Ayodhya: city of salvation On the banks of River Sarayu, Ayodhya has witnessed centuries of history and embraces a significant cultural landscape. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, holds place of pride among the disciples of Shri Ram, descendant of Surya dynasty. One of the seven sacred – salvation endowing (Mokshadayini Sapta Puris) cities, Ayodhya is religiously important not only for Hindus, but also for Buddhists and Jains since Gautama Buddha and Mahavira visited in the city as mentioned in their canonical texts. With the development of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, it is anticipated that the city will spearhead to a global tourism platform. The city witnessed over 2 crore tourists in year 2019 from around the world and will see a multi-fold rise in the tourist and pilgrims in the coming years owing to the temple and rejuvenated spiritual and ecological tourism attractions. The State Govt. of Uttar Pradesh has prepared a vision for Ayodhya to be developed as the Global Spiritual Capital by 2047.

Vision for the city The potential of Ayodhya to be on global religious map is evident. Completion of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple will change the economy of Ayodhya by creating new opportunities for people, particularly in tourism and allied sectors. Various developmental activities are expected to trigger growth in tourists and residents of Ayodhya. The Hon. Prime Minister of India, and the Hon. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh envision that Ayodhya should manifest the finest of Indian traditions and the best of India’s new-age infrastructure. They emphasize on extensive participation of Yuva Shakti (power of the youth) to create the state-of-the-art infrastructure in Ayodhya making this city a vibrant mix of ancient and modern. They have echoed that, “The human character of Ayodhya must be matched by futuristic infrastructure which is beneficial for everyone. Ayodhya has to be developed as a city by and for every Indian that is etched in the cultural consciousness of every citizen. Future generations should feel the desire to visit Ayodhya at least once in their lifetime. It is our collective endeavour to celebrate the identity of Ayodhya and keep the cultural vibrancy alive through innovative ways. The development works of Ayodhya should be guided by the spirit of healthy public participation especially by the youth.”

It is evident that the city of Ayodhya has begun its next leap of progress now, with a vision to weave the new-age infrastructure characterised by youth and community participation around its revered age-old ethos of Sanatan Dharma, at the core.

By the people, for the people

Inspired with the same vision, Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA), the nodal agency responsible for planned and sustainable development of Ayodhya, is undertaking many projects, initiatives and programs in infrastructure, transport, ecology, heritage, tourism, city branding, public amenities and housing and accommodation sectors. The vision, strategies and sector wise objectives for the city are being formulated which will help the city to develop in a more organised and planned manner. With the ambition to imbibe the ability of Lord Shri Ram, to bring people together for the collective development, ADA intends to maximize the participation especially from the youth, nationally and internationally. As an initial step, the ADA is launching International Level Competitions for designing a) Ayodhya City Logo – As a mark of brand and identity of Ayodhya.b) City Welcome Gates – As city entry points from multiple directions based on Nav Dwara Concept.c) Signage for the city – For better public movement, legibility and highlighting its culture, ethos and plurality. This being a lifetime opportunity to participate in the making of “Ayodhya: A global spiritual capital.”
