I Need More…Good News

S pring is around the corner. Soon the daylight will be longer, the snow will melt, the robins will re-

turn, the grass will turn green, and the flower will bloom. It’s a delightful time. It reminds us of life and our God. Let each day remind you that the God who has made and continues to preserve all things is the same God who has redeemed you by His Son’s blood and has sent His Holy Spirit to set you apart to be His very own. Let that thought put a spring in your step.

Indeed, we live in frazzled

and frustrated times. Just

turn on the nightly news.

So frequently we are given

reports of events that have

devastated property and

lives; are told about individ-

uals that have deviated

from law and order; and

hear of other stories that

dampen our spirits. On a

regular basis, most of the

news is not good news, and

a depressed sigh first finds

solace in the silence of a

turned-off television.

Turns out, though, that we

don’t have to turn on a TV

to know that. We don’t

even need to be near it. As

our consciences rerun the

past, we see where our own

deviations have had a devas-

tating impact. As a direct re-

sult, our spirits are damp-

ened and depressed. Even

life-long Christians feel the

sting of past sins as their

consciences cry a guilty tes-

timony. That’s the “news” we

know by nature. That’s God’s

Law on sinful hearts, and

that’s why stricken hearts

crave more good news.

The calm to the craving is

not attained by turning off;

we get it by tuning in. The

answer is not in blocking

out God’s Word or dulling

our consciences by making

We’d love to have ALL 6th through 12th graders join us for

Youth Group! It’s a fun evening of Bible lessons, lots of

fun games, and, of course, snacks! If you have any ques-

tions please speak with Allen or Laura Mortimer.

We will meet on the following dates:

March 12 March 21

April 16 April 30

Hope to see YOU there!

Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study

The March Men's Breakfast is scheduled for

Saturday, March 28, at 8:00am. There is a sign

up sheet on the bulletin board.

poor excuses. The solution is still found in what God’s good news says to every individ-

ual—even to you. The calm, promise, and solution remains the message of the gospel!

Hearts are calmed at the message of Christ for us! And it’s in that message the apostle

Paul, a very real sinner, would have sinners still take comfort and confidence. As he lift-

ed Timothy’s eyes and heart to the grace of the cross, so he lifts ours: “Here is a trust-

worthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to

save sinners—of whom I am the worst” (1 Timothy 1:15).

Craving more good news? Forgiven sinner, tune in to the Savior who carried your every

sin! See him in his Word! Redeemed believer, tune in to the gospel—God’s good news

that quiets sin’s accusations! Hear that saving message! Beloved child of God, tune in to

the trustworthy message of the Bible and let your heart sigh with thanksgiving. Jesus

came to save sinners. Jesus came to save you! That’s the good news!

Read if for yourself in your Bible. Hear, learn, and celebrate it at Gloria Dei. Gather in

worship each Sunday morning and on Wednesday nights during Lent. Crave it. Enjoy it.

And stay tuned in!

I Need More…Good News

If you’re planning on being

here for the spring cleaning

you are more than welcome to

join the men for breakfast.

Please sign up on the bulletin

board so the cooks know how

much to prepare.

MIDWEEK LENTEN SERIES

The Son of God Goes Forth to War

Many picture Jesus in robes, holding a shepherd's staff and guiding his sheep. Others see him crowned and bright, sitting on a

throne in heaven. Less commonly today, we recognize him as the brave and often-opposed soldier the Word tells us he is.

This Lenten midweek sermon series is entitled: The Son of God Goes Forth to War. We will take a thoughtful look at

Christ's role as a warrior by reflecting on Scripture's telling of the battle against sin and death that Jesus fought and won for

us. This year will be exchanging pulpits only with Emanuel, Flint Township. Pastor Himm and Pastor Schmidt will help us

focus on the tremendous courage, humility, and power of our Savior--and his ultimate victory! Wednesday night Lenten

meals will be served at 6 pm, followed by worship at 7 pm. Let us not give up meeting together as we spur one another on

to love and good deeds.

March 4 – The Promised Warrior Isaiah 42:13 (Pastor Schmidt)

March 11 – Reconnaissance Report: Know Your Enemy Ephesians 6:12 (Pastor Himm)

March 18 – Skirmishes Hebrews 4:15 (Pastor Schmidt)

March 25 – The Warrior Faces Satan’s Ally—the World John 18:38 (Pastor Himm)

April 1 - The Warrior Rejected by Many Followers John 6:66-68 (Pastor Schmidt)

CONTRA-DANCE March 21

2pm - 4pm Caller, Ed Vincent, is an experienced contra and family

dance caller from the Ann Arbor area. He likes to

make the dance experience fun for one and all. Dances of all levels, including no experience at all, are wel-

come. All the dances and figures will be on the easy

side and the footwork will be simple. So, please join us

on March 21 at 2pm for a fun-filled afternoon of tradi-

tional American dancing to live music. It’s going to be

fun for the WHOLE family! There is no charge, how-

ever there will be a free will donation and you’re

asked to bring a dessert or appetizer. There is a sign-

up sheet on the bulletin board.

Are you ready for an adventure? Michigan Lutheran Seminary presents Pan!, an adaption of the J.M. Barrie's classic tale of the boy who never grows up. Three children follow a strange and wonderful boy to the magical world of Neverland. There they find both friends and foes as they encounter oth-er lost children, a warrior tribe, a gang of wily pirates, and a ticking crocodile. But are they really ready to leave home forever? Special performances of Pan! will be given for grade school audiences on Friday, March 13. The public performance will be on Saturday, March 14 at 7:00 pm.

Mark your calendars for an evening of fun for the whole family!
