What’s your favorite foil package dinner? Can you boil water in a paper cup? These questions were answered at the Girl Scout Association 70, Service Unit 12, Leader-Daughter Fall Encampment. Nearly 70 adults and Girl Scouts engaged in activities during this camping event at Girl Scout Camp Crowell in Oakton, VA the weekend of September 20, 2013. This woodland site has a place to set up tents, but also offers different varieties of shelters as well as lodges. Crowell is fenced in and provides a safe place for all levels of campers. It also offers hiking trails and has an amphitheater on 60 acres. Service Unit 70-12 includes girls residing in Aldie, Stone Ridge, and South Riding. This event is special because leaders dedicate a weekend to their daughters - who share their parent with the troop the rest of the year. There was an awesome planning committee for the event, and all participating leaders and girls helped make the encampment a success. Some encampment activities included camp skills, crafts, archery, rope obstacle courses, and making breakfast and dinner at camp. There was something for everyone with girl’s ages ranging from 5 to 17 and leaders who’ve led for 13 years to those who are leading for the first time. The 10 hours of rain did not dampen the spirits of the Girl Scouts. They continued to cook their meals, enjoy a fire, and sing songs (a Girl Scout tradition!). The weekend ended with a traditional ceremony bonding the group with wonderful memories. It also further developed leader to leader, scout to scout and leader to scout relationships. It’s never too late to be a part of our Girl Scout family. Come along and join us ([email protected]) for our next adventure and find out what your favorite foil package dinner is! And yes, you can boil water in paper cups!

It Is Project Elf Time Again! Please consider adopting a family for the holidays. Most of the families that you’ll be
helping live right here in our community. They are going through a tough time right now
and are in need of a little bit of holiday cheer.
When you adopt a family, there will be a list of the adults and children in the family with
some of their needs and wants. By using the list provided, you can help a family in
Loudoun have a cheerful holiday season.
All gifts should be wrapped, as this may very well be the only thing under the tree for the
family you adopt. We have 70 families to help this year and we’re hoping to be able to get all the families adopted.
Adoptions will open on November 1
