Term 4 Week 8 29th of November 2013
These past weeks have been very busy; however,
our students are thoroughly enjoying all the
creative activities which occur at this time of
year.
The Gladstone Community Markets were a huge
success. This would not have been possible
without the support of our amazing P & C.
Students enjoyed badge making, face painting,
guessing competition, chess competitions not to
mention the outstanding singing performance by
the Gladstone students. The feedback from the
public and stall holders was very positive. Thank
you again to everyone involved.
Kindergarten orientation has commenced and it
is lovely to have such delightful students starting
in 2014. We have been working with the
Smithtown Preschool. Students in 1H
participated in a story telling session held at the
preschool. As usual, Gladstone students
displayed impeccable manners and great
listening skills.
Mrs Lister joined us last week for a sculpture
day, which resulted in the building of two
Christmas trees which are now show pieces
within our school.
Gladstone Public School also hosted the Macleay
Educational Community of Schools meeting this
week. Many Principals and staff from various
schools around the Macleay attended and
commented on how lovely our school was and
the quality of work in which students have
engaged in.
Finally I would like to congratulate Ji Barker
who was the recipient of 2013 Kempsey West
Rotary Citizenship Award. Ji attended an award
ceremony held last Tuesday evening at the
Kempsey RSL.
Citation
Ji Barker is Gladstone Public School’s Vice
Captain and demonstrates all the qualities you
would expect of a school leader. He continually
assists his peers in a very understated way, never
looking for recognition or accolades. Ji cares for
the most vulnerable students and befriends them
in an honest and compassionate way. There is
not a single student at Gladstone Public School
who does not respect or look up to Ji. He applies
himself academically and has achieved success
in the sporting arena. Ji encompasses citizenship
and is most deserving of this award

Mrs Pugh’s News
H.S.I.E./ Science- On Thursday 21st November Lisa Seigal visited us from Cascade Field Studies Centre. Lisa is an expert on all environmental matters and she updated our status as a Waterwise school. Students were beautifully behaved throughout the discussions and activities and asked some thoughtful questions. I’m sure Lisa will look forward to future visits to our school.
Garden- We have planted some of the Azaleas donated by Loma and will have the rest planted soon. The rain has been fantastic making our soil nice and soft and the vegetables are looking terrific.
Library- The stocktake is underway and I’d like to thank everyone for their help and patience. Our library will be back on track asap. Guitar – Some lucky students have been learning the basics of guitar playing. They are doing very well and are welcome to borrow school guitars to practice at home. Stay tuned for our first performance!!
2M CLASS NEWS
2M have been working exceptionally hard these
past few weeks. We have several students who
are already commencing work a year above their
current year level. This is a wonderful
achievement for those students, in particular our
Year 6 students who are attempting work at a
Year 7 level.
This week Year 5 students have been preparing
their school captain’s speeches. School voting
will be next Monday. We have some outstanding
candidates for these positions.
Kinchela School also invited Gladstone Public
School to watch a drama performance by
Kempsey High School students. These students
presented skits and plays which were very
entertaining.
2M students have a focus on personal safety and
child protection this term. Please discuss with
your children what you expect them to do in the
event of an emergency at home and who they
could go to if they were in an emergency
situation.
Finally 2M hosted their final assembly for the
year, It was wonderful to see the confidence in
performance developing at these assemblies.

1H CLASS NEWS
It has been a busy two weeks. Last week we
welcomed our kindergarten enrolments for 2014
into our class for the day. We all had a great day
and I can’t wait for next week when we welcome
them back for their second day.
Last week we also had a visit from Lisa the
“Water Wise” lady. We listened to a story about
a raindrop that explained the “water cycle” and
experimented with testing things to see if they
would sink or float.
We also went for a visit to the Lower Macleay
Preschool last week. We listened to a story teller,
played with the pre-schoolers, sang songs and
had milo. It was a fantastic morning enjoyed by
all.
Yesterday our three Kindergarten girls
accompanied the year six boys back to the Pre-
school. This time our students took a book with
them to read with the children.
We finished the week with our assembly. Well
done to Ella and Lacey on being our EMCEE’S.
