Message from Mrs Wakefield – New Classroom Teacher Position A merit selection panel was established to appoint a new classroom teacher for 2015. Tomorrow is the job application cutoff date. The panel will meet and short list applicants and then interview for the position. I hope to be able to announce the new staff member before the end of the school year. Assistant Principal Position Mrs Alison Clifton applied for and was successful in obtaining the position of Assistant Principal at Chatham Public School starting in 2015. Although we are all sad to lose such a wonderful executive, it is good for Mrs Clifton as she needs to be close to home and not travel every day or rent weekly in Gloucester. I would like to wish Mrs Clifton all the very best. Chatham Public School are very lucky to gain such a special lady. We will most likely start 2015 with a relieving Assistant Principal while one is appointed during Term 1. Hunter Primary School Sports Association Awards Many congratulations to Lleyton Richards who has been awarded a Sports Award for Tennis at the 2014 Hunter Primary Schools Sports Association Sports Awards Presentation. The award will be presented in Newcastle on Wednesday 10th December. Congratulations Lleyton and well done. The staff and students of our school are very proud of what you have achieved. PCYC BLUE LIGHT OPERATION GOLD COAST 2015 The Gloucester Blue light would like to offer students at our school the opportunity to travel with them to the Gold Coast on a 6 day adventure. The trip is being offered to students aged between 10-18 years of age (year turning in 2015). Cost for the trip is $400 per person. Students and parents will be offered the opportunity to pay for this trip via an 8 month payment plan. The 2015 Gold Coast Trip will include: Transport, accommodation, meals, Movie World, White Water World/Dreamworld, Australia Zoo, Outback Spectacular and possibly one other daytime activity. To be eligible to attend, students need to submit an expression of interest to Gloucester Blue Light, Gloucester Police Station, 8 Church Street, Gloucester. 2422. Application for this trip will close on 31st December 2014. Successful students will have the opportunity to pay for the Gold Coast trip in a number of ways. Nomination forms are available from the admin office. Leanne Wakefield Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students, teachers, coaches and parents who have been involved with the program for approximately the last eight years. It has been a real success and has allowed many students to access sporting activities that they wouldn’t have been able to do. More information on the Sporting Schools initiative will come early next year. I hope you will join the new program in 2015. We are very excited about it! Melissa Seale and Eve Green (Coordinators)

Stage 1 Home Reading texts Book Covering Thank you to those parents, grandparents and friends who have volunteered to cover our home reading texts. I have placed the texts in the library and they are ready to be covered. If you have already sent in a slip to say to you are able to help at a certain time, please present to the front office to sign in as a visitor, then make your way to the library. If you haven’t handed in a slip and would still like to volunteer to help, please just call into our office when you have spare time. Thank you in advance. Amy Schafer Assistant Principal Year 6 Dancing Year 6 students have begun their dancing lessons in the lead up to their Year 6 Farewell later this term. Not only have they started with great maturity and respect in dancing with a partner, but they are really quite a talented bunch! They are also having lots of fun and Mrs Green and I are already hearing, “Can we dance today?” We are once again supported by the wonderful Mrs Bev Murray, who continues to volunteer her time to come back to teach the students some special skills in dancing and to whom we are very grateful. We look forward to showing off our moves on the big night! Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

Public Speaking Success Last Wednesday two of our students travelled over to Tuncurry to represent our school in the District Public Speaking Competition. It was Emily Kearney’s first experience at this level of competition in the Year Three section. Emily obviously handled herself very well since she was awarded a Highly Commended certificate. Her impromptu topic was ‘My Favourite Day of the Week’ and Emily spoke about Saturday being her favourite day. Congratulations Emily! It was Cameron Dunlop’s fourth and final tilt at the title of champion speaker, having previously won on three occasions. Could he make it a clean sweep and win the year six title? Not quite, but he must have been very close since he was also awarded a Highly Commended certificate. Cameron’s impromptu topic was ‘The Most Influential Person in my Life’ and he spoke about his friends. Congratulations Cameron! You have been a great representative for our school each year and I hope you continue with your public speaking in high school. Thank you to the parents for supporting your children in this endeavour. Kaye Leighton Public Speaking Co-ordinator. Selective High School applications closed A reminder that the Selective High School application for Year 7 in 2016 (current Year 5 students) closed last Monday. Thank you. Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

Orientation Day / Primary to High Transition Program next week

A reminder is given to all Year 6 students and their parents/carers that the program for the PtoH transition will be a full day event next Wednesday 3rd December. Students will make their own way to and from Gloucester High School either by normal bus transport or other arrangements organised by their parents. Please ensure your child attends this important orientation day as it allows them to form vital relationships with their peer leaders and key GHS staff members. Students should wear full GPS sports uniform, enclosed sports shoes and school hat, bring recess or money for recess, and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. A BBQ lunch will be provided. Should you require further information, please contact me at school on 65581303. Students not attending GHS in 2015 should attend Gloucester Public School as normal. Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

Year 6 Auction – Buy a Year 6 Student! Yes, it’s that time again! Ever wanted to buy your very own Year 6 student? Imagine owning one! You could finally boss them around as you liked...... get them to carry your things around..... clean out your tote tray or classroom...... maybe even get them to do your school work! Well, this opportunity doesn’t come around very often. It’s time to get together with your classmates, teachers, best friends and buddies, to try to snatch one of these Year 6 students at the upcoming Year 6 Auction on Thursday 4th December (next week). Bring a couple of dollars and see if you can bid successfully for the right to ‘own’ a Year 6 student for a few hours and show them who’s really the boss! Year 6 students will come to your classroom on Monday 8th December for a few hours to do as you command. All money raised goes to the Year 6 gift to the school. Be part of the fun! Mr Maggs and the Year 6 Fundraising Committee

Year 6 Farewell Just a reminder, that next Monday, 1st December (3:15pm) is our final meeting for Year 5 parents organising the Year 6 farewell. We are looking forward to finalising details and completing preparations. We would love to see you there. Susie McLeod and Eve Green Stage 3 – Science Stage 3 has just begun their final science unit for the year, Sinking, Sailing and Soaring. As part of this unit we will be designing and building kites. This will take place at school. We have spoken to the students about bringing in any materials they have around the house or in the shed that could be useful for this project, including fishing line, string, plastic and fabric. Please do not go out and purchase materials. We are hopeful of sourcing enough materials through our school and local community. Many thanks for your ongoing support. Stage 3 Teachers Sports Trophies Recall As we approach the end of the year and our presentation evening, I ask all students who have a champion’s trophy for swimming or athletics at home to return these to me at school as soon as possible. Many thanks. Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

MILKSHAKE DAY Thursday, 11th December

We are having a "Milkshake Day" on Thursday, 11th December at recess. Stay tuned for more details in next week's newsletter. For all of the canteen helpers - can you let me know if your usual days are still ok for Term 1 next year so I can get a roster out in the next couple of weeks? Also, if anyone is interested in helping we'd love to hear from you. Helpers are always needed and much appreciated.
