Our Products
![Page 5: GLOBAL PRESENCE | LOCAL SERVICE Europe Brochure_F_web… · The company produces chemical products that are essential to manufacturing of over 70,000 consumer and industrial products](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022042119/5e9801dd0e9827639554f052/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Every day, products from Chevron
Phillips Chemical are used in
applications to provide solutions that
help reduce environmental impact,
advance safety or improve health.
Below are a few examples found all
over the world.
PRODUCTS THAT REDUCE
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
• K-Resin® SBC, alone or in blends
with crystal polystyrene, consumes
less energy throughout its life cycle
when compared to other non-
styrenic clear resins. This means
more parts are produced per pound
and fewer products go into the
waste or recycle streams. In fact,
K-Resin® SBC boasts a 20-30
percent yield advantage over non-
styrenic clear resins.
• Marlex®polyethylene is used in the
manufacture of automobile parts
including coolant, brake & window
washer fluid reservoirs, air
conditioning ducts, fuel tank
components, bed liners and auto
body panels, making cars
lighterand consuming less energy.
• MarFlex® polyethylene
is used in flexible
packaging that
reduces food
waste by
extending
the shelf-life of
pre-packaged
fresh produce, meats, cheeses and
bakery items. Flexible packaging
made with MarFlex® polyethylene
also provides more efficient
transportation of packaging to filling
sites. As an example, the use of
flexible packaging for pasta sauces
reduced the number of unfilled
package truckloads from 26 for
unfilled glass jars to one for an
equal number of unfilled plastic
pouches.
• Low viscocity grades of Synfluid®
polyalphaolefins allow our customer
to produce bio-based aerobically
biodegradable lubricants with
excellent product properties when
blended with vegetable oils. PAOs
also allow formulators to produce
energy efficient synthetic engine
oils with long drain intervals, both of
which provide environmental
benefits by reducing fuel
consumption and reducing the
amount of waste oil.
PRODUCTS THAT IMPROVE
SAFETY
• Scentinel® gas odorants are used
as stenching agents for natural gas
and propane to provide gas users
an effective and inexpensive
warning system for leaks in their
gas delivery system.
• Marlex® high density polyethylene
is used in crash barrier cushions
used during road construction.
PRODUCTS THAT IMPROVE
HEALTH
• Ethylthioethanol (ETE) is a key
ingredient in an anti-diarrheal drug
called Tinidazole. Chevron Phillips
Chemical’s Tessenderlo facility is
the only source in the world for
ETE.
• Marlex® polyethylene
geomembrane pond and landfill
liners are used to prevent leaching,
water contamination and cracking.
• PA-18 Polyanhydride Resin (PA-
18) acts as a waterproofing agent
in sunscreen and is gentle enough
to be used in children’s
formulations.
• K-Resin® SBC can be used in food
packaging to retard deterioration
and extend the shelf-life of
prepacked fresh produce. In some
cases, produce can stay fresher for
up to 20 percent longer, or up to 16
days, using K-Resin® SBC
packaging technology. Additionally,
K-Resin® SBC is used in a variety
of medical devices and surgical
instruments.

We recognize that to grow our
business and meet the increasing
global demand for petrochemicals,
we must do so in a manner that
protects the world’s land, water and
air resources. We have assessed
baseline emissions, and our ongoing
monitoring demonstrates that our
energy efficiency measures have
resulted in lower emissions and a
reduced carbon footprint.
Chevron Phillips Chemical facilities
in our region are finding innovative
ways to recycle and lower their
environmental footprint.
WATER CONSERVATION
Our Specialty Chemicals facility
in Tessenderlo, Belgium completed
a water conservation project that
benefits not only the facility, but the
community at large.
The Tessenderlo facility devised a
plan for separating fresh rainwater
from wastewater in order to limit the
amount of wastewater entering the
public sewer system. To accomplish
their goal, the plant built one
additional wastewater pond, one
additional rain water pond, two
infiltration ponds where clean
rainwater can infiltrate into the ground
and installed 1,500 meters of new
sewer piping. The infiltration ponds
have a 100 meter buffer zone next to
the plant which evolved into a green
space and natural habitat for local
wildlife.
CLEAN SWEEP
Chevron Phillips Chemical recognizes
the importance of preventing the loss
of resin pellets into the environment
and is an active participant in
Operation Clean Sweep® through
PlasticsEurope.
As an Operation Clean Sweep®
program partner, Chevron Phillips
Chemical strives for zero pellet
loss by organizing its worksites to
prevent spills and regularly auditing
performance to make sure each
facility meets or exceeds goals related
to the sustainable practice.
In addition to complying with all
applicable local and national
regulations governing pellet
containment, Chevron Phillips
Chemical provides employee training
and accountability for spill prevention,
containment, clean-up and disposal of
pellets, and encourages its partners,
including contractors, transporters and
distributors, to support the program,
as well.

REACH
Chevron Phillips Chemical remains
vigilant in its effort to comply with
all aspects of the European Union’s
REACH (Registration, Evaluation,
Authorization and restriction of
Chemicals) regulation. REACH was
adopted to improve the protection of
human health and the environment
from the risks that can be posed
by chemicals, while enhancing the
competitiveness of the European
Union (EU) chemicals industry.
To comply with the regulation,
companies must identify and manage
the risks linked to the substances
they manufacture and market in the
EU. They have to demonstrate how
the substance can be safely used,
and they must communicate the risk
management measures to the users.
REACH Compliance is a multiyear
process and is designed as
a registration-phased approach.
Chevron Phillips Chemical has
successfully registered substances
required to be registered in 2010
and 2013 and is working toward
completion of the third tier registration
due in 2018.
LOGISTICS SERVICE
In order to increase further the
logistics safety within the overall
chemical industry, Chevron Phillips
Chemical – as an active member of
CEFIC (European Chemical Industry
Council) - has also participated in
the CEFIC / ECTA workgroup on the
development of best practices and
guidelines for the safe transportation
of chemicals.
This has resulted in a new published
document (2014) which offers best
practice guidance regarding the
safety of loading and unloading
operations of road freight vehicles
from a technical, behavioral and
organizational point of view.
The objective of these guidelines is to
provide assistance in the prevention
or elimination of unsafe conditions
and situations during (un)loading
operations by promoting best practice,
recognizing the need for interaction
between the different parties involved.
The scope of these guidelines
includes
the safe loading and unloading of
chemical products by operators and
drivers at production sites, storage
terminals, warehouses and customers.
They cover the transport of liquid bulk,
dry bulk as well as packed goods.
AEO CERTIFICATION
