Greetings from GHS-IMR !

Last few months witnessed a plethora of academic and social activities in the institution. My faculty and

students have come out of their intellectual fasting and painted the town with colours across all

spectrum. On one hand we joined hand with government machinery to help them in their projects like

'Voter Awareness' and 'Vendor Development', on the other hand we conducted mammoth size

International Conference on Marketing titled 'Brandcraft- 2014'. Adding value to the institution we

signed an MOU with Shenyang Normal University, China. The Communiqué brings to you the glimpses

of our journey towards excellence.

GHS-IMR in association with HDFC Bank organized a Blood Donation Camp. Mr. R.P. Tomar , GM

Corporate HR, J.K. Cement Limited & the other dignitaries included Mr. Sajjad Hasan Rizvi , Circle

Head ,HDFC Bank, Ms. Vasudha Khemka, Branch Manager , HDFC Bank and Mr. Ajay Shanker

Dixit, President Rotary Club- North were present to boost the morale of the participants. 50

persons got registered & 28 donated the blood for the good cause. The enthusiastic participation of

girls in the camp was note worthy.

Abhivyakti, the dramatics club of GHS-IMR was recently established by students

of batch 2013-15. The inaugural meet of "Abhivyakti" was held on 28th November

2013. The meeting was attended by Mr. Amit Trivedi ( faculty in-charge of the

club) Mr. Kunwar Milind Singh, ( faculty) and the students. The club welcomed

Mrs. Rashmi Premi as subject matter expert. They developed the road map for the

future activities of the club.

Inaugural session of dramatics club “ABHIVYAKTI" December 5, 2013

A series of Personality Development Programme were conducted for

students going through placement process by faculty members and

external experts. Students were exposed to mock drill exercise on GDs

and PIs, where they answered different questions asked by recruiters.

The drill exercises were video recorded so that the same can be used for

honing the skills of participants. Students were also briefed about the

Do's and Dont's to be observed during Video-Conference-Interviews.

Knowledge related to core concepts of Retail Marketing, Functioning of

Retail Mall, Export Documentation, International Institution like WTO,

IMF and Trends in HR was also brushed. These training sessions

equipped students to acquire and sharpen skills set required by the

industry so that they can acclaim in the company of their choice.

GHS-IMR witnessed the gracious presence of His Excellency Pak Kyong Son,

Ambassador Extra Ordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People's

Republic of Korea along with his counsellor Mr. Ryang Song Guk, from the

Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. H.E. Pak Kyong Son's

interaction with faculty and students was enriching and he showed keen

interest in teaching pedagogy and library. On this occasion Prof. Harish Gupta,

Mr. Lalit Khanna and Mr. S.K. Agarwal were also present. While addressing the

students and answering their questions. They told about the culture & economy

of Korea.

To depict the creative acumen of students and to promote team building, a collage

making competition was organized for the students in which they showed keen

interest. Out of the ten teams which participated the team of Juhi & Chandni (2nd

Year) was Winner, Meghna & Yuvraj (1st year) was 1st Runner up and Abhinav &

Devjyoti (1st year) was 2nd Runner up.

GHS-IMR was graced by the presence of Mr. Anthony Phillips, founder of Medicus

Intercon Canada, the largest healthcare communications agency in Canada. He

talked about fields of Marketing, Advertising, Creative Consulting and Human

Resources Development. He stressed on ability to bring creative and viable

solutions to the issues and challenges faced by business today.

Industrial Tour for Batch 2013-2015 December 1-8, 2013Industrial Visit occupies an important part of the teaching methodology in the curriculum of management education. Students get lot of

exposure by the way of visiting different plants and factories. The eight days tour of Rajasthan was a mix of industrial cum excursion trip

where students had lot many takeaways from different perspective. The major highlight of the tour was visit to Barefoot College at Tilonia in

Kishangarh district, Rajasthan. Students learnt how the education can be disseminated at the grassroot level. The students interacted with

the trainers and the trainees. Trainees were the village women from different parts of the country having daily household income less than $1.

Although uneducated, they were able to learn the advance technologies like - solar power, water harvesting, health care facilities etc. Later

the students interacted with the foreigners in Pushkar for conducting a survey regarding their experience and interest of visiting the place.

Manufacturing Units of Mayur Suitings and Parle G were visited by the students, where they understood the production process. The

experience of visiting Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur and Amer Fort at Jaipur was cherishing. The trip was a learning experience for the students

in knowing the culture and promoting the same to the tourists in order to give the best service experience so that the tourists flock back again

and again. The overall tour was full of knowledge and fun for the budding managers.

Interaction with Mr. Jatin Pande alumnus GHS-IMRGalaxy – The Alumni association of GHS-IMR organized a Guest lecture by

one of its esteemed alumnus Mr. Jatin Pande, an alumnus of 1999 batch,

currently working as Area Sales Manager (Rural), Central & Eastern UP,

Emami Limited, Kanpur. Mr. Jatin Pande has a vast experience in FMCG

industry and achieved many laurels in this sector. He delivered a lecture on

“An insight in FMCG” in which he focused on how FMCG companies operate,

key role players, Pros and Cons of the FMCG Industry, factors which drive

growth of this sector in India. The lecture was a good source of information

for our students.

A play on nativity of Jesus Christ was held on 24thDecember, 2013 by the dramatics club

“ABHIVYAKTI” in the GHS-IMR Auditorium to celebrate the birth of Jesus and joy of

Christmas with students. Mrs. Rashmi Premi and Director Dr. Rakesh Premi encouraged

the students with their presence. The play ended with Santa Clause making an entry and

distributing sweets.

Rakesh Premi . The resource person Mr. V.K. Murti took a variety of

topics like Data File Creation, Data Cleaning through Descriptive

Statistics, Hypothesis Testing, Multiple Regression, Factor Analysis

and Structural Equation Modeling.

Promoting awareness for voting among women through a skit “Avahan” was presented

to members of Sangini club by the dramatics club of GHS-IMR. The Sangini Club has a

wide and deep reach as it is promoted by the world's largest circulated Hindi daily

"Dainik Jagran". The play was appreciated by all including the chief guest Ms. Neha

Sharma, Jt. Magistrate and SDM Sadar and Mrs. Anita Jha, General Secretary of

Merchants Chamber of UP.

GHS-IMR has always emphasized on LEARNING through practical experiments. To make students understand the importance of branding a Blind

Test was conducted. Blind test is the test related to beverages, processed food items where the company tests how their product fairs in comparison

to existing competitors.

In the first phase of the blind test three noodle brands (with their names undisclosed) was served to a sample of 100 customers. In the second phase

the three noodle brands (with names known to respondents) were served. In both the phases the respondents were asked to taste the noodles and

rate three noodles on smell, appearance & its feel in mouth. This exercise is used globally by renowned companies to test their products before the

launch.

The Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the faculty,

staff & students of GHS-IMR. Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Director GHS-

IMR addressing the gathering on Republic Day explained the

significance of Republic Day to students. A poster competition on

Theme: “Environment & its Protection” was organized. The Dramatic

Club 'Abhivakyti' presented a skit on this occasion named “Tilashma”.

The skit had a beautiful message & was enjoyed by all.

GHS-IMR was organized on the occasion of Republic day.

Director Dr. Rakesh Premi inaugurated the match by striking

the ball. The match was played very well by both the teams

showing healthy sportsmanship. Mrs. Rashmi Premi awarded

the Man of the Match to Mr. Utkarsh Pandey of student cricket

team. Winning trophy went to Alumni.

To spread awareness about hygiene and health, GHS-IMR organised a

workshop titled “Active Independence”. Dr.Unnati Kumar spoke about

mental health, stress and how to overcome it. He also addressed the

students about the various key issues like depression, stress and the myths

associated with it. Dr. A.S. Prasad, the eminent Orthopedic Surgeon,

addressed the key issues like health, hygiene, diet and significance of

exercises in our life. Dr.Kiran Pandey, the eminent Gynecologist,

enlightened all women on issues like anemia and problems related to

menstrual cycle. She also emphasized on nutrition and further added that

all nutritional plans need to be designed to suit individual goals &

requirements. The highlights of the event were free 'Bone Density

Checkup' and free 'Hemoglobin Count Test'.

Workshop on “Entrepreneurial Decision Making”A workshop on "Entrepreneurial Decision Making" was organized at GHS-IMR

campus by Syndicate Bank Entrepreneurship Research & Training Centre, IIT Kanpur

with Smart Systems and Operations Lab, IIT Kanpur. The workshop was conducted

by Prof. William Tracy and Prof. Dmitri Markovitch of Rensselaer Lally School of

Management & Technology (RPI), US and Mr. Sanjeev Newar, associated with

SBERTC, IIT Kanpur, India. They used Strategic Innovation Game (SIG) developed by

faculties from RPI, US and IIT, Kanpur. The game had an easy interface along with

highly complex AI algorithm based engine running at the back-end. This helped in

enhancing the entrepreneurial skill of the students.

5th February, 2014Basant Panchami PoojaGHS-IMR believes in the very roots of our rich Indian culture. The faculty, staff

and students celebrated 'Basant Panchami Pooja' and also performed 'Maa

Saraswati Pujan' with traditional rituals. The 'Puja' was started by Dr. (Prof.)

Rakesh Premi, Director and Mrs. Rashmi Premi. This was followed by 'hawan'

where everyone offered 'ahuti'. The chants of 'Mantras' and 'Arti' made the

environment very serene and spiritual. Delicious Ladoos & fruit 'prasad' was

distributed among all devotees.

Institute participated in National Vendor Development Program & Industrial Exhibition at MSME, Fazal Ganj Industrial Area, Kanpur. Dr. Rakesh

Premi, Director of the Institute was felicitated by MSME, Kanpur. The faculty members Kunwar Milind Singh and Dr. Sunil Shukla delivered lectures

on Export Development and Time Management respectively. The students of the institute volunteered and helped MSME in organising the event.

National Vendor Development Program & Industrial Exhibition 8-9th February, 2014

Students got an exposure on Team Building, Quick Decision Making and Strategy

Formulation by the management game “Tic Tac Toe”, which was organized by the

students of HR Club. The students had fun filled moments along with learning of

management lesson through management game. Among the 36 students who

played the game, the team of Ajay, Arpita and Meghna from first year was the

winner.

“Brandcraft 2014”- International Conference on Branding 15-16th February, 2014

GHS-IMR hosted a two day International conference BrandCraft-2014 on 15th Feb. & 16th Feb., 2014. “BrandCraft- Bullock Cart to BMW” the

theme for this conference was very appropriate as it personified the evolutionary process of Branding. The first International conference on

Marketing, BrandCraft focused on the challenges brands are facing, and how organizations can build, protect and grow their brands in the face of

such multifarious environment.

The day started with the Inaugural ceremony followed by the most awaited address by Mr. Harish Bijoor. Mr. Bijoor is the Brand Expert & CEO,

Harish Bijoor Consults Inc. He has authored a book titled, “Marketing Trends – Smart Insights into the world of Indian Business". In his insightful

address Mr. Bijoor deliberated on 'Brand as Science, Art and Philosophy'. In the latter part of his address he talked about the resurrection of the

Brand Mascots and some exciting promotions.The session of Harish Bijoor was followed by Dr. Bennett E. McClellan. Currently Dr. Bennett is

Professor and Vice Dean at Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Founder, CXOSuiteCoach.com and CSOSuiteCoach. Asia , helping senior executives

throughout Asia get ahead.

The magic begins –“Kesariya Balam... Padharo Maaro Des”. Mesmerising performance by Mame Khanji and group Prof (Dr.)Rakesh Premi presenting a memento to Mame Khan

Dr. Shekhar Trivedi, Professor Marketing, GHS-IMR wrote a

novel on sales by the name – Target Busters. The novel was

released in International Book Fair at Pragati Maidan. It was a

moment of great pride for the institute. 'Target Busters' is an

attempt by Shekhar Trivedi to provide a rare insight of practical

sales through the first hand experiences, stories, anecdotes of

salespeople from across different types of industries. The book

is of immense use to - Marketing and Sales professionals of

India who want to be aware about the vivacity and facets of

sales in different types of industries.

First Plenary session was “Branding in Healthcare” by Mr. Srivathsan Aparajithan. He addressed the audience through a virtual presentation via

WebEx. Mr. Srivathsan is currently the CEO-Primary Healthcare Services in Vidal Healthcare, Bengaluru. Second plenary session was based on

“Upcoming BrandCraft Strategies” by Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Director GHS-IMR. Third plenary session “Managing Celebrity Endorsements”

was taken by Mr. Ram Mehrotra. He is currently serving as GM-Marketing in Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd. Fourth Plenary session on “Managing

the launch of New Molecules”was conducted by Mr. Gaurav Jain .He addressed the audience through video conferencing. Mr. Jain is currently

working as Country Head in Zydus Healthcare, South Africa. Fifth plenary session was on “Individual as a Brand” by Mr. Manoj Sharma-Sales

Head-North India, Wallace Pharma. Chief Guest for Valediction ceremony was Mr. Akash Goenka, Director-Goldiee Group, Guest of Honour was

Mr. A.K. Singh, Dy. Zonal General Manager, U.P. Region of National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. The Key-note speaker for the ceremony

was Mr. Nitin Makdani- Business Head of HS Ad India (also known as LG Ad). He addressed the audience on a very contemporary topic “Branding

in the Digital Age”. The program received an overwhelming response from the industry and academia. It had more than 46 participants from more

than 8 international and national cities like Jeddah-Saudi Arabia, Greater Noida, Allahabad, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Kanpur.

Cultural Extravaganza performed by Shri Mame Khan 15th February, 2014The greatest buzz in the city was created by the stupendous performance by Shri Mame Khan, the Sufi singer. Event was the highlight of BrandCraft

-2014. The Classical vocalist rocked the night with his mesmerizing Rajasthani folk songs. Famous Songs from Sufi poets of Sindh and Rajasthan,

including Mira Bai, Kabir, Lal Shahbâz Qalandar, Bulleh Shah and Baba Ghulam Farid were sung by Mame Khan with élan and joy. The melodies

made the night a memorable event in the minds and hearts of all present and in the pages of history of GHS-IMR.

To prepare students to face the vagaries of practical world, 'Daily Life Skills Programme' was conceptualized by Dr. Shekhar Trivedi. Activities

involved learning Photocopying, Faxing, Scanning, Setting up Multi-Media arrangement, Conducting Webinar through U-Stream, Hands-on

Cooking, Basics of car maintenance providing the daily skills required to survive and have an edge in the corporate world. The most distinctive 0event was “Tyre changing competition” for girls. All activities made the GHS-IMR students 360 Experts. This is probably first initiative of its type,

taken by any MBA Institute in India.

GHS-IMR bid adieu to the Batch 2012-14 with heavy hearts but taking pride in

the fact that all the students were moving ahead on their career path. The juniors

give a hearty welcome to their seniors & each senior was presented with a title. A

wonderful skit & an energetic Punjabi dance was performed by the juniors and

then seniors and juniors had the great time with all the fun and frolic on Dance

floor and with a sumptuous Dinner. The Director wished senior students good

luck and titled them as Brand Ambassadors of GHS-IMR.
