Causes: driven by international trade & investment made easier by information technology which connects distant people.

Effects: on the health of the environment, strength of culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world.

Information and communications technology (ICT) or information technology (IT), provide unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers, and the companies that provide the service.

( connect to wider markets, increase personal/national income, access to diverse non local foods) CONS: Opponents of globalization claim that the creation of an unfettered international free market has benefited multinational corporations in the Western world at the expense of local enterprises, local cultures, and common people. ( child labour, sweat shop exploitation, outsourcing jobs, international black markets )

Issues with Globalization:

Global Trade: competitiveness and offshoring/outsourcing, labour exploitation.

 Movement of people: immigration, westernization cultural diffusion, disease spread

 Environmental Challenges: climate change , resource consumption, travel

Conflict: Ideologies and natural resource control

Can be broken down into the 3 C’s:Connection: Transportation, Communications, migration& spread of material and non material culture.

Competition: Economic growth/decline, natural resource exploitation, multinationals & terrorism.

Cooperation: International Aid, Trade agreements
