DECEMBER 24, 2017 F OURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT

from the Pastor’s Desk...

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Sunday night we celebrate the Solemn Feast of the Birth

of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. We receive Him into our

Hearts and Homes, and we seek to Share His Love to All

we meet this Holy Season. In that Spirit, I wish to share

this bulletin space with our parish Seminarians who have

written their own personal messages to each of you.

May God’s blessings be yours this Christmas! Fr. Ireland

Hello Parishioners of Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Merry Christmas! I hope this season finds you

well, and sharing in the joy of the shepherds in finding

the Christ child. I am glad to be home for the next few

weeks, and I look forward to catching up with many of

you at the parish.

Things are going well for me in my second year

at Borromeo Seminary, and with continued discernment

and prayer, I believe it is the best place for me to

continue my journey. The new bishop of Cleveland,

Bishop Perez, has energized Borromeo and St. Mary’s

Seminaries with his frequent visits and caring support.

Please keep us seminarians and Bishop Perez in your

prayers as we discern and prepare to serve the diocese,

and he leads it.

The Nativity story is a story of trust. Mary

trusted in the Lord’s plan for her life, even though the

plan was unexpected and startling! Her faith in God and

His plan for her life enabled her to give her “fiat”, that

is, her yes to God’s will which set in motion man’s

redemption. Joseph also trusted in the Lord and His

plan when the angel came to him in a dream and told

him to take Mary into his home, although, like Mary I

am sure Joseph was surprised by the situation. The

shepherds and the magi also demonstrated trust by

listening to and acting on the message of the angels, and

following the star, respectively.

I certainly draw strength during the seasons of

Advent and Christmas from these examples of trust.

They help me meditate on the beauty and goodness that

inevitably follows from trusting in the Lord’s plan no

matter how radical it seems.

Let us pray for the faith to always trust in the

Lord’s plan in our life, knowing that His way always

leads to our greatest fulfillment. Know of my continued

prayers for you all, and have a most blessed and joyous

Christmas season!

In Christ, Joe McCarron

Dear Faithful of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish,

May the peaceful joy of the Infant Christ be with you

and your families on this most blessed Christmas day.

A man once told me upon hearing the sweetly chanted

melody of Jesu Redemptor omnium, the hymn which Holy

Mother Church sings to us each Christmas in her sacred

Liturgy, that if he only had its tune ever in his ear, he would

never sin again. So innocent, so pure, so holy, it is as if the

notes did float down from heaven like virgin snow to bring

peace each year to the world Christ came to save, and to save

from sin.

If its melody might fade with the season's passing, I

pray its words remain yours and keep you always:

Jesus, Redeemer of all Mankind,

before even the light was created

You were begotten by the almighty Father,

as His equal in glory.

You O light and splendor of the Father

You O unfailing hope of all,

Accept the prayers of your faithful,

your servants, the world over.

Remember, O Creator of all things,

that long ago, at Your birth in time,

You took the form of us, our body

from the Virgin's holy womb.

The present day, as it comes again,

bears witness to this one Truth,

that You, the only-begotten of the Father,

have come to save our souls.

The stars, the lands, and the seas,

and every creature under heaven's gaze,

sing to You a new song,

as the author of our salvation.

And so therefore do we,

cleased by your holy Blood,

make this gift of a hymn of praise

on your most holy birthday.

Glory be to You, O Jesus,

born of the Virgin pure,

and glory to the Father and the loving Spirit,

through endless ages. Amen.

May you find true peace in the "little graces" of a most

blessed Christmastide, and may the blessed Virgin Mary,

Mother of the Church, keep you ever near her divine Infant

Son.

Thanking you for your continued prayers, while

assuring you wholeheartedly of mine for you and your families

during this most holy Season and throughout the New Year of

grace, 2018, I remain,

Yours most devotedly in the Sacred Heart of our Holy Infant King,

Deacon Matthew Weaver

Parishioners, Families, and Friends:

The students and faculty at Corpus Christi Academy had a

busy December this year. We started the month with the

Penguin Patch and a Merry Christmas Breakfast with Santa

that brought parents and students together at CCA. We

thank the 8th grade CCA students and volunteers from

NDCL, as well as the PTG members who were instrumental

in making the event a success. The Academy had their first

“Literacy Night” for students and families in Preschool

through 5th grade. A huge thanks to Ms. Shipley and Mrs.

Gerisek for all of their hard work. The month continued

with a wonderful Music Concert at Campus West brought to

us by Mrs. Mast and her music classes. We then heard

melodious sounds from Mr. Trost’s CCA band performers.

We had an impressive assembly sponsored by PTG: “A

Juggler’s Christmas Story” presented by Mr. Tom Sparrow.

Lastly, our Advent retreat called us to reflect on the true

meaning of Christmas this year.

On behalf of the Faculty, Staff, and Student Body at Corpus

Christi Academy: We would like to wish the parishioners of

Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Clare, our families, and our

friends a very Merry Christmas and well wishes for a

successful 2018!

NEW ... CONTRIBUTIONS FOR

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

BEGINNING JANUARY, 2018.

Envelopes for monthly contributions to our NEW

and On-going Capital Improvement program

will be included in this month’s regular packet of

offertory envelopes.

Funds collected will be used for specific projects

to keep our Parish buildings and property in good

order and will be kept in a separate Credit Union

account until needed. The first projects to begin

next spring are:

Church exterior: brick tuck pointing &repairs

Parking lots & driveways: repairs & repainting

In the past, these projects have been funded

throuogh the offertory collection and other

funding sources. However, with the many other

operating costs of the Parish, it is sometimes

difficult to find enough money to complete

necessary capital improvements and repairs in a

timely manner. This new fund is designed to

raise much-needed money for specific projects.

Periodically, we will let you know how the Fund

and the Projects are doing.

We ask that you be as generous as possible,

without decreasing your regular weekly offertory.

May God bless you for your

prayerful consideration of this

important Parish initiative.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE …

Collection 12/17/17: $ 9,465.60 12-wk. Avg: $10,191.00

Collection 12/18/16: $12,381.53 12-wk. Avg: $10,055.00

Direct Deposit for the month of November: $2,350.00

To all of you who support our parish regularly through

the use of your contribution envelopes and direct

deposits: Thank You!!

Father Ireland

Parents: We still need some encouragement for the young

ones to learn the example of giving regularly to the support

of their Church.

We invite you to consider a very easy way to make regular

contributions to your parish. AUTOMATIC GIVING

could be the answer. Contact Eileen Gerome

(216.382.7601).

Also, we call your attention to the notice of a new envelope

being included in your envelope packets beginning in

January (see adjacent article for details of the Capital

Improvements Program).

It’s that time again when working folks minds turn to

“IRS”, “UNCLE SAM”, what do I owe? What? I can’t

owe that much!!! … and many more random phrases that

remind us Income Tax Reporting time is just around the

corner. Some of the fortunate ones who can still itemize

deductions will be asking us for a statement of church

contributions for 2017. (to be prepared, upon request, after

January 20, 2018.)

Please note: The IRS has very clear rules as to when a

charity can recognize a year-end gift. Checks must be

written, dated and postmarked by December 31 in order

to qualify as a 2017 contribution.

ALL CHECKS collected through the offertory baskets

MUST BE recorded as contributions on the date they are

received, regardless of the date on the check.

UPDATE: GIVING TREE PROJECT 2017

This week we received a note from Mrs. Marilyn Buckley, writing on behalf of the Women’s Guild,

who expressed sincere gratitude to all of you who helped with the Giving Tree, donated the lovely

and useful items given to the Fatima Center, or gave gifts to Birthright for infants and expectant

mothers. It was obvious that much thought and time was given when purchases were made ~

choosing items that babies and children of all ages were sure to need and like.

When the Fatima Center bus came to pick up the gifts, it was already packed so full that the drive could barely

see out of the window! There were so many things donated to Birthright that the driver had to make two trips to deliver

everything. Once again, parishioners and friends of the parish were extremely generous. The children are sure to have a very

nice Christmas, indeed. May God bless each of you for your kindness.

Have a gift to offer??? Can you help???

We need individuals to …

proclaim the Word of God

distribute Holy Communion

join the choir

assist the priest at Mass as altar

servers

Yes, we are still seeking that person who can

organize the monthly donut Sunday events from

the starting of the coffee pot to turning out the

lights … one person is out there somewhere. If it

is YOU … please call soon.
