Safety

General Safety Precautions for Servicing Units (or Containers) Equipped with a Microprocessor Controller.

Precautions must be taken to prevent electrostatic discharge when servicing the MP-4000 microprocessor and related components. If these precautionary measures are not followed, the risk of significant damage to electronic components of the unit is possible. The primary risk potential results from the failure to wear adequate electrostatic dis-charge preventive equipment when handling and servicing the controller.

Controller RepairWhen servicing the controller, it is necessary to ensure that electrostatic discharges are avoided. Potential differences considerable lower than those which produce a small spark from a finger to a door knob can severely damage or destroy solid-state integrated circuit components. The following procedures must be rigidly adhered to when servicing these units to avoid controller damage or destruction.

1. Disconnect all power to the unit.2. Avoid wearing clothing that generates static elec tricity (wool, nylon, polyester, etc.)3. Do wear a static discharge wrist strap (TK P/N 204-622) with the lead end connected to the controller’s ground terminal. These straps are available at most electronic equipment distributors. DO NOT wear these straps with power applied to the unit4. Avoid contacting the electronic components on the circuit board of the unit being serviced.5. Leave the circuit boards in their static proof packing material until ready for installation.6. If a defective controller is to be returned for repair, it should be returned in the same static protective packing materials from which the replacement component was removed.7. After servicing the circuit board and any other circuits, the wiring should be checked for possible errors before restoring power.

Unit DecalsSerial number decals, refrigerant type decals and warning decals appear on all Thermo King equipment. These decals provide information that may be needed to service or repair the unit. Service technicians should read and follow the instructions on all warning decals.

MP-4000 Test Hardware

To run the test software a PC running WindowsTM with at least the following specification is needed:

EITHER: • Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows 10 • Processor ( CPU ): Pentium 4 and above • Ram: 512 Mbyte • Harddrive: 200 Mbyte • Graphics adaptor: 32 bit • Screen resolution: 800x600 • Input/output: 1 free serial port (COM)

OR: • LogMan II (JCI Part no:. 1189-004 or 1189-006) Hand Held device (PSION Workabout Pro) with 256 MB storage capacity

How to install the program:Download and install test software from: http://www.emersonclimate.com/en-us/products/container_monitoring/pages/mp-4000_tester.aspx.It is recommended to follow the defaults given during setup.

How to configure the program:When you run the program for the first time you may need to configure some settings as stated below. • Select the serial communication port to use in the setting menu. • Select logfile path.

Note: The test does not perform a 100% safe test since a few functions cannot be tested automatically. The following describe functions where the test is not 100% and addi-tional effort must be made to locate the problem:

Controller:The MP-4000 Tester cannot replace the skills of an experienced reefer service engineer, but might be a useful tool in determining the correct function of major items.

Note: The tester will test only MP-4000 Products.

Before Using the Tester

Before using the tester, always study the Thermo King Container Product Bulletins. All relevant Bulleting can be found on the Thermo King dealer web site: http://www.thermoking.com.

The following inspections must be carried out before connecting the tester: • Examine the unit for physical damage. • Examine the unit for corrosion damages. • Check that all connectors are properly inserted. • Make sure that the Controller is loaded with the newest Software, and if not, then update the Software.

Note: When connecting the MP-4000 Tester, please carefully note the position of the original cables and plugs. After completing the test reinstall the original cables and plugs in their original positions.

Caution: MOTOR LOADS WILL START during Power Module testing!
