Over 70% of the venues are already in place and this provides a strong foundation on which to plan and organise the 17 sportswithin the Games. Existing facilities will be complemented by arange of new venues to be built for the community in Glasgowand Scotland and used for the Games. Many of these will becompleted well before the Games in 2014 providing ample timefor test events in the preceding years. All of the venues havebeen signed off by relevant Governing Bodies of Sport.

With such a comprehensive set of facilities already in place andwidely used over several decades for international sports events,the transport infrastructure around existing venues is extensive.Often travel to such venues is by means of public transportallowing us to be sensitive to environmental issues in our planning for the Games.We have included a copy of Map 8.3 from Theme 8 of the Candidate City File whichillustrates the venues for the Games and their relationship to the transport systems in and around the city.

As illustrated throughout the Candidate City File and in Map 1.2which is repeated in this volume, the vast majority of venues liewithin a 20 minute radius of the village.These will be a compactGames for athletes, officials and spectators.

The block plans have largely been listed in alphabetical order by sport except where there are several sports within oneprecinct. In these cases, for ease of reference, the sports havebeen grouped together.The index identifies the range of blockplans and their location within the volume.
