Page 1
Exploring the settings
Open the settings app from your
homepage
Wi-Fi
Turn Wi-Fi on/off
Add new Wi-Fi Connection
Enter Network Name, any security type or
details (username/password)
Page 2
Notification Center
There are three types of
notifications:
1. Sounds: An audible alert
plays.
2. Alerts/Banners: An alert or
banner appears on the screen.
3. Badges: An image or number
appears on the application
icon.
Scroll through the list to view apps and
amend any Notification settings
Within a selected app (e.g.
Calendar) make any amendments
to Notifications
i.e. remove or none, change to a
Banner, or an Alert, remove/show
on Lock Screen
Page 3
Additional Information
If you have an app that could send frequent notifications (for example, Mail, Twitter, Facebook, etc),
your iPad could wake frequently to display the notification (and affect battery life). You can disable
Show on Lock Screen for a particular app in Settings > Notification Center > <app name>.
You can customize what you see
on your Today view. Go to
Settings > Notification Center and
using the switches, select which
options your would like to show
in Today view. You can choose to
sort your notifications manually or
by time. If you have chosen to sort
manually, tap edit in the upper
right corner, and drag your
notifications to your desired order
using
Control Center
You can enable and disable access to
Control Center from the Lock screen or
apps in Settings > Control Center
In Control Center, you can adjust these
settings:
Turn on or off Airplane mode, Wi-
Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, and
screen-orientation lock
Adjust screen brightness
Play, pause, or skip a song, and
adjust playback volume
Connect to an AirPlay device or
toggle between audio output
Adjust whether your device is
discoverable for AirDrop
Control Center also includes quick
access to these apps:
Camera
Timer
Page 4
.Do Not Disturb
You can use the Do Not Disturb
setting to silence calls, alerts, and
notifications.
To enable, tap Settings > Do
Not Disturb. When Do Not
Disturb is on, a "moon" icon will
appear in the status bar.
Additional Information
There are more settings for Do Not Disturb:
Manual: When enabled, calls and alerts received while the device is locked will be silenced.*
Scheduled: Automatically enable Do Not Disturb between the hours you specify.
Allow Calls From: Allow calls from everyone, no one, your favorites, or specific contact
groups stored on your device or your iCloud account.
Repeated Calls: If someone calls you twice within three minutes, the call will not be
silenced.
Silence: Choose to silence calls and notifications always or only when the device is locked.
General
Use iPad’s General settings to set up basic
functionality for your everyday use.
See Appendix 1 for a detailed table
outlining functionality of each General Setting
Page 5
Wallpaper & Brightness
Adjust the brightness of the screen by
dragging the slider, or turn on Auto-
Brightness to use the built-in ambient
light sensor*. When Auto-Brightness is
on, the device's ambient light sensor
measures the current level of lighting
and uses that for future brightness
adjustments.
Screen brightness affects battery life.
Dim the screen to extend the time
between charges
Sounds
The iPad lets you adjust sound settings in two
ways: You can adjust the volume for all apps
on your iPad, and you can specify whether
system sounds play for events such as new e-
mail, calendar alerts, and keyboard clicks.
Your iPad also makes sounds when certain
other events occur, if you want it to. You can
turn on and off the following system sounds:
New Mail
Sent Mail
Calendar Alerts
Lock Sounds
Keyboard Clicks
Passcode Lock
Setting up a passcode on your iPad is
as important part of protecting your
data. Each time you turn on or wake
up your device, it will ask you for
your passcode before you can use
the device.
You'll need to enter your passcode
whenever you:
Turn on or restart your
device
Slide to unlock the screen
Update your software
Erase your device
Page 6
Forget your passcode?
If you or someone else enters the wrong passcode too many times, your device will disable itself
temporarily
Privacy
Manage the information that apps can access
through here
Location Services: some apps track your
location to target information (ie Maps,
Google, Bank apps). Highly suggest
googling these settings and individually
tailoring to a level you’re personally
comfortable with.
iCloud
iCloud is Apple's online service
designed to make managing your
iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and
Apple TV, and your iTunes
content easier and more
automatic than ever. Like the
name implies, iCloud is based in
the "cloud". It consists of several
services that work with the apps
on your iPhone, iPod touch, and
iPad, and with iTunes and a
handful of desktop apps on Mac
and Windows. Most iCloud
services are completely free,
although additional storage and
services are available for purchase.
Because the vast majority of iCloud services are free, and because they work automatically and
transparently in the background to backup your data and give you access to your content, you
should absolutely use it.
You log in with your Apple ID and password and can manage the storage options from there

iMessage
If you’re a texter, you’ll love Messages on
iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Now they all
come with iMessage, a service that’s an even
better kind of texting. Because it’s free for
you and anyone texting over Wi-Fi using an
iOS device or Mac with iMessage. And it’s
unlimited.* So say as much as you want.
If you have more than one Apple device,
iMessage keeps the conversation going
across all of them. Send a message to one
person or to many friends at once — along
with photos, videos or links you like. When
someone replies, everyone sees it. With
more people you’ll get more texts, but
remember, it’s iMessage, so every text is free over Wi-Fi.
FaceTime
Make video calls over Wi-Fi from
your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or
Mac to someone else’s. You can
even make FaceTime calls over
cellular networks on iPhone or
iPad.
FaceTime works straight out of
the box — no need to set up a
special account or screen name.
All you have to do is enter your
Apple ID username and password
