The GIS International Workshop on Agromet 1
05~09 December 2016, Jeju Korea
The International Workshop on Agromet and GIS Applications for
Agricultural Decision Making 5th-9th December, 2016
Jeju, Korea
Introduction
The International Workshop on Agromet and GIS Applications for Agricultural Decision Making
aims to carry out the development and application of science and technology to provide high
quality products, resources and services and develop effective linkage between agricultural
meteorological service providers and relevant users of these agrometeorological sciences,
technology, products and services. Especially the meeting consists of sharing existing practices
using GIS to integrate weather, climate, agricultural and related data to support agricultural
meteorological products and models. Also, QGIS training courses are provided by National
Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS). To integrate and maximize the agricultural research
activities in Korea, the Korean institutes and experts related to the agrometeorology are invited in
the meeting such as National Center for Agro Meteorology (NCAM), APEC Climate Center (APCC),
Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), and many
other experts from universities. The statistical and dynamical downscaling technology to produce
high resolution data is discussed as good examples for GIS applications. Moreover the tutorials
for GIS and downscaling technologies are provided for the beginner and intermediate level for
those who are interested in creating high resolution data in one’s field.

The official travel guide to Jeju is “Visit Korea” (http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/index.kto).
https://english.visitkorea.or.kr:1001/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_6.jsp?cid=256109 Jeju island has become the first Korean natural heritage site to be added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List and one of the World’s 7 Wonders of Nature. In addition, Jeju is well known for tracking routes for tourists. Olle[Ole] is the Jeju word for a narrow pathway that is connected from the street to the front gate of a house. “Olle” sounds like “would you come to Jeju?”. If you like tracking, then Jeju will be one of the best spot. The Hallasan national park has the highest mountain in South Korea, Hallasan which is a shield volcano. The special nature of Halla mountain designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2002, a World Natural Heritage Site in 2007.

Therefore it is the only way to get Jeju by airplane. Currently Jeju is connected from Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport (http://www.airport.co.kr/doc/gimpo/). For those of you coming from oversea through Incheon International Airport, it is strongly recommended to arrive Gimpo Airport (domestic terminal) by Airport limousine or subway. If you may find another city for transfer such as Tokyo(Narita International Airport), Osaka(Kansai International Airport) in Japan, and Beijing, Shanghai, and many other cities in China or Taipei, Hongkong, and many other east-south Asia, then you may be able to find the direct flight from transfer city to Jeju.
