IntroductionCongratulations on your purchase of Tally 9.

Tally has enhanced features but retains the same ease and simplicity of its earlier versions.

Getting Started with Tally 9 helps you install and activate Tally. You will be introduced to all the new features of Tally 9 that facilitate easy maintaining of accounts in the language of your choice right away.

Once you start Tally, refer to the Tally Online Help for a detailed explanation of the features, functions and concepts of Tally. Tally Online Help is a reference document that is the source of information on how to use Tally. It will guide you through the various stages of implementation.

Minimum Hardware Requirements for Tally 9

Note: An increased RAM will improve the performance of Tally 9.

Operating System RequirementsMicrosoft Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/2003/XP/ Vista.

To make use of the complete functionality of the Concur-rent multilingual capability of Tally 9, we recommend Windows XP and above.

Note: The Tally License Server can be installed only on Windows NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista.

Processor Intel Pentium IV and above or equivalent

Memory 256 MB RAM

Recommended 512 RAM MB Free Hard Disk Space

40MB Minimum (Excluding the data)

Monitor Resolution Recommended 1024 x 768 or higher

Installation of Tally

Installation of Tally

When you install Tally, a folder named Tally is selected by default, where the program files will reside. You have the option of specifying a different folder name.

Pre-Installation A note for Installations on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista.

You need to have administrator rights (to create, write, update, modify and delete) on the Application, Data, Configuration and Language directory. Ensure that the Operating System you use supports the

languages in Tally 9.

Installing Tally - SilverInstall Tally using any one of the following methods:

Method 1: a. Click INSTALL.EXE from the CD

(OR)Method 2:

a. Click START from Windows b. Select RUN c. TYPE <CD drive>:\INSTALL d. Press ENTER key

The Tally 9 Setup Wizard is displayed. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen to install Tally.

1. Click Cancel to stop setup or click Next to continue, the Installation wizard displays the License Agree-ment.

2. Read the license agreement before you proceed. Click I Agree to continue. Click I Decline to stop the set-up or click Back to go to the previous screen.

3. In the Tally 9 Setup screen, you may accept the default directories or click on the buttons provided to change the path of Application Directory, Data Directory, Configuration Directory or Language Directory respectively. Use Tab or the mouse to change the path of any of the directories.

Application DirectoryThe Tally program files reside in this directory.

Data DirectoryThe Tally data resides in this directory.The default directory where data is stored is C:\Tally\Data. To change, click on Change Data Directory button and enter the new directory.

Tally detects and retains the data configutation path of the previously installed version

Configuration DirectoryTally configuration files reside in this directory.You can specify the path of the directory where the configuration files should be saved. It is usually the same path as the Application Directory.

Language DirectoryTally Language files (.dct) reside in this directory.You can specify the path of the directory where the Language files will be maintained. It is usually the same path as the Application Directory.

Note: If you are a Multi-License User, check My License Server is Running at and enter the server name or server IP address and port number in Name/IP and Port respectively.

4. Click Install Operating System Language Supportto enable Language Support. (Incase Language Sup-port is already installed, Install Operating System Language Support option is disabled)

5. Select your Country in Country Selection.6. Select the Initial Startup Language from the List.

When you start Tally for the first time, Tally will appear in the language selected as the Initial StartupLanguage.

7. Click Install.The installation progress status bar is displayed as shown below.

8. Insert Windows CD to install a language or Browsefor the i386 folder in your system.

Note: You will be prompted for the i386 folder only if it is not available on your system and for specific operating systems only.

9. Click OK to install Language Support.10. Click Finish to complete Setup.

You are now ready to use Tally. You can click the Tally program icon on the desktop.

3. In the Installation screen, you may accept the default License Server Directory and the Port Number or click on the button provided to change the license server path and enter the port number in Port.

Note: By default the Tally License Server is configured to run on port 9090, this can be changed later by modifying the Tally.ini file.

LicServerPort - A new Tally.ini Parameter has been introduced to indicate the port where the Tally License Server is running (e.g.: LicServerPort = 9090).

License Server DirectoryThe Tally License Server and License Server Admininstra-tion program files reside in this directory.

4. Click Install.The installation progress status bar is displayed as shown below.

5. Click Finish to complete Setup.

You are now ready to use Tally. You can click the Tally program icon on the desktop.

4. Check My License Server is running at and enter the name or IP address of the server and the port number in the Name/IP and Port respectively.

5. Click Install Operating System Language Supportto enable Language Support. (Incase Language Sup-port is already installed, Install Operating System Language Support option is disabled)

6. Select your Country in Country Selection.7. Select the Initial Startup Language from the List.

Launching Tally

Tally 9 is displayed in the Start menu as shown. The sub-menu displays Tally 9 program. It also displays Tally Help and uninstall Tally 9.

A shortcut to Tally 9 is set up on the desktop. The Tally 9icon is displayed in the quick launch bar, if it is enabled.

Activating TallySilver for Single User Licensing

Activating TallyActivating Tally 9 Silver for Single User Licensing

The Single User Licensing allows installation of Tally only on ONE computer. Single User can be activated through online or offline method.

If you have an Internet connection (Online)

You can activate the license using the Online option available in F12: Configure settings.

Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online > Activate

Tally program will connect to the Tally Internet Services server, validate your registration information and activate the license. When you start Tally for the first time, the Activation Form will display as shown:

1. Enter the Serial number printed on the CD cover.2. Enter the Key printed inside the CD cover.3. Enter email address.4. Press Enter to proceed.

On entering the correct Serial number and Key, a message displays indicating that your license is acti-

vated.If you do not have an Internet connection (Offline)

You can activate the license using the Offline option available in F12: Configure settings. The Activation Form is displayed when you start Tally for the first time. Press Esc or Ctrl+Q to quit this form.

Now, go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Offline > Activate

The same Activation Form is displayed in the offline mode.

1. Enter the Serial number printed on the CD cover.2. Enter the Key printed inside the CD cover.3. Enter your email address.4. Press Enter to proceed.

If your Serial number, Key and Email/Id are correct, you will get a message that your tally_req.lic file has been suc-cessfully generated.

1. The tally_req.lic file is stored in the Tally folder.

2. Copy the tally_req.lic file in a CD or a floppy.

3. Insert the CD/floppy in the computer which has Tally installed and is connected to the Internet.

4. Copy the tally_req.lic file from the CD/floppy to the Tally folder in this computer.

5. Start Tally on the computer connected to the Internet. Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Offline

6. Click Send External Request to send the request to the Tally Internet Services server.

7. The response will be saved in a new file called tally_resp.lic, which will be generated in the Tally folder. Copy the tally_resp.lic file onto a CD/floppy from the computer connected to the Internet

8. Copy the same file into the Tally folder of your computer. You are now ready to use Tally.

Note: If you cannot activate Tally because of connectivity issue or for any other reason, please try again after sometime. For more details on Licensing, refer to Tally Online Help

License Menu in Single User System The user can find the following options in the license menu of the Single user edition.

Note: To use Tally Single user on another computer, you need to surrender the license active on the first computer. To do this, use the option Surrender (Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online/Offline > Surrender) and subsequently activate the same on a different computer.

Refer to Tally Online Help for more details on the options available in the Licensing menu and Surrender-ing the license.

Activating Tally 9 Gold for Multi User Licensing

Multi User licensing allows you to install Tally on all the computers connected through a local area network (LAN). In such a set-up, one computer is designated as the License Server and all other computers will be License clients. The Tally license server is installed on the computer designated License Server.

Tally License Server Admin Tool

1. Double click on LicenseServerAdmin.exe which is available in the Tally default folder. The License Server Admin tools appears

Click Activate enter the Tally Serial Number, Activa-tion Key provided in the startup kit and a valid email address in the Activation Form.

Parameters that appear in Tally.ini file on the License ClientsOn successful installation of Tally on the client, open Tally.ini file located in the Tally directory and set the following parameters.

TallyLicenseServer = Name or IP of License Server Computer : Port Number.

Note: To use TallyGold on another computer, you need to surrender the license active on the first computer. To do this, use the option Surrender (Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online/Offline > Surrender) and subsequently activate the same on a different computer.

License Server Admin Tool

The License Admin Tool Menu has the following options.

License Server Operations (Only for License Service for Multi-user environment)

Install - To install the Tally License service Uninstall - To uninstall the previously installed Tally

License Service Restart - To restart the License Service

License Operations(Only for License Server for Multi-user environment)

Proxy Configuration - to configure the proxy server for internet access. Activate - to activate Tally License Update - to update Tally License Surrender - to surrender Tally License

License Server Status (for License Clients) Name/IP - The Name or the IP Address of the com-

puter designated as the License Server

Activating TallyGold for Multi User Licensing

Port - is the dedicated port number on which the License server is running Ping - To ping the License Server and check the sta-

tus of the License Server and if the License Service is running.

Important: If you desire to make any changes to your Hardware, such as Hard Disk and Removable Storage Devices, it is recommended that you surrender the License from your computer, before initiating these changes. Else, Tally will switch to Educational mode.

Note: If Tally and License server are installed on the same machine the License can also be activated using Gateway of Tally >F12:Configuration >Licensing, similary to Tally 9 Silver activation.

Refer Tally Online Help for more details on Surrendering the license.

Registering Tally

Registering Tally To register Tally,

Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing

You can register Tally through the Internet using the Register Yourself button on the right side of the Gateway of Tally screen.

The Login screen displays the following: 1. Enter the Serial Number and Key/ID in their

respective fields2. Click Login to proceed.

The Registration screen is displayed. 3. Enter your details in the form. 4. Click Save.

You will get a message confirming your registration.

You can also register your Tally by clicking on the Register Yourself link at www.tallysolutions.com.

Validating Tally

Validating Tally

The procedure for validating Tally is the same for Single and Multi User editions. The License has to be validated within 45 days of activation and is a one - time process. Tally will prompt you to validate the license, one week before the expiry date. If you do not validate, Tally will switch to Educational Mode.

If you are connected to the Internet on Tally (Online):

For an online user who has administrator privileges, Tally will validate the License and display the License Updated Successfully message.

Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online > Update

If you do not have an Internet connection (Offline):

If you are an Offline User, Tally will display the message - Your License is about to expire! Please re-activate. You will have to validate the license in a computer that has Internet connection.

Refer to the procedure explained in the section on If you do not have an internet connection in Activating Tally

To validate the license manually,

Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Offline > Update

Tally Data Migration Tool

Tally Data Migration Tool

Tally 7.2 customers can now migrate their data from Tally and Tally Compliant Products ( TDL files / Cus-tomised files ) to Tally 9 using the Tally Data Migration Tool.

The Tally Data Migration Tool works with the Tally 9.exe and allows migration of company data including Masters, Vouchers and Reports.

The data migrated from Tally 7.2 to Tally 9 will appear in the Tally 7.2 data folder. The migrated data is prefixed with a 0 and appears as a 5 digit number. The Migration tool resides in the Tally folder after the installation of Tally 9.

Uninstalling Tally

1. Click UninstallTally 9 from Start > Programs > Tally 9.

2. By default, Tally 9 is selected. 3. Click on Uninstall to uninstall Tally 9.

Note: You need to have administrator rights to uninstall Tally 9 If any of the Tally 9 files are running then a message is

displayed ‘Couldn’t Delete Some of the files. Exiting Uninstallation…’ Click OK. To uninstall, close the file/s and start the uninstall procedure again.

4. Click Finish to complete uninstalling.

Uninstalling removes all the files created during Installation except for the Data Folder which is left intact.

On uninstallation, a Backup folder containing a Restorefolder along with the date and time of uninstallation appears in the Tally folder.

The Restore_date_time folder contains the Lang folder which has the dct files and the stat.900 file as both these files are not deleted on uninstalling.

Tally Features

Tally uses the latest technology and incorporates complex features in a simplified manner. It is a robust easy to use system.

Multilingual Business Accounting and Inventory Management Features

Payroll: Tally Payroll enables users to set up and implement salary structures, ranging from simple to complex, as per the organization’s requirements. You can align and automate payroll processes and directly integrate them with main stream accounting applications. Payroll data can also be viewed as part of the existing and configurable cost centre reports for business analysis. Excise for Dealers: The Dealer Excise functionality in

Tally is easy to use with fast and error free voucher entry. You can track excise duty on each transaction and print invoices with Supplier & Manufacturer details as User configurable options. You can also generate reports and quarterly returns in Form-2 as per Central Excise Statutory requirements. Multilingual Support: Tally can now be used

concurrently in the language of your choice. Tally’s Interface is now available in Bahasa Melayu besides English and the Indic languages Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam and Hinglish (colloquial). FBT (Fringe benefit tax): FBT in Tally supports

Challan management and printing for prompt and accurate filing of tax. On entering the transactions, Tally automatically calculates the FBT and generates the Reports. VAT Composition Returns: VAT Composition

Returns in Tally provides fast and error-free voucher entry with complete tracking of each transaction. It

supports the printing of VAT Composition Returns of any state in which VAT has been implemented. The Composition Rate of VAT is automatically recognised based upon turnover and the tax payable is calculated automatically and shown in the Return Form TDS (Tax Deducted at Source): TDS in Tally

provides an easy-to-use interface with complete flexibility. It helps you to handle all intricate cases and automatically/manually calculate the tax amount payable to the Income Tax Department. You can also generate TDS challans and Exception reports. VAT (Value Added Tax): VAT is completely

integrated with Tally. To make the computation easier, VAT comprises pre-defined list of sales and purchase classification. It enables fast and error-free voucher entry, printing of Tax invoices and better VAT-returns management. Synchronisation in Tally helps you transfer data

between two or more locations (Example: A Branch Office and the Head Office of a company are at two different locations). Synchronization can be done both ways (Data transfer from Branch Office to Head Office and vice-versa) E-mail reports and documents directly from Tally. It

not only saves postage cost, but also your valuable time Publish reports in HTML on Web or Intranet and

share them with suppliers, customers or own staff Direct web browsing capability in Tally helps avoid

switching between programs. Exchange data with other systems using XML. Tally

provides you with means to collaborate with other databases and share information like never before. ODBC connectivity opens up Tally. This makes

Tally fields in ODBC to be compliant with programs like MS Word and MS Excel. This enables you to

integrate Tally data dynamically into other ODBC systems. It even designs a form like remittance advice and imbed fields like Customer name and address, account balances and so on, in Excel/Word.

Note: ODBC connectivity will work with ODBC compliant

programs. Tally enables publishing on the Web using FTP and

HTTP. Secure HTTP is used for encrypted data exchange. XML – XML is rapidly replacing SDF as the primary

format for exchange of data between application programs. It facilitates integration of different systems.

Performance and Implementation Features Colours: The user interface has now changed with

more appealing colours, aimed at enhancing your experience with Tally. Tally’s Phonetic Keyboards: Tally’s Phonetic

keyboard is useful for those who speak the language but do not know how to type it using the operating system keyboard. It is user friendly with the same layout as that of the English characters. You can spell the term based on its sound and the data is transliterated in the language selected. Copying Text From Tally to Windows: Copying text

Software License AgreementTALLY 9

This is a legal agreement between yourself, the lawful purchaser of the software described hereunder, hereinafter referred to as the LICENSEE on the one part and Tally Solutions FZ-LLC, hereinafter referred to as the COMPANY on the other part. By installing the software described below, the Licensee agrees to be bound by the terms of this agreement. If you, the Licensee, do not agree to the terms of this agreement, promptly return the complete and undamaged software packet along with the accompa-nying items (including written materials, binders, brochures etc) to the place from where the software was purchased for a full refund of price paid.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE: The COMPANY grants to the LICENSEE a non exclusive and non-transferable right to use the accompanying software program, TALLY 9 hereinafter called the SOFTWARE. The SOFTWARE is in ‘use’ on a computer when it is loaded into temporary memory (that is RAM) or it is ‘installed’ into per-manent memory (example, Hard Disk, CD-ROM Disk, or any other storage device on the computer). The SOFTWARE may be used on a single computer (for the Sin-gle User edition of the SOFTWARE) or on a Local Area Network (LAN) Server (for the Unlimited Multi User Edition of the SOFTWARE) for use on any one or more nodes connected directly to the LAN server for simultaneous use by more than one user. This is the only situation under which more than one user can use the SOFTWARE simultaneously. The SOFTWARE may be freely moved from one computer to another belonging to the LICENSEE. The LICENSE is granted only for the use of the LICENSEE. The LICENSEE shall not rent, lease, or otherwise transfer this SOFTWARE and the rights to use the SOFTWARE.

2. INTELLECLTUAL PROPERTY & COPYRIGHT: The SOFTWARE is owned by Tally Solutions FZ-LLC and is protected by Copyright Laws of UAE and International Treaty Provisions relating to protection of all Intellectual Properties. Therefore, the Licensee must treat this SOFTWARE like any other copyrighted and intellectual property material (e.g. a book or musical recording). The Licensee shall not copy the SOFTWARE and/or written materials accompanying the SOFTWARE.

LIMITED WARRANTY AND REMEDY

1. WARRANTY: There is a limited warranty from the Company that the SOFT-WARE will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying written materials for a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of purchase and that the medium on which the SOFTWARE is supplied, will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of purchase. WARRANTY is void unless the purchase of the SOFTWARE is from authorized vendors in the geographical territory of the LICENSEE, or from the COMPANY. WARRANTY is applicable if, and only if, the licensee has completed the activation process by logging in the serial number and the key for the software, and the registration information of the licensee has been received and acknowledged by the COMPANY. Otherwise the WARRANTY shall not apply.

2. NO OTHER WARRANTY: The COMPANY and all its suppliers disclaim all other warranties, whether expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, with regard to the SOFTWARE and the accompanying written materials.

3. LICENSEE’S REMEDIES: The COMPANY and its suppliers’ entire liability and Licensee’s exclusive remedy shall be at the option of the COMPANY, either (a) refund of the price paid on the return of the SOFTWARE to the supplier and

giving the proof of having uninstalled the activation license, or (b) repair or replacement of the SOFTWARE that does not meet LIMITED WARRANTY of the COMPANY, and which is returned to the supplier with a copy of the proof of purchase (such proof of purchase being either the original invoice or receipt of the supplier). The LIMITED WARRANTY is void if the failure of the SOFTWARE has resulted from virus, any other software or process on the computer of the LICENSEE, improper use, accident, theft, abuse or misapplication of the SOFTWARE. Any replaced SOFTWARE will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or 30 (thirty) days whichever is longer.

4. NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES: The COMPANY and its suppliers under no circumstances shall be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profit, business interruption, loss of business information, or any other monetary or non-monetary loss) arising out of the use or the inability to use this SOFTWARE, even if the COMPANY has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND JURISDICTIONAll disputes between the parties connected with the terms of this agreement, or the use or inability to use the SOFTWARE or any other services of the COMPANY, related to the SOFTWARE, shall be subject to arbitration of a person to be appointed by the COMPANY, and the decision of the arbitrator will be binding on all parties as per applicable statutes. The arbitration proceedings shall be conducted in English and place of arbitration shall be Singapore. All proceedings shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws prevailing in Singapore and only competent courts within Singapore shall have jurisdiction to adjudicate the same.
