The first thing that usually comes to mind when the term Ghost Hunters is used is probablythe show ghost hunters. After doing research we have discovered that there is much more tothis small community of people than expected.



INSPIRATIONWhat gets the person to their goals. It is a

plan of action to acheive the task at hand. Someone within the community that is

admired for their contributions and success.

This role can be anyone at any given time. It

is an ever changing position.

ROLEKnowing your position within your community

and being able to act upon it using anorganized structure. Someone can take on

numerous roles themselves while other roles

can be assigned based on skills and traits.

HistoricalConsciousnessThis is what surrounds the community. Having

historical consciousness is why new technology and

ideas keep going. You have to have an understanding

of what has been done in order to make something

new. It is reference to future decisions.

ORGANIZATIONALSTRUCTUREThe organization to how the community runs. It

tells who is responsible for what and keeps track

of the communities decision making. This is the

plan to meet all of the group’s goals.

LIFE GOALSThese are long term goals. Goals that take a lot of

effort and happen over time. This is what an

individual strives for in his or her own life. They

may join a community to help get to their life goal.

How a person chooses to represent themselves to

the commuinity. This can be done through status

updates, profile pictures, and how they interact

with other online members. A person can have

different characteristics online than in a physical

community.

AGENCY

Commitment and time are what make online

relationships easier, more flexible. You can have

500 friends online and easily interact with all of

them everyday whether it be through

facebook,email, or photo sharing. There are also

opportunities to meet someone online and then

take the relationship further and have a physical

interaction outside of the online community.

RELATIONSHIPS

People can come together and share experiencesthrough the web. A video, photo can be placed

publically and shared. People can then interact

and live through others videos or photos. They

can get an experience from and experience.

Here is our community diagram we constructed while doing research for our community. Wediscovered that there is a lot of overlap and shared traits of these elements within acommunity. These overlaps could be applied to either an individual or the community as awhole.

this is Mark. He is 41 years old. He is a married and a father of 2. He is involved in a ghosthunting community.




As a ghost hunter involved in a community it is very important to be aware of your role in thecommunity. When the way a person chooses to represent themselves(which is agency) andOrganizational structure overlaps, a persons role in the community is defined.




As a ghost hunter individual there are many needs involved. One of those being theequipment to investigate these paranormal experiences.



TRUTH

The search for the truth is the main goal for

every ghost hunter. They want to nd a ghost

for their own personal experience.

CLOSURE

An Individual may want to nd closure with a

loved one and this is their reason for hunt-

ing. They feel if they can connect with a

loved one, they can nd peace.


Another need for an individual is to share their values with someone. This is where anindividual may want to join a community to have a sense of shared experiences.




This is the overall poster for the individual. We included things like jargon, physical andmental boundaries, and a list of equipment used.

So what is involved in a community of Ghost Hunters?the ghost hunting community

The Ghost Hunting community is a gathering of those who believe in the paranormal and want to find some sort of proof. They

all have a faith in the unknown and are out to gather evidence of it for themselves and for the world. The range in involvement

in the community goes from actually trying to contact things from the afterlife all the way to sitting on the couch and watching

it happen on television. The spectrum is huge of those who are involved.

The community is what surrounds this entire structure. It is a group of people who sharesimilar interests and join together to form a bond and interaction.




In the case of Ghost hunting there are many community needs in order for their group towork.

such as where to hunt for paranormal activity. If a community is formed, locations andinformation can be exchanged. This creates relationships within the community.




Commitment and time are what make online relationships easier, more flexible. Influence is also something that the community needs. Having advice and skills that pertainto the field is a good way to be a heightened member of this society. If you have a specialtythat other people are interested in, then you will become something of more notoriety.




This brings us back to the community model. When shared life goals and Organizationalstructure overlap in a community, inspiration is created. The community then feeds of of each other for inspiration. This is what gets the person to their goals. It is a plan of action toachieve the task at hand.

they arrive and begin the investigation

he turns the app on selects the members to share with and then begins shooting the eventlive

and can view what the other member is experiencing




they then can directly assist eachother while having a live feed of the situation

How can the individual involve the online community

during their ghost hunting experience ?

How can a ghost hunter edit evidence quickly on site

and share instantly with the online community?

A individual can record audio, take photos, or video of evidence during an investigation.




the footage will then be automatically transferred to the ipad to allow for a larger editingscreen.




this evidence can then be hands on editing where the individual can actually grab the contentin their hands and edit.




this can also be done with video and photos.




the edited evidence will then be uploaded to the online site.




where the community can view the evidence and can give feedback.



How can a ghost hunter show off achievements in an

online community?

user selects a location from a list that can be modified by the user based on his interests,location, skill level, and the experience wanted




once on location the iphone will detect the he is in range of the place to be hunted and sendhim an alert




a specific badge will be presented to him




then the information will travel to the online hub where the user will collect these ghostbadges



How can a ghost hunter be more aware of specific

items that other community members have had anexperience with?

The ghost hunter goes to the online site to order tags to put on anything that gives them anexperience.




The tag is then taken with them to the site




When something paranormal occurs, the ghost hunter will find the spot where this happened.




The tag will then be placed in the spot in which the activity took place.




A photo will be taken of the spot, and a comment can be written to share what theexperience actually was.




When a dif erent ghost hunter goes to a site, they can then take the ipad and do a scan of theroom and the tags would stand out and the individual can spot where past activity hashappened.




Then the tag can be touched and the information on that tag will appear so the individual canread what another community member had experienced there.



How can a ghost hunter locate suspected hauntings in

their area?

the app is turned on and synced up with gps and the local environment




if the phone detects something unusual it will warn the user




the user can then ping his location and let the strange activity be known




others can join him and form a “flash mob” style investigation crew

if during the investigation any of these readings change dramatically




The hunter will be alarmed by the iphone and the new readings will appear.
