Just in case you needed reminding what makes the Tweed Valley one of the best mountain bike destinations on the planet, here’s the evidence…There’s never been a combined trail map for the main three riding areas in the valley, so we hope it provides some inspiration to get out and ride these trails. Once you’ve done all these, there’s more to explore at Thornielee, Yair and other less-well known spots in the area – you won’t run out of ideas.

We’ve put this map together from local knowledge and other riders feedback. WQe don’t claim it to be 100% accurate and it is not an official trail guide. We just wanted to help riders explore the area and have the best time while they’re here, so we hope this might provide some useful info.

Trail Maps

• Mountain biking can be dangerous.• Wear a helmet at all times and use

suitable protective equipment.

• Many of these trails have technical features and steep sections

• Inspect trail features before riding

• There are fantastic Green (easy) and Blue (easy-moderate) trails at Glentress. These provide a great introduction to Tweed Valley MTB.

• Be prepared for the weather and trail conditions

Warning. Ride trails at your own risk

The trails have been graded/coloured according to local opinion, or previously established grading either by trail builders or Forestry and Land Scotland. None of the trail gradings on our maps are objective or definitive, and remember, what feels straightforward in warm, dry conditions could feel like an absolute nightmare when it’s cold and wet. You are always responsible for yourself and your own safety.

You ride these trails at your own risk, so walk features or difficult sections first. We’d also recommend you always ride with a friend. Beware the weather changes fast here, some of these trails are relatively high and on Scottish hills where you can get sun, wind, rain and snow in the same day. Always carry the right kit and clothing with you.

Area Map

Every MTB rider owes a huge debt of thanks and respect to all the Tweed Valley trail builders. Forestry and Land Scotland created the trail centres and all the original official trails, and recently the volunteer-based Tweed Valley Trails Association has been established to help manage the ever-growing trail network. TVTA has adopted several trails at Caberston, and aims to have a much bigger role in trail management here in coming years.

Individual builders have built some amazing trails over the last ten years or more – their work output is astounding and has been central to putting the area on the map as what we believe is the best MTB destination in the UK.

We’d recommend joining or supporting your local trail organisation

The Trailfairies volunteer group has put in many thousands of hours of maintenance work on the trails of Glentress and Innerleithen, and has worked with FLS to build some awesome enduro tracks.

TweedLove itself was originally set up to promote and improve the trail network and we’re proud of our contribution to it over that time. Over the last ten years or so we’ve worked with FLS, volunteers and contractors to build new trails and maintain others. We also put a lot of time into prepping trails for races and repairing any damage caused by races.

Trailbuilders

A mixture of waymarked and unmarked trails, not suitable for beginners.

A fantastic collection of way-marked trails, suitable for all skill levels. There are also unmarked enduro trails suitable for skilled riders only.

There are no waymarked trails here, only unmarked trails suitable for skilled and experienced riders only.
