TRANSCRIPT
Google has extended its free SMS chat service to India,
whereby users can send text messages to mobile phones via
Gmail Chat.
The SMS service is available in India and 51 other countries in
Asia, Africa and North America.
This feature was activated for Indian users on 10 October and
is available for regular Gmail users as well as those on Google
Apps.
Google first introducing the G-Mail sms in the country Africa.
Gmail recently introduced their SMS chat feature, using
which users can directly send SMS to their GMail contacts
directly on their phone. This feature is not same as free SMS
sites like way2sms.com and others. These free SMS sites only
allows customers to send SMS to their contacts but GMail
SMS chat allows customers to get a reply from their contacts
as well.
First of all sign into your GMail account.
From Gmail, click on Settings, and go to the Labs tab.
Scroll down until you see “Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat” and select Enable.
Also enable the “SMS in Chat gadget” and then Save Changes.
Now go to the Chat Box and Search for your Friend whom you wish to SMS
through Gmail chat.
Now a pop-up window will appear on your screen asking the country and mobile
number of your friend. Now enter your friend’s mobile number and save it.
Now one chat window will come up and you’re initially 50 SMS credits are
assigned. As you send one SMS credit will go down by one. Type out your
message and hit enter.
And within 5 to 10 seconds your friend will receive your SMS from a number
which is assigned with your GMail account. If your friend replies to your SMS on
the number from where he received SMS, that SMS will appear into your chat box.
Just like a normal chat your SMS conversion will be stored in chat history.
In point of view of Spamming, GMail have assigned credits of
50 to each customer. As he sends one SMS credit will decrease
by one.
As for every sent SMS credit goes down by one, same as that
for every SMS you receive on GMail chat your credit will
increase by 5 but will exceed 50 credits.
If at some stage your credit goes to Zero, Google will add one
credit to your account in next 24 hours.
If you receive an unwanted SMS message from Gmail Chat, you
can block future messages from the sender. Just reply to the
message with the word 'BLOCK'.
If you change your mind about that sender, you can send a
message with the phrase 'UNBLOCK' to the phone number from
which the message was sent (the SMS messages sent from Gmail
Chat have their own number associated with the sender's email
account).
The Google’s SMS chat service is likely to be having
the impact on free SMS sites like fullonsms.com,
way2sms.com, etc. as for the reason of one way
communication and late delivery services. These sites are
also not able to send the SMS to those customers those who
have DND(Do Not Disturb)activated on their mobile
numbers.
