Cari lettori, vi ho rac-contanto alcune storie di un piccolo paese chiamato Set-tefrati. Un paesino di montagna spopolato dall’emigrazione del dopo guerra. All’epoca contava circa tremila anime, ora ap-pena cinquecento. Settefrati ha figli sparsi in remoti angoli del mondo. Un paese cambiato, ma non tanto, da quel che lasciam-mo tanti anni fa. Era un paese di contadini, gente semplice, primi-tiva che resisteva ai cambia-

Poi dopo l’emigrazione sia interna che esterna, i giovani rimasti si guardarono attorno e videro che il paese ancora non offriva un futuro sicuro per chi desiderava formare famiglia. Come i loro padri e nonni prima di loro cercarono un futuro migliore lontano all'estero e in altri paesi e citta` italiane. Altri frequentarono scuole superiori e college, trovarono lavoro in aziende ed uffici. Il terreno si lavorava sempre meno lasciando

interi campi incolti. Gli emi-grati ,dopo tanti anni di assenza cominciarono a tornare per “la festa” : “La Festa” famosa celebrazione annuale dedicata alla Madonna di Canneto.I fes-teggiamenti sono quelli che ho cercato di descrivere dal punto di vista di un emigrata che, anziana adesso, ritorna come tanti altri emigrati, per rivedere il paese natio, i parenti e amici che lasciarono tanto tempo fa e respirare l’aria pura dei monti e bere l’acqua pura e fredda della sorgente del fiume Melfa. Ma soprattutto ritornano ad Agosto per celebrare il culto della Ma-donna di Canneto, un culto che dura da centinaia di anni che noi abbiamo portato nei nostri nuovi Paesi. La fede per la Madonna Bruna e` vera e` profonda e ci ri-unisce ancora nel piccolo paese ove in estate son rappresentati numerose Nazioni e Paesi vicini e d’oltremare . Tra pochi giorni verso il principio di Settembre ci prepariamo a ritornare Nelle Nazioni dove abbiamo vissuta una vita. Come sempre, andiamo a dare l’ultimo saluto alla Ma-donna nostra. Diciamo sempre “chissa` se ci rivediamo l’anno che viene?” e poi “riportaci ancora una volta a rivederti” Parliamo alla Statua come se fosse una vecchia amica. Le chiediamo di ac-compagnarci all’aereo fino a casa. La Madonna tace, non dice niente ma sappiamo che Ci ha ascoltati. Delia Socci Skidmore

“CRAZY” TO THINK BERLUSCONI BEHIND ANTI-FINI “DOSSIERS”

Rome - It is "crazy and laughable" to think that Premier Silvio Berlusconi could be behind a campaign of allegedly souped-up dossiers published by the pro-Berlusconi press against House Speaker and ally-turned-foe Gianfranco Fini, Berlusconi's lawyer Nic-colo' Ghedini said Friday. Ghedini said claims by Fini loyalists that the premier commissioned a dossier about a Monte Carlo real-estate deal Fini is accused of lying about were "unfounded and defama-tory". But the lawyer admit-ted that a businessman and publisher close to Berlusconi, Walter Lavitola, may on his own initiative have uncovered alleged secrets about the deal, involving Fini's brother-in-law Giancarlo Tulliani, in the Caribbean tax haven of Saint Lucia, "working in full autono-my". The results of Lavi-tola's probing was splashed across the front page of Il Giornale, owned by Berlusco-ni's brother, on Thursday: a document purporting to show that Tulliani was the owner of the Monte Carlo house and therefore Fini had lied about the property, which previously belonged to the Speaker's old 'post-fascist' party, National Al-liance. On Friday Saint Lu-cia's justice minister, Rudolph Francis, said that a letter published in a Santo Domingo newspaper confirming Tulliani owned the house was not a fabrication. Francis was set to speak Friday evening on the deal. Lavitola has denied any involvement in the case, as have the Italian secret services. The 'Monte Carlo House' af-fair has claimed headlines for almost two months, ever since Fini broke with Berlusconi and set up his own Future and Freedom for Italy (FLI) group which deprives the government of a House majority. FINI TO GIVE VER-SION SATURDAY. Fini has been spare in his comments on the case and insisted that a judicial probe will vindicate his statements, although there has been no sug-gestion he broke the law. But on Friday he said he would give his version of events in a Web message Satur-

day. The "truth" about the Monte Carlo house will be posted on the website of his 'Generazione Italia' thinktank and the site of party newspaper Il Secolo d'Italia. Sources close to the Speaker said he would supply "all the answers" to what he saw as a campaign of character assassination.

Fini had decided to wait for a judicial probe to vindicate his assertion that he has always told the truth about the affair but the latest brouhaha has persuaded him to put an end to the affair, the sources said. Fini voiced fresh sup-port for the government Friday, saying Berlusconi had "the right to govern," but stressed the premier was not entitled to impunity from criminal trials. Friday also saw a change at the top of Il Giornale as editor Vittorio Feltri moved upstairs to editorial director and was replaced by his former assistant Alessandro Sallusti. Sallusti claimed the move had been in the pipeline and had nothing to do with the latest row. Analysts have said the campaign was aimed at under-mining Fini's credibility and goading him into voting against Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party in a key House mo-tion on a revamped government platform next Wednesday. But while they have denounced the alleged 'dossier', the FLI are still insisting they will back the government, at least on the policy platform. However, they have stopped working with the PdL on a new Constitutional shield for the premier against two trials, aimed at replacing a pre-vious one struck down by the Constitutional Court. Berlusco-ni has meanwhile been busy, according to media reports, wooing enough centrists to his cause to do without the FLI. The premier is said not to want an election now but his key ally, the Northern League, thinks a snap vote would be better than trying to struggle along with a wafer-thin major-ity. If the government falls, the centre-left opposition would like to see a brief 'technical' government tasked with re-forming the electoral law ahead of a general election next year.

A palazzo Grazioli il vertice del Pdl in vista del discorso che il Presidente del Consiglio, Silvio Berlusconi, terrà alla camera dei deputati. Alla riunione sono presenti i 3 coordinatori nazionali del partito Ignazio La Russa, Sandro Bondi e Denis Verdini. All'incontro partecipano i presidenti dei gruppi al senato e alla camera Fabrizio Cicchitto e Maurizio Gasparri con il vice Gaetano Quagliariello. Tra i ministri sono presenti il responsabile dell'Economia Giulio Tremonti, quello degli Esteri Franco Fratti-ni, e il titolare del dicastero della Giustiza Angelino Alfano, oltre al deputato Niccolò Ghedini. 19.00 - Si terra' domani alle ore 19 la votazione sulla fiducia che il governo pone sulle comunica-zioni del presidente del Consiglio Silvio Berlusconi. BERLUSCONI, FI-DUCIA E' SCELTA DI CHIAR-EZZA - In questa fase si deve fare una scelta di chiarezza che supera la necessita' di avere ampi numeri in Parlamento. FIAT CEO SAYS RESULTS ARE WHAT COUNTMARCHIONNE SEES NEW ERA FOR ITALIAN INDUSTRY

Rome - Fiat CEO Ser-gio Marchionne said on Mon-day that he was not interested in the formulas or formats used to strike agreements to boost productivity, only in the results they produced. Speaking on the sidelines of a convention of the National Automobile Industry Association (Anfia), Marchionne said "what is paramount for me is running our plants in Italy, updating production means so they are more competitive and elimi-nating the handicap which has historically seen us lag behind the others". "How this is done doesn't interest me. All I want to see are results. Details are not important, what is impor-tant is working on a plan and finding any solution which will work," he added. In his address to the Anfia meeting, Marchionne spoke at length on his move this past summer to opt out of a national contract and strike a factory-level accord to boost production at a key Fiat plant in Italy. This was done by creating a new company, one which did not sign the na-tional contract, to run the plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, near Naples. Although the move was opposed by Italy's big-gest autoworkers union, Fiom, it was accepted by the other unions and even FIOM's parent union, CGIL, did not openly reject it. According to Mar-chionne, this approach could represent a turning point for Italian industry, but the CEO made it clear that Fiat was interested in helping Italy, not its politicians. "A showdown is tak-ing place in the automobile sector on a global level. And even in Italy we have reached a turning point," the CEO told the meeting. "Fiat can give the Italian automobile industry and the hundreds of thousands of people who, directly or in-directly, depend on it a better future. Fiat should be used for this and this alone. It must not be abused for political gain," he added. Marchionne also stressed the need for industry to have "the right leaders" to lead it into the future. "In every organiza-tion the right people, the right leaders, are much more important than following procedures. And by the 'right leaders' I mean people who challenge the obvious, strike

new paths and break away from the old way of doing things," he explained. "I am talking about men and women who under-stand the concept of service, of community and who have respect for others. Reliable people who maintain the promises they make and do not make promises they can-not maintain. These are the type of people who are run-

In his address, the CEO denied reports that Ger-many's Daimler, the Mercedes parent company, had made an offer for Fiat's bus and truck division, set to be spun off as Fiat Industrial, and said there was nothing new on the ho-rizon in regard to a timetable to list Ferrari on the stock market.

Su Facebook si costi-tuisce immediatamente il gruppo 'Roma querela Bossi' e Gianni Alemanno scrive al premier per stigmatizzare l'uscita del leader leghista che, en passant, se la prende anche con l'ipotesi che il Gran premio di Formula Uno si sposti nella capitale perché "lì corrono sulle bighe". Non solo. Dopo una giornata di critiche, il Senatur rincara la dose: "La mia era una battuta - dice - ma dalle reazioni che vedo in queste ore mi viene da pensare che a Roma si sentano in colpa". In ogni caso, attacca, dopo che "ci hanno por-tato via l'aeroporto di Malpensa e adesso vogliono prenderci anche il Gran Premio di Monza" con "il Giro d'Italia che non arriva più a Milano" e le Olimpiadi che non toccheranno Venezia "si capisce che il nord non può amare Roma". Comunque, "tutti sanno che io non ce l'ho mai avuta con il popolo romano, ma ce l'ho con Roma apparato che ruba la libertà e la ricchezza a chi la pro-duce". Basta insulti, è l'appello che arriva da tutta l'opposizione. Il Pd prepara una mozione di sfiducia individuale a Bossi come ministro, mentre l'Italia dei Valori scrive una lettera aperta al presidente della Repubblica chiedendogli di intervenire con-tro il "vilipendio" della Capitale e annuncia sostegno politico alla mozione di sfiducia del Pd. A prendere posizione a nome del governo è il ministro degli Esteri Franco Frattini, che, dopo aver parlato con Berlusconi attacca: "questa volta l'ha fatta grossa". Bossi "va invitato ami-chevolmente a smettere", dice anche il ministro della Difesa Ignazio La Russa. Mentre Fli chiede direttamente al presi-dente del Consiglio di prendere posizione e starebbe valutando la possibilità di votare contro il leader del Carroccio . "Mi auguro che Berlusconi intervenga - dice il capogruppo alla Camera Italo Bocchino - per smentire quanto ha detto Bossi. Se é un atto di folclore lo derubrichiamo al fol-clore della politica ma se Bossi lo pensa veramente non può fare il ministro delle Riforme, perché lo fa per l'Italia e non per la Padania". Dai Radicali scatta la raccolta di firme per querelarlo mentre i Verdi mettono in pista addirittura una 'class action' per un risarcimento collettivo dei cittadini romani e il Codacons annuncia un esposto alla pro-cura di Milano. A querelare é anche l'associazione forense 'Avvocati&Avvocati' mentre i giovani del Pdl inviano al ministro un libro con la storia di Roma. Ma, nel giorno del com-pleanno del capitano della Roma, Francesco Totti, le critiche arriv-ano anche dal mondo dello sport e della cultura. "Che politici sono - dice in romano l'ex allenatore della Roma Carlo Mazzone - se è questo l'esempio che danno? Non me fate arrabbià...". Mentre Re-nato Zero taglia corto invitando il Senatur a "guardarsi allo spec-chio". La Uil di Roma, infine, replicherà a Bossi 'alla romana', con una serenata il 4 ottobre a piazza Pasquino, sotto una delle statue simbolo della città.

Pompeii - Visitors to Pompeii will be encouraged to experience the eruption of Vesuvius more intensely this Saturday, with a one-off op-portunity to explore an ancient house through touch, sound and smell only. Visitors entering the House of Julius Polybius will be blindfolded and led through the famous building by special-ist guides from the Italian Union of the Blind. The hour-long tour will seek to recreate the final moments of those living there through senses other than sight. The roar of the eruption of Mt Vesuvius, the screech of the wind, the howls and cries of animals and the voice of Julius Polybius will accompany visitors making their way through the building. The scents of bergamot and juniper, which once grew in abundance in the complex's inner garden, will permeate the house, while reconstructions of utensils and furniture found by archae-ologists will be scattered around for visitors to explore through touch. The special event at the House of Julius Polybius comes just months after the building reopened to the pub-lic this year following months of work designed to create an all-encompassing experience for visitors. Part of a major overhaul at the renowned archaeological site, the reconstruction features Pompeii's first multimedia three-dimensional installation, as well as restored gardens and interiors. Visitors are now welcomed at the entrance to the house by a hologram of the house's owner, Julius Pobylius. The appearance of the wealthy freedman was reconstructed using scientific studies based on remains found at the site. Polybius's voice ac-companies visitors in the most important rooms of his house, through to the final spot where he, his household and family took refuge at the time of the eruption. The remains uncovered here by archaeologists included those of a pregnant young wom-an, who has also been restored to life in hologramatic form. The hour-long visit educates visitors about the building's architecture,

TUMORI: GLI OTTO CAMPANELLI D'ALLARME

MILANO - È stata stila-ta da un gruppo di ricerca inglese la lista degli otto sintomi che più di altri possono segnalare la presenza di un tumore, in assenza di altre spiegazioni plausibili. Si tratta di: - sangue nelle urine, - anemia, - sangue dal retto, - tosse con perdita di sangue, - un nodulo al seno, - deglutizione difficoltosa, - sanguinamenti in post-meno-pausa - risultato anomalo di un esame prostatico. Sono evenienze tutt'altro che rare e indicano perlopiù problemi non necessari-amente oncologici, però, secondo quanto appurato dagli autori, almeno in un caso su 20 si rive-lano essere sintomi di un cancro e sono un fondato motivo per riv-olgersi subito a un medico e fare al più presto esami chiarificatori. LO STUDIO - Gli autori dell'analisi sono ricercatori della Keele University e i loro risultati sono apparsi sulla rivista dei medici di medicina generale britannici (il British Journal of General Practice). Per arrivare a identificare le otto «sentinelle» (red flag, bandierine rosse) hanno esaminato 25 studi internazi-onali, setacciando fra i molteplici

sintomi oncologici quelli che più spesso si dimostravano rivelatori di un cancro. Fra tutti, hanno isolato quelli che danno una o più possibilità su 20 di essere segnale di un tumore, specifican-do anche per quali tipologie di pazienti e per quali fasce d'età il rischio è più o meno verosimile. ETÀ DIVERSE, PRO-FILI DIVERSI - Per i più gio-vani, al di sotto dei 55 anni, due sono le anomalie che rientrano nella categoria "allarme rosso": un nodulo o una massa alla mam-mella e l'esito di un esame rettale della prostata. Per i maschi al di là dei 55 anni, particolare attenzione meritano i problemi a deglutire, che possono rivelare un tumore dell'esofago, men-tre per le donne sopra i 60 è il sangue nelle urine a richiedere con urgenza accertamenti per la vescica. Allo stesso modo, spie-gano in un editoriale sulla rivista, uno stato di forte anemia in un sessantenne può essere il primo segno di un tumore intestinale, mentre è ben più improbabile che lo sia in una ventenne. I SINTOMI? “SONO BEN DI PIÙ” - Il Royal College of General Practitioners ha com-mentato positivamente il lavoro, “che rafforza la necessità di incoraggiare i pazienti a rivolg-

FESTEGGIAMENTI IN ONORE DI S.PIO DA PIETRELCINA 2010

Le Societa’ Solofrana S. Michele Arcangelo ed Amici Inc., la Societa’ Filgi di Castello del Matese e la Societa’ Maria S.S. di Montevergine hanno festeggiato S. Pio da Pietrelcina presso la Chiesa del Monte Carmelo nel Bronx. La celebrazione e’ incominciata alle ore 8 del mattino con una S. Messa in onore del Santo, a mezzogiorno e’ seguito il Santo Rosario e alla sera, con inizio alle ore 6:30, sono cominciati i solenni festeggiamenti con il Santo Rosario meditato da Padre Eric Rapaglia, seguito dalla concelebrazione Eucaristica e subito dopo si e’ svolta la processione con la Statua di S. Pio per le strade di Belmont. La statua di S. Pio e’ stata donata alla Federazione delle Associazioni della Campania USA dalla Provincia di Benevento su interessamento dell’allora Presidente Carmine Nardone , a cui vanno i nostri ringraziamenti per il magnifico dono. La statua e’ giunta a New York nel 2005 e da allora e’ in Pellegrinaggio per gli Stati di New York, New Jersey, Pensylvania, Connecticut . La statua di S. Pio e’ stata chiamata : la statua Pellegrina, in quanto gira tutte le parrochie o Societa’ che aderiscono alla Federazione facendone richiesta presso l’ufficio del Presidente della Federazione. MONTECARLO - La Tûranor PlanetSolar, la più grande nave a energia solare, è salpata il 27 settembre dal porto di Mon-tecarlo. Il catamarano, che batte bandiera svizzera, effettuerà la prima circumnavigazione del pianeta con il solo uso dell'energia solare. La scopo della missione è quello di acquisire e migliorare le conoscenze nell'ambito della mobilità solare e del suo sviluppo. OTTO MESI - L’imbarcazione è lunga 31 metri, larga 15 e con una superficie totale di pannelli fotovoltaici di 537 metri quadrati. Il giro del mondo durerà

circa otto mesi, toccando le coste orientali e occidentali del Nord America, oltre che Cancun (Mes-sico) durante la conferenza mondi-ale sul clima, Sydney, Singapore e gli Emirati Arabi Uniti. Il fondatore del progetto, Raphaël Domjan, 37 anni, fa parte dell’equipaggio, composto da sei persone. La prima tappa è la traversata dell’Atlantico, con meta finale Miami. Il catama-rano è stato costruito dai cantieri navali di Kiel, in Germania ed è capace di raggiungere una velocità di 14 nodi. Il nome Tûranor deriva dal Signore degli anelli di Tolkien e significa “Il potere del Sole”.

ROMA - Gli scienziati della fusione nucleare stanno per imprimere un colpo di accel-eratore ai loro esperimenti e si pongono un ambizioso traguar-do: dimostrare entro il 2026 che i processi energetici del Sole e delle stelle potranno essere utiliz-zati sulla Terra per alimentare i crescenti bisogni di energia delle nostre società. Francesco Romanelli Il nuovo impegno, e le tappe per raggiungerlo, ci vengono illustrati dal professor Fran-cesco Romanelli, da quest’anno direttore dell’European Fu-sion Development Agreement (EFDA), il programma comu-nitario che coordina i laboratori europei impegnati in studi teorici e sperimentali sulla fusione nucleare. Romanelli, che dirige anche il Joint European Tokamak (JET), attualmente la maggiore macchina per esperimenti sulla fusione, collocata a Culham, in Inghilterra, in questi giorni è fra i protagonisti di Frascati Sci-enza, un vero e proprio festival che vede sfilare per una setti-mana, dal 18 al 26 settembre, i grandi protagonisti della scienza nazionale e internazionale, con un fitto programma di confer-enze, mostre e visite guidate ai laboratori sparsi nella vasta area scientifica a sud di Roma. “Ce la stiamo mettendo tutta per accelerare i nostri pro-grammi e consegnare al mondo

entro una decina di anni ITER, il reattore che dovrà dimostrare la fattibilità scientifica della fusione nucleare, aprendo la strada ad altri impianti che sfrutteranno la stessa tecnologia per produrre energia elettrica da immettere nella rete”, annuncia Romanelli. ITER, la cui costruzi-one è già iniziata a Cadarache, in Francia, è un progetto inter-nazionale sottoscritto da Europa, Stati Uniti, Cina, Russia, India, Giappone e Corea del Sud. Quest’anno, dopo una pausa di riflessione dovuta al fatto che i suoi costi di realizzazione sono lievitati, passando da 5 a 10 mil-iardi di euro, di cui circa la metà a carico dell’Europa (e circa 600 milioni in capo all’Italia), i promotori si sono impegnati a superare gli indugi e ad andare avanti con maggior lena, nella speranza di fornire entro questo secolo un valida soluzione dei problemi energetici planetari, con una fonte di energia pratica-mente illimitata e relativamente pulita. La fusione, infatti, sfrut-ta l’enorme energia che si libera quando nuclei di atomi leggeris-simi come il deuterio e il trizio (parenti stretti dell’idrogeno), sottoposti ad elevate temperature, fondono. Il processo, pur essendo accompagnato da una consis-tente attivazione neutronica dei materiali del reattore, tuttavia non produce rifiuti radioattivi di lunghissima vita (decine di migliaia di anni) tipici degli attuali reattori a fissione nucle-are. ITER, spiega il professor Romanelli, si basa sul cosiddetto, “confinamento magnetico” già sperimentato da diverse mac-chine di piccole e medie dimen-sioni in vari Paesi, fra cui l’Italia. Una miscela di deuterio e trizio, destinata a essere riscaldata fino a diventare un “plasma” a 100 milioni di gradi, è ingabbiata in

CARAVAGGIO CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE IN

TUSCANY

Florence - The focus of Italian festivities marking 400 years since Caravaggio's death has shifted to Tuscany but Rome, Rimini and Milan also have events lined up for coming months. Florence is hosting two exhibitions devoted to the art of Caravaggio, while the small coastal town of Porto Ercole is running a small show looking at the man behind the work. The first Florence exhibition, divided between two of the city's most prestigious gal-leries, brings together over 100 masterpieces by Caravaggio and other artists who followed in his footsteps. Pride of place goes to six celebrated paintings belong-ing to the two galleries' own collections, the best known of which are probably Medusa and Bacchus. The exhibition runs in the Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi until October 17, as does the second Florence show at Villa Bardini. This offers an equally striking but much smaller exhibition of the master's works collected by 20th-century art his-torian and top Caravaggio expert Roberto Longhi. Forte Stella in Porto Ercole, the town where Cara-vaggio died and was buried in around mid-July 1610, maps out the main stages in the master's life and gives visitors the first ever chance to view his remains. Following a six-month investiga-tion, medical anthropologists in June confirmed they had identi-fied Caravaggio's bones to an 85% probability, laying to rest a 400-year-old mystery surround-ing his final resting place. Basing their research on the most widely accepted of eight theories about his resting place, anthropologists exhumed around 30-40 sets of bones last December. Those belonging to young men that appeared to have died in the 17th century were first subjected to carbon-dating to confirm their age and compatible fragments were then tested for high concentrations of lead and mercury, metals once common in paint.

The final step was DNA test-ing, comparing extracts from the bones with male volunteers surnamed Merisi, believed to

Poiché nessun conteni-tore metallico potrebbe resistere, il plasma è tenuto sospeso e stret-to in un intenso campo magneti-co, generato da potenti bobine, in modo da minimizzare il contatto con le pareti della ciambella. Romanelli riassume così la cronologia dei prevedibili risultati, ormai a portata di mano: “Il reattore ITER dovrebbe es-sere completato entro il 2019, quindi iniziare a funzionare, per alcuni anni, con il solo idrogeno, però senza produrre energia di fusione. Nel 2026 sarà intro-dotta la più efficiente miscela di deuterio-trizio e, l’anno dopo, dovrebbe essere raggiunto il fondamentale traguardo di ot-tenere 500 megawatt di potenza, cioè dieci volte più energia di quella impiegata per sostenere il processo di fusione che si auto sostiene. Ma non è finita. Il passaggio da ITER a reattori dimostrativi in grado di fornire elettricità, che saranno realizzati parallelamente in diversi Paesi, potrà avvenire rapidamente se la ricerca su ITER avrà, come cre-diamo, successo e si investiranno

sufficienti risorse nello sviluppo dei materiali per il reattore”. Questi risultati, aggi-unge lo scienziato, saranno anche il frutto di numerosi esperimenti «di accompagnamento» da at-tuare in diversi laboratori. La macchina JET, per esempio, che si è già avvicinata alle condizioni di pareggio di potenza, dovrà ripetere nel 2014 questa perfor-mance, utilizzando nella camera di contenimento del plasma dei materiali di berillio-tungsteno che poi verranno utilizzati in ITER. Anche in Italia, nei labora-tori ENEA di Frascati, è prevista la costruzione di un tokamak che dovrà esplorare il comporta-mento del plasma in condizioni estreme. “Sono fiducioso che, poco dopo la metà del nostro secolo, la prospettiva dell’energia da fusione diventerà percorribile, naturalmente se i governi con-tinueranno a sostenerci con con-vinzione –conclude Romanelli–. Basti pensare che il mercato eu-ropeo dell’energia assorbe oggi 700 miliardi di euro all’anno. Mentre alla ricerca energetica, di qualunque tipo, vengono destinati solo 2 miliardi di euro all’anno. Una cifra ben modesta se si considera l’importanza strategica del settore”.

POLLO DEL FATTORE -THE FARMER’S CHICKEN

INGREDIENTI 1 pollo nostrano da 1,5 kg circa

100 gr. di olio extravergine di oliva1/2 cipolla di media grandezza

3 peperoni carnosi: (uno rosso, uno giallo, uno verde)100 gr di besciamella

brodo di pollosale e pepe nero macinato al momento

INGREDIENTS 1 local chicken (about 3.3 lbs)

3.5 oz extra virgin olive oil1/2 medium sized onion

3 peppers: (1 red, 1 yellow, 1 green)3.5 oz besciamella (bechamel)

chicken stocksalt and freshly ground black pepper

INGREDIENTS FOR THE BESCIAMELLA SAUCE: Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Take off the heat and add flour, sifted, so it is finer and more easily absorbed and blended, a

bit at a time and stir until smooth. Place back on the stove and cook together for two to three minutes, stirring continuously so it will not stick to the bottom. Stop cooking if it starts to

get color. On another saucepan heat the milk but make sure it doesn’t boil, and when it is hot add it to the butter and flour mix, blending all together with a wooden spoon and keep on

cooking on low flame till the sauce starts boiling. Add salt and nutmeg to taste. Cover and keep on simmer for about 15 minutes stirring once in a while so it doesn’t stick. Turn the heat off and let it stand another 15 minutes before using. It

becomes firmer as it cools.PREPARAZIONE

Liberare il pollo dalla carcassa, dividendolo in 8 parti, infar-inare con farina del tipo 00, portare l’olio d’oliva sul fuoco

allegro, quindi far rosolare il pollo per circa 6 minuti. Bagnare con un bicchiere di vino bianco secco, attendere che il vino si riduca ed aggiungere i peperoni e la cipolla tagliata a striscio-

line, pepare e salare leggermente. Infornare a 200 gradi sul termostato per circa 35-40 minuti e bagnare di tanto in tanto con mestolini di brodo di pollo. A cottura ultimata, togliere il pollo per un momento e legare con la besciamella la salsa di

cottura.Servire in piatti molto caldi.PREPARATION

Cut the chicken from the carcass and divide into 8 pieces. Flour each piece and fry in oil for about 6 minutes. Pour in a glass of dry white wine, let it evaporate, add the finely sliced peppers and onion, salt and pepper and put in a high oven

200° C (392° F) for 35 to 40 minutes; every now and then pour on a ladle of chicken stock. Once cooked add the besciamella

to the cooking sauce.

The Tuscany events will be followed by three exhibitions in autumn, starting on October 23, in Rimini's Castel Sismondo, with works on loan from the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hart-ford, Connecticut 'Caravaggio and other 17th-Century Painters' will showcase 16 masterpieces depicting the ecstacy of St Fran-cis, inspired by Caravaggio's first religious painting completed in 1594. Rome, which hosted a record-breakingly success-ful exhibition of authenticated Caravaggio creations earlier this year, will rejoin the festivities in November with an event devoted to Caravaggio's technique. The show opening in Palazzo Venezia will examine the secrets behind his art and introduce visitors to the various theories about how he created his masterpieces. One of the exhibition's big attractions is likely to be a full-scale re-creation of Caravaggio's work-shop in Rome, where he lived and worked for 14 years. The workshop, located in the city's Campo Marzio quar-ter, has been reconstructed using a full inventory of its contents completed in 1605, the year before Caravaggio fled Rome. A long-awaited exhibition, curated by art historian Vittorio Sgarbi, is also expected to open in November in Milan's Diocesan Museum. 'The Eyes of Cara-vaggio' will explore his years of apprenticeship under Titian and Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The Caravaggio celebrations return to Palazzo Venezia in March 2011, with an exhibition entitled 'Rome in the Time of Caravaggio'. This will feature works not only by the master but also by his contemporaries and fol-lowers. It will be centred on a number of key artworks on loan from Moscow's Hermitage Mu-seum, which has a remarkable collection of paintings by 'cara-vaggiaschi', artists who followed in Caravaggio's footsteps. The exhibition will transfer to the Hermitage later in the year.
