Add more art to your week! Check out ways to connect your creativity to badges and local art resources below. Daisy: To earn step 2 of the Tula petal, ask a family member to tell you a story about a courageous and strong woman, and then draw a picture of her. Share your art and the woman’s story with friends or your family, and hang your portrait on the wall. Invite friends and family members to do the same, and share your stories and art with each other to create your own special art gallery! Looking for a story about a strong and courageous woman to inspire you? Learn about artist Frida Kahlo! For more artistic fun, check out the Outdoor Art Maker badge. Remember, before you get online, take the Internet Safety Pledge! As a Girl Scout, you already know that girls are pretty incredible— hello, they’re the go-getters, innovators, risk-takers and leaders of today and tomorrow! But did you know that there a museum dedicated to being a girl?!? That’s right, Girl Museum is the first museum in the world dedicated to girlhood. It’s a virtual museum for exhibitions, education, and raising awareness about girls and girlhood globally. Through exhibitions, publications, and projects, Girl Museum explores and documents the unique experience of being born and growing up female. Over the last year, Girl Museum's own Contributing Writer Tia Shah, has been writing an amazing column about trailblazing girls throughout history. This Incredible Girls column is about contempo-rary girls under the age of 25 who are doing awe-inspiring and significant things in the world. You can find their stories here, below is an except from one the column that highlights the life of newly-published author and Girl Scout, Alice Tapper. 11-year-old Alice Paul Tapper, daughter of broadcast journalist, Jake Tapper, just wrote a picture book all about the importance of girls raising their hands in the classroom. When she was 10, she wrote an op-ed for the New York Times where she talked about a recent school trip and she noticed that all the boys were speaking up in class and the girls were quieter. Alice decided to take the experience to her Girl Scout troop, and together they created a “Raise Your Hand” patch. Girl Scouts can get a patch by promising to raise their hands in class and get other girls in their class to do the same. The patch has been available nationwide since October 2017. Inspired by the op-ed, Alice’s picture book, Raise Your Hand, came out on March 26, 2019, and encourages girls to be more confident in class.
