AHEAD OF THE LEARNING CURVE IN THIS ISSUE
“Platform number?” “The train is
arriving on platform 3, I think.”
These were the general remarks to be
heard as we, a group of 94 people,
embarked on a five day adventure
trip to the Pench National Park,
Madhya Pradesh. On reaching the
Nagpur railway station, the next day,
we boarded
a
bus and set forth on another long
journey to the Pench National Park.
We breakfasted on the way and
reached the Mahua Vann resort,
located close to the renowned tiger
reserve. There, we were divided into
groups of six, each in an open gypsy.
As we entered the reserve, the silence
grew while we looked keenly around
to spot the big cat or any other wild
animal. Deeper into the forest, we
saw lots of spotted deer, peacock and
langurs (monkeys). We also saw the
Pench River where the ‘Water Truce’
was shot in the movie – The Jungle
Book. The next day, we sat in the
gypsy again at dawn and drove to the
reserve for another safari, this time
taking another route inside the vast
forest. Again we saw herds of spotted
deer and monkeys. We also saw a
herd of bison. The guide told us that
you could always identify these great
animals by the ‘white socks’ they

had on their legs. We spotted a
greyish-white jackal, who on
seeing us bounded away and
disappeared into the wilderness.
The morning wore on but
there was no sign
of the tiger.
Suddenly
the guide
stopped the
gypsy and we
heard a monkey
screeching. The guide told us that
when monkeys behave like this,
they are usually warning others of
a leopard or a tiger.
With the early morning sun
breaking through the trees, we
waited as the tranquility and
serenity of the forest set in, only to
be broken by the shrill screeches
of the monkey. Soon, we had to
move on as there was no other
sign of the wild cat. However,
soon afterwards, we got to know
that one of the gypsies had seen
two
leopards,
calm and poised
sitting on a rock. The
afternoon was spent in
swimming, playing kabaddi,
cricket and tug of war. The night
brought out songs on our lips as
we sang and played antakshari
around a bonfire.
After a good night’s sleep, we got
on our bus and left for Mahi
Adventure Camp. We were
briefed on what activities we were
going to do. We started with the
zip line. After the zip line, with
the wind still whistling in our ears,
we worked our way through the
Burma Bridge and Ladder Bridge.
We also learned how to hold a
rifle, load, aim and to shoot,
though none of us could hit the
target. The humidity of Nagpur
got to us and so the rain dance
with music and a DJ came as a
relief after a long day’s
exertion. As the night sky
filled up with stars and
constellations, that could
have never been spotted in
the city, all of us gathered
around a roaring bonfire for
another night of dance and music.
The next morning, we rose with
the sun and set out for trekking in
the
forest for 2 kms. The trekking was
invigorating and a lot of fun as we
jumped over small streams of
water, though we landed in them
most of the times! We climbed
large rocks and finally reached the
top of the small hill, from where
the view was simply electrifying.
You could see the sun rise from
within the trees, a most wondrous
sight!
Tired out, we returned to the camp
and after breakfast, got on to the
bus to the Nagpur airport. As we
boarded the plane back to

Deccan Trails: Adventuresome!
Hyderabad, we could think of
nothing but these five days of pure
fun and of the great outdoors,
away from the everyday
classrooms in school. It certainly
was a memorable trip that we will
cherish all our lives.
- Sachi Bhanap, Class VIII
The chill in the morning air couldn’t dampen the excitement of the adventurous kids who set out for an overnight trip to Deccan Trails.
The students of grades IV, V and VI set out to Vikarabad
early on the morning of 1st October. The welcoming gates of Deccan Trails, set in the foothills of the Anantagiri Hills, signaled the adventure they were about to experience.
The students were all divided into teams and each team took turns
on the Zip line, Burma Bridge and rock climbing. After lunch, all of them enjoyed a game of Tug of War and passing the Hoola Hoop.
The best part of the trip was the bonfire which was a unique experience for the students who

are only used to the neon lights in the malls of Hyderabad.
After a little sleep, the eager
campers set out to scale the hills.
The trekking of the hills was
a lot of fun for all the students
who didn’t mind waking up early
on a Sunday morning. Tired from
all the adventure, the campers
relished a sumptuous breakfast
and soon it was time for them to
start back. The journey back
home was equally enjoyable as
the campers didn’t seem to have
enough of the time with their
friends. By the time, the buses
entered the school campus, the
parents had already been waiting
for their children. Everyone had a
big smile on their faces indicating
they had had a great fun.
“So that is why the liquid changes
its colour”, concluded Tina. Isn’t
it the intriguing part about science,
the way it takes us upon a voyage
to another world… completely
filled with elements, chemicals,
discoveries and inventions?! After
being exposed to the world of
science, one question often crosses
my mind ‘what is science?’
According to Google, it is the
intellectual and practical activity
encompassing the systematic
study of the structure and behavior
of the physical and natural world
through observation and
experimenting. But for me science
is poetry, it is a way of thinking.

Journey to the world of Sparkling Stars
Is science a mere observation or
more than that? As if to clear all
my doubts, The Global Edge
School organized ‘Scienstein’ -
the Science Week. It presented to
us a ticket for a voyage into the
world of science where we got to
explore, experience and evolve.
The journey was filled with
curiosity and enthusiasm. For
every experiment we had a planet
of questions revolving in our head
and asking us ‘why’? Every
student experimented, invented,
and discovered something new.
The best of all inventions and
experiments, was the invention of
sun tracking machine, it consisted
of a solar panel which rotated
towards the direction of the solar
energy when it received the
sunlight automatically. This one
creation made an indelible mark
on my heart that anything is
possible with one thought!
The eminent scientist Albert
Einstein told ‘imagination is more
important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited. Imagination
encircles the world’, so invention
is not always based on knowledge,
it requires a huge amount of
imagination.
This proves that with a touch of
hard work, one thought is enough
to pave the way to solve most
problems that plague this world.
- Prathiba, Class VIII
Field trips offer a shared social experience that provides an opportunity for students to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic setting. While this is true for concepts of the real world, virtual simulation is the alternative for understanding the celestial world.
The students of grades II and III were taken to the Birla Planetarium to understand the topics ‘Earth’s neighbours’ and ‘Solar System’ The inquisitive minds gained and insight about
the different planets in the Solar System.
After the interesting show in the planetarium, the students were taken to a 3D show about the life of aquatic animals and this turned out to be a huge hit with the eager minds.
BIRLA PLANETARIUM
B M Birla Planetarium is one of the best attended Planetaria in the world, it has also been acclaimed to be the amongst the very best with a better rating than those in Europe or USA.

Saluting the Missile Man
Indian Police Martyrs Memorial Run
Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen (APJ) Abdul Kalam, India's 11th President was not just another President but the 'People's President'.
A man who was named 'Missile Man' for his contribution in developing ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology also became an inspiration for
everyone specially the 'youth' for his ideas and vision on education and dreams. October 15th was the 85th birth anniversary of this great man. We, at The Global Edge, could not let this day go by. The students of class V A presented a special assembly on this occasion.
They showcased a few highlights from Kalam’s life and also reiterated some of his most famous sayings.
Our paying tribute to him is like showing a torch to the sun but remembering this great Indian wakes up the dormant zeal in us to achieve great heights.
Telangana State Police set up the
Indian Police Martyrs Memorial
Run (IPMMR) remembering the
brave men and women who
sacrificed their lives in the line of
duty to uphold our safety.
The event was organized in
affiliation with the Ministry of
home Affairs, India. This was an
initiative to build an interface
among the police and residents.
The students and staff of The
Global Edge School proudly took
part in 2K, 5K and 10K runs and
showed that they salute the
Indian Police and respect the
sacrifice of the Police.

How Music Affects our Brain - Hrishitha Rayapati, IX-C
All of us like listening to music or playing it. Music is an entertainment for us and also benefits us in many positive ways. Listening to music radiates joy and calms your nerves. It changes your mood, gets you motivated and sometimes also helps you to concentrate. When we listen to a song with a good beat, we like dancing. When we listen to a song that is quiet and peaceful, we want to lie down and cherish the moment and when we listen to sad songs, we automatically get depressed.
This is because we can sometimes understand the emotions within a piece of music and feel them that is why we experience mood changes upon hearing different kinds of music. Music choices can also tell a person about your personality. If you listen to a motivational and calm song, then you get influenced by those songs and get self motivated. However, when you listen to a sad or depressing song, you only see the badness of the world and not the joy. Did you know that music also helps you exercise better? It makes a work sound fun that you might feel is otherwise quite laborious. When we exercise, our body becomes more active after listening to music. But after sometime of doing any work our body feels tired and sends our brain a signal to relax and take a break. Music is an amazing brain exercise that activates every part of our brain. It helps you reduce stress and keeps you happy.
Terrorism - Thrinayan Ravirala, IX - C
I am sure, we all have heard about the URI attack, where 19 soldiers of the Indian army were killed. They were killed by people so called “TERRORISTS” in our world. These terrorists are normal people like us, who take up the path of terrorism. Terrorism is the use of violence and illegal means to achieve desired aim. Today, it is considered a major threat to the countries of the world. Nations are launching high level operation to eradicate terrorist groups. A disagreement between two countries can spark the idea of terrorism in the minds of the people. Acts of terrorism takes a lot of lives such as 9/11 attack in America. A lot of peace treaties have been signed between countries, but this doesn’t seem to have an effect in reducing terrorism.
The solution to this plague in our realm would be the total elimination of terrorists and preventing the setting of terrorist groups!
Surprises
- Neysa Fernandes
The surprises that we guess, we will never find out,
They will never be told, even if we plead or pout,
If we try to find the surprise in the middle of the night,
It wouldn’t be a surprise, and it wouldn’t be right,
That’s why we should never remove the knots or ties,
And wait till the next day, for it to be a surprise!

A Goodbye and A Hello
- Mrs Anju Madan, Principal
“If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will
reward you with a new hello” wrote Paulo Coehlo,
and he has hit the bull’s eye with this quote where
Global Edge is concerned. Life has always been, but a
collection of good byes and hellos! We said good bye
to “EuroSchool” and a hello to “Global Edge” and
what an amazing hello that has been! And now we
say good bye to Vittal Rao Nagar to embrace and say
a huge hello to Jai Hind Enclave.
It is very true that one has to be extremely brave to
say good bye. It wasn’t easy to say good bye to 10
years of sweet memories, cherish able moments of
glory and achievement, tears of joys and failure. So
many memories painstakingly collected over a period
of 10 years. Every nook and cranny had a story to tell.
Here little toddlers metamorphosed into bright
young girls and boys all set to take on the world and
its challenges. Years passed us by and we grew from
strength to strength. The Global Edge School
Madhapur was now a sought after brand.
The journey came with its fair share of challenges and
obstacles, but the glories and celebrations were far
more which kept our spirits soaring and high. The
enthusiasm of the kids, their exuberating positive
energy, and the relentless support of our parents
made us grow from a startup to a brand. These
challenges and celebrations marked our 10 year long
journey and then came the hard task of bidding adieu
to our much loved “old building”
Undoubtedly emotional tears were shed; farewell
parties thrown, unending clicks of cameras and
phones to capture every room, every space, and
every small and big moment were being captured for
posterity. Even though there was the nervousness
and the apprehension of moving there was also the
excitement and anticipation of new beginnings.
While we said good bye teary eyed, we said hello with
big grins and wide eyed amazement as we happily
embraced our new premises.
We took to each other like duck to water. Kids and
teachers alike were super excited about the new
premises, the serene colours, the new classrooms,
the welcoming corridors everything amazed them.
There was boundless positive energy all around.
Everything new was so comfortable and soothing it
just engulfed the whole school in its warm and
welcoming embrace.
As we bid farewell to our old premise we thank it
from the very depths of our heart for nurturing us and
protecting us all these years, we remain forever
indebted.
And now a big hug and hello to our new premise, we
are ever thankful and grateful for its presence as we
write new chapters of success and achievements of
our lives. We are ready to create better, sweeter and
greater memories… “We must be willing to let go of
the life we had planned, so as to have the life that is
waiting for us!
