This non-profit organization trains and provides guide dogs for the visually impaired, service dogs trained to help individuals in wheelchairs or with physical disabilities and facility dogs that are trained to work with professionals assisting in education, rehabilitation. You will tour the training facility and see a demonstration with the service dogs. You will visit Marcon Pies where they make over 50 varieties of pies that are shipped to grocery stores in the Midwest, and you will take a freshly baked pie home! You will visit Herrs Car and Truck Museum which is dedicated to the preservation and heritage of vintage cars, trucks, tractors and engines. They have over 100 vehicles and other items on display. Lunch will be included in Wash-ington today. Cost: $95.00 includes motor coach transporta-tion, lunch, tours and pie. Motor coach departs at 7:15 a.m. and will return at approximately 6:00 p.m. Deadline: March 25th. Volunteer Opportunities Cancer Action Workshop - This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 9:00 - noon at the Gladstone Community Center. Their main goal is to make bed pads for cancer patients. There are many jobs to do and they don’t all involve sewing. Call 423-4086 for more information.

PELLA TULIP FESTIVAL’S NIGHT PARADE - MAY 5-6, 2016 - In May of every year, Pella, Iowa comes alive with tulips, Dutch attire, parades, food and fun at the annual Tulip Time Festival. You’ll enjoy a tour of Pella and a Dutch Dinner and Show at Central College. Activities at the festival include shopping in their exquisite stores filled with imported goods. Food stands fill side streets with food ranging from traditional Dutch to American. Demonstrations of Dutch Letter making and wooden shoe carving take place in the Historical Village. One of the highlights of the Tulip Time Festival is the parades! They feature an afternoon parade and a lighted evening parade. We’ve been going to this festival for 20 years and this will be the first time that we’ve seen the evening parade! You will stay overnight in Des Moines, Iowa. The next day you will visit Salisbury House and the Des Moines Botanical Garden where you will have lunch before returning to Gladstone. This old town had a reputation for being the most wicked town in the Old West. You will enjoy at guided tour plus a visit to the Home of Stone, the oldest building in Dodge City that is still on its original site, visit a Mexican tortillas shop to see how they are made and The Boothill Museum featuring historical exhibits illustrating the life and times of early Dodge City. Stroll down the boardwalk and peer through the windows into a time gone by. Plant your feet atop of the original Boot Hill Cemetery located in the heart of modern day Dodge City. You will enjoy one of the best country-style meals in the Amer-ican West. Attention Clay County Residents who are 60+ years of age. Clay County Senior Services will provide class schol-arships to Clay County residents age 60 and older for exer-cise classes through the City of Gladstone Parks & Recrea-tion Department. This includes both land and water classes. Clay County Senior Services will pay up to $30 per person, each quarter, not to exceed $120.00 per year. Funds will be available until the max amount is met per quarter. This is a first come, first serve basis. Gladstone Community Center—Walking Club Punch Pass Program - Punch Pass costs $12.00 for 12 punches. The Clay County Senior Services Subsidy program can be used toward punch card. No partner needed! You will enjoy easy, fun-to-learn and fun-to-do dances. Line Dance is loved by all. When peo-ple start dancing, laughter bubbles, hearts are joyful and smiles are found all around. BOOK CLUB Join Luaun Gavin for the The Book Club featuring “More Amazing Women in History!” There will be a meeting at the end of each month for some fun and engaging discussion about each book. The Antioch Public Library has some copies of each book in hard copy, e-books and audio. At the Library, tell them you need a book for the Gladstone Parks & Recreation book club. If they are out of books, they can also be purchased at local book stores or Walmart or Target. There is a $5.00 Book Club fee per month to cover refreshments and room fees.
