Glorifying God by … Reaching, Building, Serving June 2014 From The Pastor... HERE COMES THE SON Here we go into Summer 2014. We are in a season of prayer for our church, our ministry and outreach, our mission teams and God’s leadership in all that we do. You can read in this newsletter about exciting opportunities for service both here at Shiloh, in our state and internationally. Let me encourage all of us to pray that all these opportunities will share Je- sus Christ. At the heart of all our ministry and mission is our worship or “worth-ship” of God our heavenly father. The Psalmist tells of the essence and impact of worship in Psalm 145:8-13, “The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works. All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord, and Your godly ones shall bless You. They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power; to make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom. Your kingdom is an ever- lasting kingdom and your dominion endures throughout all generations.” May we begin all we plan, strategize, attempt and carry out through our church’s ministry, may it all begin and grow out of worship. From The Pastor...

HERE COMES THE SON

Here we go into Summer 2014. We are in a season of prayer for our church, our ministry and outreach, our mission

teams and God’s leadership in all that we do. You can read in this newsletter about exciting opportunities for service both

here at Shiloh, in our state and internationally. Let me encourage all of us to pray that all these opportunities will share Je-

sus Christ.

At the heart of all our ministry and mission is our worship or “worth-ship” of God our heavenly father. The Psalmist

tells of the essence and impact of worship in Psalm 145:8-13, “The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great

in lovingkindness. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works. All Your works shall give thanks to You,

O Lord, and Your godly ones shall bless You. They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power; to

make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom. Your kingdom is an ever-

lasting kingdom and your dominion endures throughout all generations.”

May we begin all we plan, strategize, attempt and carry out through our church’s ministry, may it all begin and grow out

of worship. Plan and pray for a great summer.

See you Sunday.

Riding With Daddy by Tammy Breese Trader

I remember many of my days as a child spent seated

next to my dad in his red and white ’84 Ford. I would

ride along for trips to the archery range, the store, and the

occasional trip to the ice cream shop.

All the trips were accompanied by a soundtrack of

country songs.

While bouncing in the seat with the window rolled

down, I would belt out country songs (often with incor-

rect lyrics) and my father would just smile.

One song that I love to this day is “Daddy’s Hands,”

written by Holly Dunn. Every time the song came on I

would happily sing along relating the song to my father.

My father’s hands held me as I learned to walk and

held me when I cried after falling off my bike.

My father’s hands were always busy giving, loving,

building and teaching.

Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’

Daddy’s hands, were hard as steel

When I’d done wrong

Daddy’s hands, weren’t always gentle

But I’ve come to understand

There was always love in Daddy’s hands.

I now see my father’s hands and am delighted as they

welcome others into church, pass candy to children as a

means of fellowship, and as they gently turn the pages of

his Bible.

My father has grown in his faith and love and is always

willing to lend a devoted hand to those in need.

I remember Daddy’s hands,

Folded silently in prayer

And reaching out to hold me,

When I had a nightmare

You could read quite a story,

In the calluses and lines

Years of work and worry had left their mark be-

hind.

My earthly father may not be perfect, but I know that

God has provided the perfect father for me. I feel proud

when I see the calluses and scars on my Daddy’s hands—

so much done, so much accomplished.

My most special thoughts of my father today are the

ones of him holding my daughter—in his loving hands.

Happy Father’s Day to my father, your father,

and our Holy Father.

Children’s Ministry Vacation Bible School!!! It’s that wonderful time

when the whole church is buzzing with action. The dates

are June 22-26, from 5:00-8:00 pm. Our theme this year is

Wilderness Escape. The children will be Israelites in the

Wilderness with Moses. Things are different this year with

VBS. Lots of changes (for the better of course). First off,

we are feeding everybody that comes to VBS. Dinner kicks

off our VBS every night at 5:00 pm. This will be followed

by the opening and then on to music celebration. The chil-

dren will be divided into tribes (the twelve tribe of Isra-

el). We will have games, visits from missionaries, crafts in

the Israelite tents, and the best part is each child will get to

visit with Moses and see what God has done for them that

day. We then close everything out by 8:00 pm. We are

also going to have a youth class and as usual, an adult

class. This is open to everybody, so invite your friends,

neighbors, and family (and yes even invite that weird

cousin you have ’cause they will not want to miss

this). This will be a VBS to remember!

Music News Hi Everyone! I hope you are all well and enjoying the

warmer weather.

After such a beautiful Easter, the adult choir, Sounds of

Praise, is trying to get caught up in music. We are prepar-

ing for the summer months and lots of special music. The

Children's and Teen Choirs are coming to a close after a

wonderful year. The directors this year worked so hard and

were just wonderful with the kids. Thank you to: Cathy

Gebstadt and Amanda Shriver, Tiny Trebles and Teeny Ti-

ny Trebles; Jennifer Hagewood and Meredith Busic, Grace

Notes; Angela Clatterbuck, Christian Reger and LeeLynn

Crowell, Teen Choir.

For the summer, we hope you will join us for the Chil-

dren's Music Camp, Spend a While on the Nile! It is for

ages 7-18 and will take place at Shiloh from July 17-27,

with rehearsals each day from 9-12 (including Satur-

day!) We will perform the musical on Sunday morning,

July 27th. We hope to have lots of kids participate and en-

joy this program! The sign up sheet is outside of the church

office on the bulletin board.

I am always looking for singers, instrumentalists and

volunteers to help with our music ministry. Please contact

me to get involved!

Youth Update

Youth Group Summer Schedule

Wednesdays @ 6:30p—starting June 4th

Starting June 4th through August 20th Youth Group

will meet on Wednesdays at 6:30p. With family vaca-

tions, summer activities, and student jobs heating up

(pun intended) we want to offer a time that will accom-

modate summer schedules. Hopefully, this offers a way

to stay connected and grow as a group while experienc-

ing the special time of summer. We will continue the

same format and focus, with our discussions centered on

how to live out our faith. Please check the church calen-

dar for all the summer church activities. Youth focused

Sunday Bible Study

I recently had the opportunity to interview some of our 3rd

– 6th graders regarding Bible Study and what they had to

say about some of their favorites on Sunday mornings.

Q: How many of you will be graduating to youth in the

fall?

A: 2 of us that are here.

Q: Are you looking forward to moving up to youth?

A: YES!!

Q: Why?

A: We will have a new classroom and new people. We

will also be reunited with other friends in the same class.

And…HOT CHOCOLATE!!

Q: What are some of your favorite activities in Bible

Study?

A: Praying, learning about the Bible, the Bible lessons,

hanging out with friends, fellowship, learning about God,

taking turns writing on the board, and CANDY BARS!

Q: How about your teachers?

A: Mr. Rafe is FUNNY!

A: Mr. Richard puts up with me!

A: They are AWESOME!

If you’d like to find out more about these awesome teach-

ers that give out candy and hot chocolate all while study-

ing God’s Word, then check out our Sunday morning Bible

Study classes. We’d love to have you join in the fun of a

small group!
