The Institute will participate in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day ofunity on May 5 created in response to the unprecedented need causedby COVID-19. Supporting Asian Americans During COVID-19

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has partnered withthe MGH Center for Cross-Cultural Student Emotional Wellnessand the Harvard Graduate School of Education on the webinarseries "Let's Talk! Supporting Asian and Asian AmericanStudents Through COVID-19." This series offers support tomembers of the IHP community at a time when AsianAmericans are feeling particularly vulnerable. OSAS Continues to Help Students During Pandemic

While everyone is physically distancing and socially connecting fromoff campus, Dr. Jack Gormley, Dean of Students and AlumniServices, produced a video message to let everyone know thatOSAS and nearly all service areas of the Institute remain openvirtually and ready to help the IHP's students.

Honoring PT Department on One Boston Day

Associate Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor of PhysicalTherapy Caitlin Fitzgerald donated to the Martin Richard Foundation andPartners in Health on One Boston Day, held April 15 to commemorate thecity’s resilience since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. Fitzgerald, whowas on Boylston Street that day, made the donations “in honor of the IHP’sphysical therapy department who are working hard to support each other, ourstudents, our communities, our healthcare front-line colleagues, ourpatients/clients and your families/friends.”

A Wedding Ceremony During the Coronavirus

Scores of virtual guests tuned in using Zoom to witness CSDfaculty member Joanna Christodoulou wed her long-time beau,James Walker, during an intimate ceremony on Sunday, April 19.Held on the John W. Weeks Bridge over the Charles River inCambridge, Dr. Christodoulou noted, "It was peaceful and warm,and we were surrounded by signs of spring. Given our originalwedding plans had to be cancelled, we were grateful to have these

moments of celebration in a challenging time."

Virtual Music to the Ears at “IHP Together”

Sixteen live and recorded performances by 31 students, staff,alumni, spouses, and friends occurred May 1 at “IHP Together:Connecting Through the Arts.”

The OSAS-sponsored event, orchestrated by Director of AlumniRelations Katie Mulcahy and Assistant Director for Student

Leadership Development Kerry Kearns, was a musical celebration that included guitar, ukulele, piano,singing, and a classical Indian and Bollywood dance. Director for Career Development Russ Abbatielloemceed the event, introducing the performers and providing lively banter and a few Jib Jab videosfeaturing several IHPers to make the 90-minute event seem like it ended far too soon.

2020 SGA Awards Announced

The 2020 Student Government Association awards were presented this year via video. The winnerswere: Innovative Spirit - Institute for Healthcare Improvement: Open School; Be the Change - MentalHealth Club; C.A.R.E. Award (Community, Access, Responsibility, and Engagement) - Students for RacialJustice in Healthcare; Outstanding IMPACT - Student Government Association Facilities Committee;Student Organization Advisor – PT Assistant Professor Caitlin Fitzgerald, advisor to IHI; Emerging LeaderAward - Alejandra Luna, OTD '22; and Outstanding Student Leader - Alexa McWhinnie, MSN '20.

Celebrating OT Month

The Student Occupational Therapy Association celebrated OTMonth by making a video in which they thanked OTs atMassachusetts General Hospital.

OSAS Slideshow Highlights 2019-2020

The Office of Student and Alumni Services has put together a musical slide show depicting events heldby the IHP’s student clubs during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Virtual Study Breaks, Study Buddies

The Office of the Library organized virtual study assistance activitiesleading up to and during finals. Over 60 students played VirtualTeam Trivia on April 16 to help relax at the end of the semester andreconnect with their IHP peers over Zoom. The new Secret StudyBuddies debuted at the end of the semester with 16 studentssending their buddy encouragement, motivation, and/or

congratulations for finishing their final exams and projects. And there were over 400 visits to the StudyBreaks Guide.
