GLS STARTER WEEKEND

Fifty students from eight countries (China, Italy, Mexico, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain and Switzerland)

took part in the GLS Starter Weekend in September 2016. The Starter Weekend is an orientation weekend that

welcomes students to Germany before they begin their exchange studies at a German high school.

The program consisted of workshops,

sightseeing and activities to get to know each

other. Every student received a GLS t-shirt and a

GLS bracelet to show our connection as a group.

The weekend was kicked off with a welcome drink at beautiful hotel Oderberger on the GLS campus.

The workshops taught students about life in a host family and studies at a German high school.

One of the most exciting moments of the weekend was the first meeting with the host families. All

families were invited for a barbecue at the GLS Campus and, after the barbecue, the students went to

their new homes together with their families.

Some students travelled onward to

boarding schools after the Starter

Weekend. These students will be both

studying and staying at their high

schools. They were taken to their

school by GLS transfer.

Some students made their way to their final

destinations in other cities in Germany:

Bayreuth, Koblenz, Nürnberg and Minden.

They travelled by train and were met by their

local GLS coordinators upon arrival.
