The Horatio Alger Kansas Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the State of Kansas who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education.

Greater Wichita National Pan-Hellenic Council Scholarship Applicants must be fully admitted to Wichita State University seeking a degree and have a cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 or above. An interview will be required.

Honors College Koch Scholars ProgramTo be a Koch Scholar, you must be an incoming freshmen student at Wichita State with a declared major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Human Resources or Management Information Systems. The Coolidge Scholarship (juniors only)The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation offers a full-ride scholarship for current high school juniors. Koch Opportunity Scholarship Program

To apply, you must be a junior or senior, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and plan to enroll in agriculture, home economics, or a related field.

Better Business Bureau Scholarship These scholarships recognize students of integrity who represent Better Business Bureau values. CGCS-Bernard Harris Math and Science ScholarshipsThe Council of the Great City Schools offers four scholarships to two Black and two Hispanic students currently completing their senior year of high school who are pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). Applicants must attend a 4-year university.

A “Before-You-Apply” ChecklistMany scholarships require you to report lots of information. Before you apply for

scholarships, have handy the following items so the process goes as quickly as possible:

A transcript  – While completing applications, you may be asked to type in your grades since you have been in high school. Having your transcript nearby will help you fill in this information quickly. You can access your transcript by creating an account at Parchment.com

A school profile  – You may need this to answer several questions about your school such as your school code (Height’s code is 173212), as well as the number of AP, IB and Honors classes your school provides. If needed, see Mr. Ghitis for a copy of the school profile.

A list of school and non-school related clubs and organizations – Include any leadership positions earned since freshman year plus any awards and honors that you have received.

A list of volunteer organizations – Include the number of hours served with each organization since freshman year plus any awards and honors that you have received.

Two letters of recommendation – Many scholarships require you to submit one or two letters of recommendation. Identify two adults in your life who can write about your character strengths. It looks good if you have one teacher/counselor/CCC/administrator as well as one individual from outside of school (i.e., your boss, your volunteer supervisor, your pastor, etc.). I am happy to write recommendation letters for you, but I want to learn more about you first. Therefore, be sure to visit me often!

Family Income – Some need-based scholarships will ask you to include information about your family’s income. This is to help determine your “need” for certain scholarships.

Personal Statements/Essays – Often times, scholarship applications will as ask you to write about your goals, a leadership experience you have had, and/or what has motivated you to pursue a college degree. Spend some time typing up about 500 words for each of these potential prompts. You’ll thank yourself later.
