Buddhist MeditationMeditation is the art of cultivating calm, focussed, positive states of mind and has been practised in Buddhism for centuries. The leaders from the Sheffield Buddhist Centre will help you discover how meditation can help you cope with the stresses of everyday life. 18:00-19:00, Gallery Room 3, £1.50.

Wine TastingCome along to this fun introduction to the fascinating world of wine, where you’ll learn how to taste, smell and drink fine wines. You’ll sample plenty of wine, specially selected from around the globe, and learn all about its flavour, nose and legs with a leading wine expert.18:00-20:00, The Fusion, £5.

RunningWhether you are running for fitness or for London 2012, come and run around the local area with our friendly group. All abilities are welcome, as there will be a number of different groups

City Centre Tour & Afternoon Tea

Get to know the city centre on this specially designed Give it a Go tour. Join this walking tour and check out many of the city’s attractions such as the neo-classical building that is The City Hall at Baker’s Pool, the contemporary Peace Gardens which showcases several

memorials, water features and fountains. We will also wander past the world famous Crucible theatre in Tudor Square and stop off at the city’s cathedral which has stood proudly since 1430. The tour will finish at the luxury Leopold Hotel where you will enjoy the very English delight of afternoon tea (which includes a choice of tea and a scone with cream and jam) in a private room. Meet Glossop Road entrance to Bar One at 12:00, £4. Price includes afternoon tea.

Orienteering IntroductionOrienteering can be both a physically and mentally challenging sport, as competitors use a map to navigate around set checkpoints to reach the finish line in the fastest time possible. This session is designed as a basic introduction to orienteering and its techniques, and coaching will be provided by an experienced team. Please wear clothes and shoes suitable for running on grass and hard footpaths.Meet in front of the Arts Tower at 14:00, the session will finish at 16:00, £2.50.

Burlesque Burlesque was made famous by such influences as Dita Von Teese and Immodesty Blaze. Come and learn a tease-tastic burlesque routine… without the stripping! Bring your best and most comfortable high heels to the class and don’t forget your stockings.17:00-18:00, The Fusion, £2.50.

Belly DanceBelly Dancing is good exercise and great fun. It can strengthen body, mind and spirit, reinforce female sensuality and is even said to relieve period pain! This class is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. So come along, have a giggle while you wiggle and shimmy those hips! 18:00-19:00, The Raynor Lounge, £2.50. Females only.

Chocolate Tasting

Let the lovely ladies from Cocoa chocolate shop take you on a journey into chocolate. You’ll explore the wonders and secrets of chocolate, and find out more about its history and creation. You will get to taste plenty of divine chocolates and truffles in this cosy shop which is stuffed to the brim with sweet delights.Meet Glossop Road entrance to Bar One at 19:00, the session will run until 21:00, £5.

Barista TrainingLet Coffee Revolution introduce you to the art of making a good espresso coffee. Impress your mates by knowing how to make the perfect latte and cappuccino! During this practical, hands-on session, you’ll be guided by Coffee Revolution expert

baristas. You’ll learn how to make the perfect espresso, and the difference between latte and cappuccino milk. You’ll even be able to drink everything you make. 19:30-22:00, Coffee Revolution, £3.50.

Ghost WalkHave you ever wondered what spooky secrets lurk in Victorian Sheffield? Take this guided tour around the dark heart of the steel city to discover the ghosts and ghouls of the past. You’ll be amazed at the secrets Sheffield holds… from scandals and murders to some very bizarre occurrences! Wear warm clothes and bring an umbrella if necessary. Salsa Get your pulses racing with some silk smooth Latin American moves and sexy salsa. Wiggle your way to a J-Lo bottom or Ricky Martin hips and turns up the heat! Come and get involved with the Latin spirit in this fun filled social environment. Beer Tasting Come and taste what all the fuss is about with this fun introduction to beer! You’ll learn how to savour the different flavours of beers, how to make beer, and meet a brewer from the award-winning Thornbridge Brewery. Madi Language SessionCome and learn the basic greetings of the Madi language. The language originates from the north of Uganda and date back to the 15th century. This special one off class is taught by a native speaker, so come along and explorer the exciting world of Ugandan culture. This session has been organised by Student Action for Refugees Society.18:00-20:00, Gallery Room 4, £2.

Post Grad Bowling

Give it a Go has linked up with the UK’s number one bowling centre Hollywood Bowl. The aim of the game is to score points by knocking down the pins with a bowling ball. We have two lanes reserved so come along, meet new friends and see if you can score a strike! It’s going to be a knock out! Meet at the Union Box Office at 18:30, £7. Ticket includes two games and hire of bowling shoes.

Mexican Folk Dance “Son de America”If you are fascinated by the mystic traditions, the colourful costumes and the joyful music of Latin America, this is for you! Come along and try some steps from the well known "Bamba" or "The Mexican Hat Dance”. This is also a good opportunity to practice your basic Spanish with the Latin people that lead the class. This session is suitable for men and women of any age. No experience or partner needed. Everyone is welcome!!!19:00-21:00, Octagon Lounge Bar, £2.50.

Brewery Tour

The Kelham Island Brewery was the first independent brewery in Sheffield and is a full mash pure beer brewery. The brewery uses only the finest malted barley and wheat, hops, yeast and water, and its sole aim is to produce beers of the highest quality. The visit includes a guided tour where you will be able to check out the equipment and bakehouse. Kelham Island has a fantastic range from early bitters to celebration beers. The tour will finish at the award winning Fat Cat pub (150 year old listed building) where you will have access to the private bar area and enjoy their special brews. Urban HashAn excellent way to get your heart pumping, a hash is fun and highly sociable event. In a large group you will follow a trail (including decision points, false trails and maybe even a break for beverages) around the local area. The hash will start and finish from Weston Park and is suitable for all levels of fitness. Wear clothes and shoes suitable for running on grass and hard footpaths. Meet in front of the Arts Tower at 14:00, end time 16:00, £2.50.

Zumba

Zumba is a new fun type of dance which has just hit the scene! It’s the latest dance craze to sweep Sheffield and it’s guaranteed to stay. Zumba originated in Columbia and is a hot fusion of hypnotic Latin rhythms. The class promises to be an absolute blast, one exciting hour of energizing movement and calorie burning exercise. Join in the Latin party and learn a routine taught by a professional teacher from Dance Star UK. Bring a bottle of water.16:00-17:00, The Fusion, £2.50.

Mixed LacrosseCome along for a fun taster session in Lacrosse, learn the basic skills (pass, catch and shoot) and make LAX mates for life. We are a mixed team and welcome new comers, regardless of your experience so come along and get your hands on a racquet. We have experienced players so come visit the Sports Fair and meet the team. 17:00-18:00, Goodwin Sports Centre Pitch F, £2.

Gospel ChoirEnjoy singing? Want to meet new people? Come and give Gospel Choir a go! No experience is

FencingFencing dates right back to the 14th century and is as popular as ever with, the sport being played at World Cup and Olympic level. In this session you will get your hands on a sabre sword and learn the basic footwork and attack moves. No experience is needed and all equipment is provided.17:00-19:00, The Fusion, £4.50.

Noodle Inn London road is the place to go for a meal out, boasting a long stretch of restaurants that specialise in a variety of cuisines. Tonight the Cooking Society will take you to Noodle Inn, a Chinese restaurant that is a great place to socialise and share good food. There will also be a short tour en route where you can familiarise yourself with the locations of the local Asian grocers and supermarkets around Sheffield, and do any essential grocery shopping. Whether it’s for finding out the places to shop, or just the desire to have some good oriental food, this is one session you shouldn’t miss out!Meet in front of the Octagon Centre at 17:50, 50p. Gardens, the hustle and bustle of Ecclesall Road which is made up of exciting shops and specialist businesses. You will take a turn past the award winning Italian restaurant Nonnas onto the cosmopolitan Sharrow Vale Road- a popular hotspot full of boutique shops and independent eateries. Wakeboarding

This fantastic facility at Rother Valley Country Park operates by pulling you around a 750 metre circuit with overhead cables. In this beginners session everyone will start off on knee-boards, and after building up confidence you can then move on to try wakeboarding or waterskiing. Participants must be of average fitness, have good eyesight (see 50 meter unaided) and be able to swim 50 metres in open water.Meet at Glossop Entrance to Bar One at 12:00, £20, includes transports, wetsuit and equipment, plus tuition from BWSF qualified instructors. Please bring swimwear and a towel. The Wakeboarding session will run 13:00-16:00 and you will return to Bar One at approximately 17:00.

Ceilidh Dance WorkshopA Ceilidh is a social gathering which originates from Scotland and Ireland and involves playing folk/rock music and dancing, similar to a barn dance. Ju JitsuIf you are looking to learn a form of self-defence then why not try Ju Jitsu? Ju Jitsu is a form of self-defence, which incorporates defences from all manner of attacks, including punches, kicks, grabs and weapons to name a few. We concentrate on techniques that confuse and disorientate the attacker before throwing, locking or striking them. A beginner’s snowboard lesson at the UK’s largest outdoor dry slope – Sheffield Ski Village. Arms and legs should be covered and bring a pair of gloves. Price includes transport, equipment & tuition. Curling & Ice SkatingWant to try something new, exciting and very unique? Then curling is definitely for you. Give it a Go has teamed up with IceSheffield to give you the opportunity to try the region’s latest sport. You’ve seen it played in the Winter Olympics so now try it yourself. Curling is a sport that everyone can play; with just one brief lesson you’ll be well on your way, and get the chance to test out your newly acquired skills in a curling competition. Wear trainers for the curling session. Ice skates are provided for the skating session. Wear warm clothing and bring a pair of gloves.Meet at by the Union Reception Welcome Desk at 13:15. DJ WorkshopHave you ever wanted to be a DJ? This is your opportunity to have your first DJ lesson! In this session you we learn the basics of DJing including sets ups and mixing. Millennium Gallery

The Millennium Gallery is an outstanding venue for the visual arts, crafts and design and sits right in the heart if Sheffield. The gallery breaks with the traditional image of an art gallery, built on two levels and is home to for individual galleries- there are all sorts of wonderful things to see including treasures from the past and new creations from contemporary artists. The Teatopia Exhibition will be on display and features delights of the British beverage - the humble cup of tea. Meet at Glossop Road entrance to Bar One at 11:00, £3. The price includes an enabler tour of the gallery, once over you’re free to explore the museum at your leisure. The gallery is a short walk into the town centre.

Fell RunningEscape from the city for a day and experience the beautiful Peak District. Setting off from Burbage (the climbing edge not the accommodation), we'll split into groups catering for all abilities and fitness levels and give you a taste of the Peak District in the most rewarding way possible! Afterwards you can unwind in the local pub. Wear clothes and shoes suitable for running on rough and possibly muddy ground. Some extra money will be needed for transport and pub stop.Meet on the Octagon steps at 11:30, the session should finish at 15:30, £2.50.

CapoeiraCapoeira is a Brazilian art form with African roots- a unique mix of martial arts, dance, gymnastics and music creates a fun and effective workout. Capoeira helps develop endurance, coordination and strength, as well as physical and mental balance. This session is suitable for beginners, everyone’s welcome! Please wear loose clothing. 14:30-16:00, Goodwin Sports Centre Activity Room 2, £4.

Peak District Walk

Want to get out of Sheffield and into the fantastic Peak District? Then this walk is for you. We’ll start from Bamford and take in the spectacular Stanage Edge before finishing in Hathersage for a well earned drink in the pub. About 7 miles in length, this walk is a great introduction to the Peak District - expect stunning views & scenery.Meet by the entrance to Sheffield train station at 09:30, £3. Please bring extra money for train fare, (£3.15 with a rail card). Please wear walking boots and please don't wear jeans; make sure you have waterproofs and bring lunch, water and money for the train and pub. We should be back in Sheffield by 17:00.

Improvised Comedy Workshop

Fancy getting involved in comedy? Whether you think you are funny or not The Shrimp’s will guide you through the exciting world of improvised comedy, revealing all their secrets. The Shrimps are the Union’s official comedy troupe, with regular shows around the Union, Sheffield, and the country. They have gathered critical acclaim with their last three years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and they are here to teach YOU! Tarot Card ReadingLearn what tarot card reading is really all about in this workshop: dispel the myths, discover different types of cards and what tarot can be used for. Learn how to interpret the cards and gain an insight into the possible future. Many believe the tarot cardsare guided by a spiritual force, so come along to this session and find out for yourself. Ceilidh Truly a top night out – live music, dancing, drinking and a guarantee of meeting new people! A ceilidh (pronounced kaylee) involves simple dances to traditional folk and rock music. Don’t miss this fun evening of energetic dances with one of Ceilidhsoc’s glorious scratchbands. No partner or experience is necessary, as simple instructions are given on the night. Henna Tattooing Henna is a natural dye extracted from a henna plant, and is used to create a temporary tattoo by crushing the dried leaves to form a powder. Henna designs range from beautiful and intricate flowery designs to geometric and abstract patterns. Chatsworth House & GardensChatsworth House is a truly awesome traditional English stately home and a must-see attraction whilst you’re living in Sheffield! More than 30 magnificent rooms display one of Europe’s finest private collections of treasures. Appy Feet

Appyfeet is a new concept foot spa with a difference. It works by using original Garra Rufa fish also known as Doctor Fish; ok this does sounds a bit weird but this is how it works. You immerse

Women’s Cricket

Think you won't like cricket? You'll love it by the end of this beginner’s session! You'll get lots of help learning the basics and get to meet one of the friendliest sports clubs in the Uni. So don't worry if you've never held a cricket bat before, just come along and have some fun! Samba DrummingSamba is a distinctive style of music from Brazil, with a rhythm that’s lively and captivating. Come along to this beginners’ session, where you’ll learn a range of upbeat rhythms, with Rio Carnival and African influences.12:00-14:00, The Fusion, £2.50.

Power Kiting

Come and fly a power-kite with the Uni Kitesoc! Our kites range in size from 1 up to 12 square metres! Steer one as it pulls you around, giving you a fun workout. Advanced kiters can use bigger kites, do controlled jumps and ride on a board. Everyone is welcome to come along and try. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and bring an extra £1 on the day for your bus fare.Meet at the Union Box Office at 13:00 , £1. We should be back at the Union by around 16:00.

Get to know the city centre on this specially designed Give it a Go tour. Join this walking tour and check out many of the city’s attractions such as the neo-classical building that is The City Hall at Baker’s Pool, the contemporary Peace Gardens which showcases several memorials, water features and fountains. We will also wander past the world famous Crucible theatre in Tudor Square and stop off at the city’s cathedral which has stood proudly since 1430. Kelham Island Museum

Kelham Island Museum was opened in 1982 to house the objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield’s industrial story. The displays at the Museum tell the story from the “Little Mester” to mass production, skilled workers, revolutionary processes, quality products, invention and innovation. Located in one of the city’s oldest industrial districts, the Museum stands on a man-made island over 900 years old. Inside the Museum buildings, you can witness the sights and sounds of industrial Sheffield through our exhibitions, working machinery and activity areas. It is also home to a great transport collection which includes the famous Sheffield Simplex car, built in 1920 and Rolls-Royce jet engine. Palmistry

Palmistry is the art of palm reading. This spiritual practice originates from India and relates to individuals’ characterisation and fortune telling. The different patterns on the hands relate to the heart, head and life lines and this can be read to determine attributes of body, mind and spirit. VolleyballFancy learning the basic skills of Volleyball in this introductory session. This training session will teach you how to serve, pass and block as well as tips on how to score points as you get to grips with the Volleyball court. 24 Hour Film Making WorkshopAfter the success of University of Sheffield’s first 24 hour filmmaking challenge, a new term sees the opportunity for anyone to once again get involved in a new 24 hour filmmaking challenge. This event challenges you to write, film and edit your very own film in small groups within a 24 hour timeframe. Friendly competition is involved but NO previous experience is necessary. This is a great opportunity to learn more about film making, meet new people and most importantly have fun! After the 24 hours is up we will deliver the film to the gallery by 6pm the following day where we will all watch what we have made. All equipment is provided. CeilidhTruly a top night out – live music, dancing, drinking and a guarantee of meeting new people! A ceilidh (pronounced kaylee) involves simple dances to traditional folk and rock music. Don’t miss this fun evening of energetic dances with one of Ceilidhsoc’s glorious scratchbands. No partner or experience is necessary, as simple instructions are given on the night. Harewood House & Leeds

Harewood House sits in the heart of Yorkshire’s most beautiful landscape and is one of the most treasured houses in England, built in the mid-18th Century. The estate has magnificent interiors and is home to the Earl and Countess of Harewood. This trip includes a guided tour of the royal state rooms where you will see a collection of exquisite paintings and furniture. As well, the tour will take you below stairs to take a glimpse of the rooms and corridors which were once occupied by the servants of the house. After, we drive into Leeds city centre, the shopping capital of the North! Spend the afternoon in the ornate Victoria Quarter, either dining or shopping. The arcades in the Victoria Quarter are decorated in mosaics and marble making the centre a very stylish place to spend an afternoon. If shopping is not your thing, how about a visit to the Leeds Art Gallery

Graves Art GalleryGraves Art Gallery opened in 1934 and is the home of Sheffield visual art collection and has recently been refurbished, giving works by legendary visual artists such as Turner and Cezanne. Power Kiting Come and fly a power-kite with the Uni Kitesoc! Our kites range in size from 1 up to 12 square metres! Steer one as it pulls you around, giving you a fun workout. Scavenger HuntThe Lemon Fresh Society would

like to welcome you to Sheffield, and what better way to introduce you to the city than by exploring it in a timed challenge! This gruelling afternoon will test the very limits of your creativity, cunning and ingenuity. Each team will be given a whopping list of 50 things to collect, find, visit or do. You will be given just three hours to scour your brains and resources in order to complete as many of these tasks as you possibly can! When the time is complete we will meet again so we can count up the points while you relax over coffee and cake. The Showroom is one of the largest independent cinemas in Europe and the place to be for anyone with a passion for film.

The cinema is located in the heart of Sheffield’s cultural quarter, a stone’s throw away from the city’s main station and shopping centre. The Showroom screens the latest film releases, classic cinema, family films and the best cinema from around the world and is also the main venue for the Sheffield International Documentary Festival, which adds an air or sophistication and culture to the city. KarateKarate is a martial art and system of self defence that focuses on striking and blocking, without the use of weapons. It’s great for
