Messages from the East:
Greetings Brethren!
Well the summer is coming to an end again as we all begin to prepare for the Fall and Winter months ahead. Darkness has left Gideon and we are all excited to be coming out of darkness and into light once again. Our fall schedule is looking very busy already with lots of events for which we need to plan and prepare. At our Stated Meeting coming up this month, we will have lots to discuss, but we will need to also plan for the events coming up.
Summer Festival and Open House 2015! This August we held our first annual Summer Festival and Open House. It was an absolutely beautiful day with lots of sunshine and nice cool breezes off the lake. The event was a great success and much fun was had by all who attended. We had a good turn out and man y brothers and their families showed up for some food, fun and music. Kids were able to play games at the Lake, have their faces painted by the Rainbow Girls and a Treasure Hunt to explore neat clues.
Brother Paiva relaxing between Duck Rescue’s Great food was available and a live band featuring two of our very own performed and rocked the place! We had many come through wanting to take tours and several resulted in requests for membership petitions.
Brothers Matt Orio and Dick Sambataro Jamming at the Summer Festival 2015
There are many to thank for all the efforts of both time and materials preparing for the day. Brother John Paiva and his wife Lisa were instrumental in planning and coordinating everything from the food and prizes to the “porta-potty” arranged for the day at “no charge”. To brothers Orio and Sambataro; thanks for providing great tunes for us all to enjoy.
Many turned out for fun and music!
Thanks to all the brothers who took time to provide public tours of the lodge. And finally, a very special thanks again to Brother Paul Szot and his wife Carol, for the lovely quilt donated for the raffle. More than $300 dollars was raised for the Building Fund from both the raffle and the other events of the day.

All in all, it was a great day and much fun was had by all. To those who couldn’t make it out, you missed a fun event at the lodge which we hope will continue in the years to come.
Upcoming Events at the Lodge This fall we will be holding several special events at the lodge. These events are marked on our online website calendar and the 1st District calendar and will be updated regularly with up to date information. Just around the corner, we will be having an Official Visitation from our Grand Master and his suite. Additionally, we will be holding a Master
Mason degree for our official inspection in November, date will be finalized soon, but look for it the first two weeks in November.
The annual state-wide Masonic Open House will be held October 17th and then Grand Lodge is right around the corner on November 21st. Right on the heels of those events, we will be running right up to our Annual Meeting in December, where we will vote for the new 2016 line officers. There are LOI’s planned in September and visitations all around the district, so try to keep track of the online district calendars in order to keep up to date with any changes or additions which may pop up.
Brothers….this also means we will need volunteers and rehearsals for both the inspection degree and visitation in November. Many of the degree parts are performed by the officers; however we need several to assist in parts for the second section. These are small parts, but it allows many more to participate in this very special event. I promise you, it will be a rewarding experience if you have not participated before. I will be “asking” for volunteers at the stated meeting.
Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund Brethren, the Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund has long been a discussion topic around the lodge. Many of you have approached me for information and the application forms for the scholarship. Upon performing extensive research into the files and archives, we were able to find many of the original documents. These originals were typed and photocopied from many years ago and were almost illegible. We have been able to reconstruct the originals and made them into new electronic media which is now available on our website. Those interested in applying or more information may go to: GideonLodge.com/WoodMemorialScholarshipFund.htm
As always, I look forward to seeing you at our next stated meeting and working with you all to see us through this busy Fall and Winter.
Fraternally,
David S. Henderson Worshipful Master ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
