GIVE EVERY KID A FAIR CHANCE.

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette

Toc uevilleSOCIETY

At United Way, we believe every child deserves a fair chance – to succeed in school, graduate from high school, and go on to work or college so they can support their own families.

Right now, in our four counties, more than 100,000 are living in poverty. That means 1 in 5 kids don’t have that chance. Together, we can change this.

With your help, we will cut childhood poverty in half by 2025.

Here at United Way, we know what it takes to overcome the barriers that trap kids and families in poverty. And we’re working with our partners to get better results for our community... particularly for kids of color who are affected by it the most. We’re leading over 70 of the best nonprofits in our region in creating a shared, region-wide strategy to improve the odds for kids and families. Together, we’re sharing data and resources, shaping policy, and linking together solutions that work.

We want you to be part of the effort – because every dollar, every minute, every voice counts. Join us to cut childhood poverty in half in our region by 2025.

Your investment can make this all possible.

My wife, Edie, and I

Please consider joining or upgrading your membership in the Tocqueville Society today.

There’s so much real need in our region right now. At the same time, there are many good people and organizations working to improve our community. It’s hard to know the best place to donate. That’s why we’ve always given to United Way. Year after year, United Way has proven that it invests our donations where they have the most effective impact.

WHAT IS TOCQUEVILLE?A DEDICATED GROUP OF PHILANTHROPISTS

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette’s Tocqueville Society is a group of elite donors who are at the forefront of creating positive change and tackling our community’s toughest issues. Membership is open to individuals and couples who contribute $10,000 or more annually.

The national Tocqueville Society was created by United Way of America in 1984, designed to deepen individuals’ understanding of, commitment to, and support of the work of United Way. Four years later, in 1988, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette founded our local Tocqueville Society.

Member Benefits

Benefits of the Tocqueville Society membership include:

• Exclusive events for Tocqueville Society members

• Tours of partner organizations: see your investment in action and meet the people whose lives are being changed because of your investment in United Way

• Family-friendly volunteer opportunities through Hands On Greater Portland, United Way’s volunteer program

• Invitations to special events

United Way has a proven track record of innovation, flexibility, and commitment to solving seemingly intractable problems at the local level. That is why, as a couple, we have supported United Way for nearly 20 years. We became Tocqueville donors not by making aTocqueville-level gift the first time we donated, but rather by growingour donation a little more each year.

When personal values, work life and United Way goals align, it’s a gift. The goal of giving kids a great start in life and interrupting the cycle of poverty is important to us personally and to society at large. We give because we believe in the work of United Way. We give because of our faith in the work of agencies committed to this work. And we give because it matters to the future of our community.
