wrote all his plays• Took 6 months to build• The theatre was also used for gambling

not just plays• Was built by Peter Smith• Bubonic Plague was a terrible outbreak

it forced the theatre to closed 4 different times and killed 20,000 people

What Happened?• London's authorities banned the public

presentation of plays  and all theaters within the city limits of London. 

• All theaters located in the City were told to move to the South side of the River Thames. 

• The Globe then was not in use until 1613, when on June 29 a fire broke out 

• The roof caught on fire and burned to the ground

• The casualties were never known

Reconstruction the the globe theater 

• new theater was built in the same location only 350 years later (1614)

• Scholars and architects looked information regarding the old building to reconstruct a replica of the old theatre.

• size of site: 1.2 acre for the project

• the stage is still made of hard waxed wood with all he trap door effects as the old stage
