TRANSCRIPT
You can find Upstart Version 7 at: http://www.webmtn.com/downloads/download.php
Enter your email address, then download
• Unzip, install, then open • Click on Network, then
Configure • For the purposes of this
exercise, let’s assume you’re using a SPIM-01 Serial PIM as your powerline interface module
• From the Interface type dropdown, select RS232 PIM
• If you know your COM port select it, otherwise use the Find button
• Click Connect.
If you’re successful, you’ll see blue checkmarks in the Connect Log
Upstart will also tell you that “Selected powerline interface is operational”
Earlier in this slide show, we made the assumption that we would use a SPIM serial powerline interface unit as the UPB interface
However, in many cases, a better alternative is to use the Web Mountain Remote Universal Controller (RUC)
The RUC actually uses a SPIM-01 as the powerline interface, but allows you to remotely locate the powerline interface device
Now you’re not tied down to plugging the SPIM into an outlet next to your PC, where there might be many other interfering devices
You can locate the SPIM for best performance, for example next to the breaker panel
Now, you can walk around with a laptop and program devices, without having to unplug the SPIM and take it with you as you move to different devices
And the RUC acts as an embedded, 24/7 always on controller
See the webpage on the RUC on this site for more details
Now, you can use Upstart to build your UPB network. See the additional slideshows
throughout the site that show you how to add devices to your UPB network.
