GHS and OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard

June 1, 2015Chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors, and employers must have new format Safety Data Sheets and Labels in place. (Distributors may not ship without new labels after December 1, 2015.)

June 1, 2016Update workplace labeling and hazard communication program as necessary, and train employees on newly-identi�ed hazards.

OSHA has aligned its required Hazard Communication Standard with the UN’s Globally Harmonized System (GHS), in an e�ort to create a universally understandable method for communicating hazard warnings. This will a�ect the documentation and labeling of substances found in the workplace, and the training of workers to understand these new formats. Over the next two years, employers will need to comply with deadlines for implementing changes in their chemical handling programs.

DANGER!HAZARD STATEMENT:Keep locked up. Keep container dry. Do not ingest. Do not breathe gas/fumes/ vapor/spray. Never add water to this product. Keep away fromincompatibles such as oxidizing agents, reducing agents, combustible materials, organic materials, metals, acids, alkalis, moisture. May corrodemetallic surfaces. Store in a metallic or coated fiberboard drum using a strong polyethylene inner package.

Will react with water or steam to produce toxic and corrosive fumes. Reacts with carbonates to generate carbon dioxide gas. Reacts with cyanidesand sulfides to form poisonous hydrogen cyanide and hydrogen sulfide respectively.

PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENT:AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES. Very hazardous in case of skin contact, of eye contact, of ingestion, of inhalation. Liquid or spray mist mayproduce tissue damage particularly on mucous membranes. Skin contact may produce burns. Inhalation of the spray mist may produce severeirritation of respiratory tract. Severe over-exposure can result in death.

The substance may be toxic to kidneys, lungs, heart, cardiovascular system, upper respiratory tract, eyes, teeth. Repeated or prolonged exposureto the substance may produce general deterioration of health by an accumulation in one or many human organs.

FIRST AID INFORMATION:In the event of any personal contact, seek medical attention immediately. Flush with water. If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If ingested, do notinduce vomiting.
