    BUSINESS CARD

    TIMELINE

      1984: events of Ghostbusters.

1989: events of Ghostbusters II .

1991: events of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Peter Venkman excitedlyinitiates plans to establish new franchises in Cincinnati, Los Angeles andChicago. Intern Bryan Welsh becomes head of the Chicago team.

1991-2000s: over the subsequent decades, there is a gradual lull in the

amount of supernatural activity; New York City headquarters is able to stayin business at full staff, but most of the other States-side branches seelittle action and are reduced to two- or three-man groups.

2000-early 2014 (roughly): a steady increase in spectral phenomena inLondon threatens an outbreak of public panic. The Lord Mayor of Londonhears about the Ghostbusters organisation from a cousin working at NewYork City Hall and gets in contact. He offers to provide the start-up fees forthe first international Ghostbusters branch. Public reactions are mixed.

Mid-2014:  five young people learn about the initiative from viewing newscoverage of the mayor’s press conference  on television or spotting an

advertisement in the newspaper. Each of them is accepted and undergobasic training as Ghostbusters. Two weeks go by without a single call…

    GLOSSARY

“ A Paranormal Taxonomy : Sl imes, Spuds , and Other Mutants ” :  a scientificdissertation written by Doctor Egon Spengler, explaining the various classes ofghosts. Utilised in training to identify ghosts based on their P.K.E. readings.

Aura video-analyser: a machine which can be used to display a subject’s emotionalstate. It consists of a headset, finger-readers and other monitoring equipment thatscan the wearer’s pulse, heartbeat, brainwave patterns and other bodily functions, and a computer monitor which constructs a digital image of any possessing entities. A laptop variant exists, which can be used for on-the-spot scans if the subject isproperly restrained or subdued.

Battery torch:  each Ghostbuster carries a standard battery torch on their belt orclipped to one of their proton pack’s shoulder straps.

Containment unit:  a large machinehousing an advanced laserconfinement grid installed at the firestation. The containment unit is whereall entities held inside ghost trapseventually end up. A viewer in thefront allows those outside to observethe vapours and spirits inside, andoften the interior dimensions of a unitresemble a bizarre alternate universe

in their own right. The unit runs onelectrical power and also includes a back-up grid in the event of a blackout, as a lossof power will cause the unit to explode, releasing its prisoners back into the world.

“Crossing the streams”:  discouragedby Doctor Egon Spengler of the NewYork City team, this refers to crossingthe proton streams emitted by the protonpacks. Allowing the streams to cross istheorised to result in “total protonicreversal,”   which will mean the

instantaneous termination of all life in the universe and every molecule in theresponsible par ty’s body exploding at the speed of light. The act of purposefullycrossing the streams has been termed the “Gozer gambit”  and has been used as alast resort on two occasions to close or destroy inter-dimensional portals. A safetygovernor in the neutrona wands will cause the equipment to shut down or hit theuser with a burst of recoil should the streams come too close to each other.

Ecto goggles:  a pair of specialised goggles, essential forhunting down invisible ghosts. The ecto goggles (also known aspara goggles) allow the wearer to track P.K.E. valences, whichare shown as glowing particles when the device is tuned to the

right frequency. They also aid in moving through low-lightenvironments via night vision mode.

ECTO-1: the team’s primary mode of transport, converted from an IVECO specialist rescuevehicle. It is painted in the traditionalGhostbusters white-and-red colour scheme,

with the organisation’s trademark “no-ghost”  symbol painted on the sides along with their‘phone number (020 7946 0962)  and websiteaddress (www.london-ghostbusters.co.uk). Thesides of the vehicle contain storage space forproton packs, slime blowers, spare traps andadditional equipment; one side incorporates aminiature laboratory for analysing specimens. There is room for three to ride at the front andany others in the back.

Ectoplasm:  also known as ghost slime orectoplasmic residue, this substance exudes

from ghosts and otherworldly beings, usually in the form of a viscous, foul-smellingsecretion, most commonly green but seen in other colours as well. Althoughpsychokinetic energy is what ghosts use to manifest themselves in the physicalworld, ectoplasm is the substance from which they are actually constructed.Ectoplasm may also be evidence of psychic or magical phenomena. Residualectoplasm can only be perceived using the ecto goggles.

    Fire station:  the London team’s

live-in headquarters, located inWoolwich. The building wascompleted in 1887 and was oneof eight historical stations closeddown by the mayor of London inrecent years. Its repurposing isone of the most frequently citedreasons for public outcry againstthe mayor’s decision-makingabilities. It includes a garage forECTO-1, sleeping quarters and

recreational facilities for the team, office space, a laboratory and

workshop, and a computerisedcontainment unit where captiveghosts are stored after they have been busted.

Geiger counter:  there are times when other forms of energy or radiation besidespsychokinetic may be present at the scene of a paranormal incident. Consisting of aportable box and a probe connected by a cable, Geiger counters can be used toread the emanations of a radioactive creature, spirit or area in order to distinguish if itis safe to approach, as well as to detect faults in the proton packs.

Ghost trap: also known as a Muon trap, used to capture andstore ghosts temporarily until they can be transferred to thecontainment unit. Once a ghost has been snared in the protonstreams, the trap can be rolled underneath the ghost andremote activated when the user depresses a pedal switch

with their foot. After a trap has closed, re-opening it willautomatically release whatever is held inside. The most important rule of trap usageis not to look into the cone of light it projects after a certain point (usually when thepull is sufficiently strong enough that the proton streams can be shut off).

“Magicians, Martyrs and Madmen”: written by Leon Zundinger, this book containsarticles on historical occult figures in far greater detail than other records.

Megaphone: allows the user to make themselves louder than anyone else presentat the scene.

“Monarchia Daemonum”:  translated into English as “The Monarchy of Demons,”  this tome on demonology describes not only various demonic figures from a numberof cultures and the respective rituals to call upon and bind them, but also describes anumber of rare accounts of views and visits to their native dimension collected fromthe journals and grimoires penned by numerous occultists. The identity of the authoris difficult to ascertain, but many of the observations are signed, “C. d. S.G.”

Operation Chronicle: a city-wide investigation conducted by the Metropolitan PoliceService into the truth behind the London Ghostbusters’ supernatural businesspractises. Det Supt. Colossus Corner leads a specially chosen task force made up ofofficers from several C.I.D. divisions. It is based out of New Scotland Yard.

P-COC:  pronounced “peacock” and short for Paranormal Contracts OversightCommission. It is not active outside the New York area and its jurisdiction does notaffect the external Ghostbusters franchises. It is, however, a constant thorn in theside of N.Y.C. headquarters, where they keep a close eye on the company’sactivities in order to gauge damages to public and private property that may becaused as a result of their investigations. Its presence is felt in their attempts toencourage the creation of other, similar committees elsewhere.

P.K.E. metre: a handheld device designed to home in on traces of

psychokinetic energy. The two winged arms mounted on either sideof the metre will rise or fall with the level of activity detected.

Gameplay:  successful Brains roll detects and measuresP.K.E. activity.

Psychokinetic energy:  an environmental by-product generated byspectral entities, P.K.E. is a form of radiation which allows ghosts to

manifest themselves on the physical plain. It is harmless to humans and is generallyincorporeal and invisible without the use of a P.K.E. metre or ecto goggles. Ghostsand other entities leave a trail of P.K.E. which allows them to be traced.

Proton pack:  a portable particle collider carried byeach member of the team, it consists of a backpacknuclear accelerator and a deployable neutrona wand

(also called a particlethrower or proton

gun) which is used tofire undulatingstreams of protonenergy in order to

weaken and capture ghosts. Proton packs have a half-life of 5,000 years, meaning they do not requireregular recharging but must be handled with care dueto their destructive and volatile nature. Knobs andswitches integrated into the pack’s main stock allowaugmentation of the stream’s intensity, length anddegree of polarisation.

Gameplay: successful Moves roll weakens a ghost. Two packs together canguide ghosts into a ghost trap’s light cone.

Slime blower: a portable tank of positively chargedpsychomagnotheric slime which is dispersed througha hose. Mood slime, when present in sufficientquantities, reacts to the negative energies of whichghosts are composed, and can forcefully eject themfrom a possessed person or object. The hose can bequickly switched to a secondary mode that launchesa slime tether, a line of thickened mood slime whichcan capture ghosts without weakening them.

Gameplay: successful Moves roll weakens a ghost possessing a person orobject, or generate a slime tether several feet in length that connects ghostsor solid objects for a limited time.

“Spates Catalogue of Nameless Horrors”:  a series of books circulated amongsubscribers to the Spates Psychical Society once a year, the Spates Cataloguecollects numerous reference materials on global events that remain unsolved due toinconclusive evidence or signs that point to possible otherworldly involvement. Eachissue includes material submitted from freelancers in the investigative community,

extensive discussions and analyses of Fortean phenomena, and dates, times andlocations of major paranormalist conferences occurring over the next twelve months.

“Tobin’s Spirit Guide” : written by John Horace Tobin, a member of London’s GhostClub in the early twentieth century, and first published by Guzman, Scott andBonterre, Ltd. The series of volumes, which are constantly being updated as theauthor’s notes are collected, re-examined and annotated by leading experts, is acompendium of supernatural phenomena throughout history. It includes extensivestudies of events, spirits, demons, gods and monsters from many cultures asexperienced by the author and his contemporaries, and proposes theories that linkcorresponding effects to a common cause. Although not a definitive source of

information on all things paranormal, it is a necessary component of any seriousparapsychologist’s library.

“Roylance Guide to Secret Societies and Sects”:  written by the investigativeteam of husband and wife Theodore and Lorelei Roylance and published by Taylor Alton Publishing, Inc., this historical book details the activities of various cults andsimilar groups throughout history, starting with informed studies of evidence from thetime of the original Gozerians (approximately 6,000 B.C.) to the late 20 TH century. It

was written in response to the works of Lawrence Pazder (of Michelle Remembers fame), Lauren Stratford and copy-cat accounts, and intends to clear up thewidespread confusion caused by them regarding certain religious groups. Itscontents include photographs of rituals and props released with the cooperation ofreal sects, as well as interviews with actual members, leaders and associates.

Walkie-talkie: each Ghostbuster carries a walkie-talkie clipped to their belts or oneof their proton pack’s shoulder straps,  which allows the team members tocommunicate with each other over short distances.

“Zap ’em, cap ’em, trap ’em”:  one of the basic tenets of the Ghostbusters

organisation, coined by New York City team founder Doctor Peter Venkman. Thiscredo describes the three stages of ghost-busting  –  “zap ’em”   with the neutronawand’s particle stream to weaken the ghost by stripping it of P.K. energy, then “ cap’em”  using the wand’s capture stream setting to hold them still while the ghost trap isdeployed, and finally “trap ’em”  with the ghost trap.

N.P.C.s are provided and played by theGhostmaster unless otherwise stated.

    Sven Robinson

     Age: 50

     Appearance:

Background: the incumbent Lord Mayor of London, the eccentric Mister Robinsonseems to spend more time playing cricket and visiting the Lake District than he doesrunning his city. A firm believer in supernatural phenomena, he came to know aboutthe exploits of the Ghostbusters from a cousin working at New York City Hall, andcontacted the company’s founders about establishing a franchise in the U.K., offeringto pay the start-up and training fees for a new team. Robinson is generally friendlytowards the team and is always willing to put up with their mishaps, and seems

genuinely well-intentioned, but his child-like behaviour often leads to his sanity beingquestioned (not to mention how he became an elected official in the first place). Hisattitude is countered by his grim, ever-present aide, Harmon Derrell.

Although very loyal to his office, hestrongly disagrees with many of Robinson’s  decisions, and especially dislikes theGhostbusters as he believes them to be part of something illicit or even dangerousthat his boss is trying to cover up. He is entirely convinced that the team are con-artists and does not believe in strange or supernatural activity. Whereas MisterRobinson is cheerful and friendly, Derrell is humourless and speaks very little, rarelylooking up from his tablet computer. Derrell is a widower, has been married twice, and has a thirteen-year-old daughter named Sarah, the one person whom heappears to care for.

Background: Bellamy’s younger brother. Æthelred encountered the same ghostlyentity as his sister at the age of ten, but whereas Aislin’s story was laughed off bytheir parents, Æthelred was sent away to a boarding school, Rattlewhip Academy. The school had previously been attended by their father, but what Æthelreddiscovered was far from the idyllic, character-building establishment he had heard of.Many of the pupils and staff came from old aristocratic families and harbouredanachronistic values, meaning that he was subjected to terrible cruelty at the handsof the older students. This hardened him in order to survive, and he eventuallyreturned to the family so he could be groomed to take over their banking empire. Hecommitted himself to tracking down his sister in order to bring her home.

    Primary Goal: reconciliation.

    Player: Brian

    Name: Lance-Corporal Richard Devson

     Age: 27

Appearance: a Caucasian male in his late-twenties, Richard is well-built. Not overlymuscular, but he's clearly gone through a good deal of physical training and keepsup with it. His hair is blonde, and often trimmed very short (practically a militarybuzz-cut). He usually has a very stern expression, and doesn’t seem to have muchof a sense of humour in those blue eyes of his. Top it all off with a preference formilitary fatigues and/or camo-patterns and you’ve got the very image of a modernsoldier trying (and struggling) to fit into civilian life.

Background: Richard always knew where he was going to wind up in life. He wasgoing to be somebody that protected people. While others with similar dreams would

probably settle for jobs as a police officer, Richard threw himself into military training, specifically the Territorial Army.

His dedication was impressive, though some felt his ambitions were a touchmisguided. Some thought that with his potential he could have a real future withOfficers training, but no. Rich wanted to be out there, hands on, working directly withthe people. He stayed a soldier through his training, climbing the ranks and reachingLance-Corporal with ease.

That’s when things took a turn for the worse.

It seemed strange to Richard that his section would be called out to settle whatsounded like a civic disturbance. Still, the disappearance of so many people aroundan abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of London apparently smelled fishy to thehigher-ups. Richard was a good soldier, so he followed orders and lead his men intothe warehouse to assess just what was going on.

To this day, he’s still not certain exactly what. The only answer he got was “nothinghuman.”  He barely managed to rescue one of the missing civilians, and it cost him amember of his team in the process. Afterward, his men and that civilian were far tooshocked by the ordeal to truly remember what they saw.

All Richard saw was proof that his life’s dream, noble as it was, was not going to beeasy to live up to. Especially with more reports of strange, occult activity flooding thecity. Everywhere Richard turned, people were scared. They were vanishing, gettinghur t, and he couldn’t do a thing to protect them…

Until the Ghostbusters Initiative was announced  –  suddenly, a new opportunitypresented itself. And as it so happened, the T.A. was chomping at the bit to makesure one of their boys was placed into the team, so it at least looked like they weredoing their jobs. Fortunately for Richard, as a Lance-Corporal, he was eligible for thespecialised training for the applicants.

Now a member of the new London branch of the Ghostbusters, Richard plans onmaking sure this team does what it’s been hired to do: protect the people from thephantoms and spooks haunting his city. And keep their superiors updated about theirprogress. After all, if nothing else, Lance-Corporal Richard Devson is a very goodsoldier.

    Primary Goal: serving humanity.

    Player: Rick

    Name: Zack Flynn

     Age: 26

     Appearance:

Background: having grown up with music older most people alive today and ahunger for fame, money and women with large bubbly posteriors, Zachary Flynn, more commonly known as Zack, or sometimes Flynn, and among the handful of fanshe had as The Second King, ended up as an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas. Itdidn't pay too much but he made enough to live comfortably and throw enough casharound to spend some time with some lovely ladies on the strip, which as he willalways remind people were dates and not hookers. Sadly for him he spent a little toomuch time with the daughter of a wealthy crime boss who had a lot of money, influence and goons with guns. Long story short he ended up having to make a runfor it, to the point where he eventually ended up in England. He went from doingshows in Vegas to shows on street corners for whatever people passing by tossedhim. He had enough left over from his time in Vegas to keep him afloat for a whilebut money was vanishing quicker than it was appearing, and things weren’t gettingany cheaper. The horrific reality of it all was he had to get a job, a normal job,

possibly one with the horrific possibility of saying “Want fries with that?” It wasterrifying, and he was sure it would be terrible until he was reading a newspaper, largely because he couldn’t pay for Wi-Fi that month, and saw an ad looking forGhostbusters, making him remember seeing a crazy man on the T.V. talking aboutGhostbusters. Now he had heard about what had gone down in New York and howapparently it was attacked by a giant marshmallow man that was defeated by agroup known as the Ghostbusters. Truth be told, he found himself not caring toomuch but he knew two things: that it was a paying job, and that it was bound toattract media attention. With that he made his decision and decided to join this teamof Ghostbusters, a fact that may horrify some.

    Primary Goal: fame.

    Player: Hikari

    Name: Aislin Bellamy

     Age: 21

     Appearance:

Background: born to the Bellamy family of Cheddar, Aislin had a comfortable earlylife on her family’s property. Her parents were often away tending to business in theU.S., so Aislin and her younger brother Æthelred were often left to their own devices, under the care of a nanny and other servants. The Somerset region where she livedhad a long and varied history, particularly in her village, which left echoes from thepast that roamed the region. This meant it wasn’t uncommon to see everything fromneolithic hunters to Roman soldiers and Saxon warriors. In order to identify andunderstand what they were witnessing, Aislin turned to history books in the family’slibrary, such as John Dee’s  Anthology of Medieval Pixies and Poltergeists. Thissparked a fascination with history that Aislin frequently hides from people.

One time when her parents were home, after a rather traumatic scare, ten-year-old Aislin ran into her mother’s room, crying and babbling about what had frightened her.

    25/30

She was told that it was good she had imagination, but that it was nothing more thana bad dream. Two years later when Æthelred reached the same age, he complainedof the same thing and their father felt it necessary to put his foot down. Æthelredreceived a very long lecture about holding up the family’s legacy while Aislin waspunished and sent to her room for “putting nonsense into his head.”  This opened a

fissure between the siblings which only widened when Æthelred was sent away to aprivate secondary school.

This was when Aislin began acting out; it started small, dying her hair in rainbowcolours, and eventually culminated in her running away at the age of nineteen. Shemade it all the way to London and found a job working in a call centre. Her boss wasa tyrant, and she kept up the work for two years before quitting in spectacularfashion. Not wanting to return to her ancestral home and admit defeat, Aislin appliedfor every single job she could find, until she found a newspaper advertisement callingto applicants for the new London Ghostbusters team.

    Primary Goal: independence.

    C.D.I. SYSTEM

CLASS I: these are undeveloped forms, insubstantial and difficult tosee. Interaction with environment is limited and enigmatic  – examples include spectral lights, voices and sounds, ectoplasmic

vapours, etc. The simple application of a proton stream is ordinarilyeffective in dispersing these phenomena.

CLASS II:  manifestations focussed in this time and space, apparitions of class II and upwards can physically manipulateobjects in our world. These forms are vague, inconsistent orincomplete  –  floating sheets, ghostly hands, animated lips, etc. Although a concentrated proton stream is normally effective, some

class II ghosts are capable of returning attacks.

CLASS III: anonymous hauntings; evidence of a distinct human formand personality, but their former identity has yet to be established. Ifthis should change, the ghost is reassigned as class IV. Often moredifficult to deal with, class III ghosts possess more sophisticated meansof self-defence.

CLASS IV: a class III ghost whose living identity has been properlyestablished. Economic disposal methods include research into the

entity’s background, as well as attempting communication with it.

CLASS V:  these are ectoplasmic manifestations of definite formwhich cannot be classified as human or animal. Speculation aboutthese bizarre entities includes the theory that class Vs are bornfrom emotionally-charged events or as the by-product of ritualisticactivities.

CLASS VI:  ghosts from lower life-forms such as animals, includingdogs, cats and in one notable case in New York Central Park, an

enormous penguin that attacked a cyclist. Unique solutions are oftenrequired to handle these entities, including research into habitats, allergies, natural enemies, behaviour, etc.

CLASS VII:  exceptionally powerful, and able to exhibit controlover subordinate forms, such entities are potentially extremelydangerous. These are often identified by older cultures asdemons or even gods. Neutralising these entities can be aproblematical undertaking at best as most standard procedureshave proven futile. The most realistic course of action is to

prevent such beings from entering this dimension in the first place.
