Ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change: what role for policy-makers, society and scientists? This ecosystem-based approach to adaptation was the focus of an internationa l workshop on “Ada pta tion to Cli mat e Change: the role of Ecosystem Services ” held in November 2008 in Costa Rica. The 80 pa rti cipant s came fro m 24 cou ntr ies (mo stl y Lat in Ame ric an) and 56 ins tit uti ons (lo cal communitie s, NGOs, scie ntific orga nizat ions , gove rnme nt agen cies, publi c and priva te firms, and international agencies for cooperation) to discuss the role of ecosystem services in adaptation to climate change.
