@luckybird) — I shared insights learned from the other side of the table in my role as designer and hiring manager at Trulia. Nick Cawthon — IxDA SF local leader Nick will shared his own insights from both perspectives.TRANSCRIPT

It's funny, one of the things I like to do is sometimes referred to as cart-horsing. Or the act of putting the cart in front of the horse. Its a fun thing to do. Case in point, i've been looking at homes and condos via your app for months.
You see i've given up on my typical Art Director life in a digital agency in favor of uprooting my family from Toronto Canada to San Francisco. No small feat. I fell in love with your app and have been happily browsing and saving homes for a while now. It’s really great. So when I see that there is a chance to work at such a great place that has kinda helped me in this new life goal I figured why not right?
So check out my work I've done, yeah it skews agency-ish but I'm super flexible and always eager to learn new stuff. This life/career pivot is a welcome challenge. I've been at this for 13 years, i'm not out of steam just choosing to re-focus on something that can actually help people in their lives as opposed to something seemingly disposable.
Thanks for reading.
